A Breakdown of IDP Rankings (Sack Heavy)

This article is intended to build on the overall IDP rankings that were featured in the 2013 FakePigskin Draft Guide, which can be had for FREE by simply signing up to our weekly newsletter email on the homepage. I’ll list my top 50 at Defensive Linemen, Linebackers and Defensive Backs, showing sub-positions where necessary. These rankings are based on sack heavy scoring, a description of which can be found in my  Breaking Down an IDP Scoring System article.

Top-10 2013 Running Back Handcuffs To Own

I came across an article on BleacherReport.com very similar to this. I read the article, and saw the rankings.

Safe to say I did not agree completely with the rankings or the names.

As you’ve probably come to realize, I make bold predictions and don’t shy away from the controversy.

Of course, the key with handcuffs is well, not particularly HOPING the lead back gets hurt, because nobody wishes harm among anyone (unless they’re in-laws, sometimes), the lead back is demoted and/or struggles.

Another thing, most of the guys, handcuffs/back-ups or not, receive my signature phrase of #HeSucks.

So check this out, see what y’all think! Continue reading

My 2013 Fantasy Top 10 Part Four: Tight Ends

Tight Ends are placed in three separate rankings, Gronk, Graham, and everyone else.  Who is #1? Which site has Gronk first? Which site has Graham first?

If you are lucky enough to get one of those two guys you have no issues at the tight end spot.  But if you don’t land one all is not lost.  Those two are going in the late 1st to early 2nd rounds.*  If you are taking them that early there is a likely chance you are not as deep at another position, most likely running back.  For you guys that resist temptation and hold your ground there are still some great values out there for your TE spot, and you should be much stronger at atleast one of the other positions than someone who took Gronk or Graham.  Read along and draft accordingly as my Fantasy Top 10′s concludes with the Tight End position. Head to Head: Two AJ Jenkins 2013 Projections

From Richard Janvrin(@RichardJanvrin);

According to reports, San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree has torn his Achilles tendon during OTA’s a few weeks ago. He has had surgery and is expected to miss 6 months.  This is a huge blow to not only the 49ers, but to Fantasy nerds, too. This affects Crabtree’s fantasy prospects as well as Colin Kaepernick, Anquan Boldin and Mr. AJ Jenkins.

Who the heck is AJ Jenkins? Continue reading

My 2013 Fantasy Football Top 10: Part Three – Wide Receivers

Wide receiver is the deepest group in fantasy football.  While the top five in standard scoring last year (Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, Dez Bryant, A.J. Green and Demaryius Thomas) were a dominant group, there was less than 85 total point difference between the #6 scoring WR (Vincent Jackson) and the #40 scoring WR (Percy Harvin).  Per game that is a decent sized gap, but there is value to be had at other positions earlier in the draft if you happen to miss out on any of mine (or your) top-10 overall guys.  Now if you play in a PPR league, you obviously plan your draft differently; more value to receivers in general and some other names who catch a large quantity of short passes may go higher up your draft board.  For my series of top 10s, I focus on standard scoring rankings for redraft purposes, as that is the most popular format.  If you play in dynasty leagues, head over to www.dynastyleaguefootball.com for all your dynasty rankings. Enjoy my top 10 wide receivers and as always, leave us your input in the comments section! Elite QB, Late Round Grab: Joe Flacco a Fantasy Steal

We know the names. Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Matthew Stafford, Cam Newton, blah, blah, blah.

Yes, they are all great QBs, but they’ll cost you an early draft selection.

My M.O. every draft is to wait on a QB and build up your RB/WR depth.

With that said, if you wait for a QB, who’s one QB who could end up being sneaky good in 2013? Maybe like, oh I don’t know, top-10, top-12 caliber?

My 2013 Fantasy Football Top 10 Part Two: Running Backs

Oh the running back.  Seasons ride on this position, good or bad.  Grab one with a top-5 pick and you could ride him to the championship (Arian Foster).  Steal an injured stud in a later round and watch the your questionable roster blossom (Adrian Peterson).  Sustain an injury during training camp and it could derail your whole season (Ryan Mathews).  Get lucky with a late round sleeper in a dynasty league and you may be set for years (Alfred Morris).  Pick up a mid-season waiver wire grab and it could help your playoff push (Bryce Brown).

Running Backs hold a special place in my fantasy football heart.  I love to stock up on them, as many as my leagues allow.  With the success of last year’s rookie class of backs there may be some surprises in my list.  This is suddenly a deep position.  There are even a few backups out there who in my opinion will have fantasy relevancy next year as solid flex and bye week plays.  But we will save those guys for a future article.  For now?  Here are my Top-10 fantasy running backs for the 2013 season.  And remember to leave me some feedback, good or bad, in the comments section at the end of this article.

1. Adrian Peterson: Last offseason “All Day” was a fantasy draft afterthought.  Coming off major knee surgery the rumors were swirling that he may miss up to the first six games of the season.  His ADP dropped dramatically, into the high 20′s.  In my own 16 team league he lasted until late in the 2nd round until he was scooped up.  AP said he would prove the doubters wrong, that he would play week one.  Prove them wrong he did.  Peterson had one of the greatest seasons for a running back in the history of the NFL, torching the league for 2,097 yards rushing and another 217 receiving, averaging 6.0 YPC and a disgusting 144.7 yards from scrimmage per game.  He proved he is still the best back in the NFL and hands down #1 RB for fantasy football in 2013.

2. CJ Spiller:  Clifford Spiller, Jr. is my darkhorse for next season.  If you keep up with us here at www.fakepigskin.com you know I already wrote about him, including what I think he is going to put up next year.  If you are in a dynasty league go get him now, before his owner becomes aware of what numerous fantasy football writers like myself are saying and predicting for CJ.

3. Doug Martin:  Doug “Stop Calling me Muscle Hamster” Martin did not burst onto the scene last season after being a 1st round pick.  He clearly beat out the plodding, no acceleration, and fumble-prone Legarrette Blount in preseason for the starting job in Tampa but was pretty average his first few games.  In Week 7 something clicked.  He rushed for 135 yards and caught another 79 yards worth of passes for 2 TDs that game.  The next game was even better, as Martin went off for 251 yards and 4 TDs on the ground, completely dismantling the Oakland Raiders defense.  Martin went on to post 3 more 100-yard games on the season and also proved himself as a viable pass catcher, totalling 1,926 yards from scrimmage as a rookie despite the Bucs playing from behind alot.  I fully expect the same production this season and wouldn’t be surprised to see him improve on this ranking if he can get steady play from his quarterback.

My 2013 Fantasy Football Top 10 Part One: Quarterbacks

February: The air is cool. The NFL season has just ended.  Spring is on the horizon. Pitchers and Catchers have reported. Time for… fantasy football rankings? That’s right, it’s never too early to start preparing for next season! Do you want to win or just play along for the first seven weeks then stop setting your lineup?

This is not the first rankings article out there, a wonderful Top 100 has already been put out by JJ Zachariason at lateroundqb.com (@lateroundqb). The guys at DLF (dynastyleaguefootball.com @DLFootball) have dynasty rankings for each position, including IDP and rookies, updated all the time! This is just my personal opinion of the top 10 at each position for the 2013 season in regards to Standard Scoring at a (like the title says) way too early point in the offseason. Enjoy or bash accordingly in the comments section!

1.  Aaron Rodgers: This guy is a stud, plain and simple.  Since taking over the starting job in Green Bay he has never finished outside of the top-5 in fantasy scoring in any year.  He finished exactly two points behind Drew Brees in total points scored despite numerous injuries to his wide receivers, an absolutely pathetic offensive line and the sudden forgetfulness of how to catch the ball by Jermichael Finley.  Feel free to make him the first QB drafted next year in any redraft league.

2.  Drew Brees: Funny how a 21.6 ppg average and fantasy football’s overall scoring leader’s 2012 season was widely viewed as disappointing.  Sure, the New Orleans Saints’ season in general was disappointing, but Brees?  He was his phenomenal self.  5,177 yards and 43 TD passes is not disappointing, it’s a fantasy footballer’s dream.  Expect the same huge offensive output from Brees next year as he gets Sean Payton back.
