Week 10 Injury Roundup

Week 10 was very kind to fantasy football players in terms of injuries. Following weeks where we’ve seen player after player go down with serious injuries, it was a nice change of pace. That being said, there were a guys that were dinged up on the Sunday gridiron. Here’s a quick update on them:

  • The number one player in fantasy football Peyton Manning will undergo an MRI on Monday. While the Broncos sealed the victory with Manning connecting with Demaryius Thomas, it came at a cost. Manning was taken down by Chargers Corey Liuget and was seen with a noticeable limp. After the game Manning admitted that he was quite sore, but we’ll have to wait to see what the results of the MRI show. The only way that teams will be able to beat the Broncos is if they get hits on the 37-year old future Hall of Fame, and it’s been taking a toll. We’ll keep you updated on the results of his MRI.
  • Speaking of ageless wonders, Tony Gonzalez injured his left toe and was limping around the Falcons locker room after the loss to Seattle. While they may be some of the smallest parts of the body, toe injuries are tough to overcome. That being said, Gonzalez is one of the toughest players in the game, so he may try and gut it out, especially considering this may be the last season of his career. He’s no Jimmy Graham at this point of his career, so he may not play well while hurt, but we’ll continue to monitor his status.
  • While Bears QB Jay Cutler started the game against the Lions, a sprained ankle kept him from finishing it. He told reporters that he was feeling quite limited in terms of his mobility so he couldn’t continue on. With backup QB Josh McCown playing very well, the Bears will probably take it very slow with their baby-faced QB.

Quick hits: 49er TE Vernon Davis has been diagnosed with a concussion…Seneca Wallace lasted one quarter before pulling his groin. He likely won’t be healthy enough to play next week…Stevie Johnson is already unsure of his Week 11 unavailability, a poor sign…Ben Tate played hurt but looked much better than he did last week. It seems he came out unscathed…CJ Spiller‘s high ankle sprain is going to be a problem for the next few weeks…Terrelle Pryor has a sprained MCL…Jake Locker‘s season may be done. It’s too bad for a guy who was really making strides and leading a fantasy-relevant offense…Andre Brown is officially back…Roddy White played the majority of the snaps, so at least it isn’t his health that’s holding him back now…

Week 10 Injury Report

Good evening everyone, welcome to the 10th edition of the weekly injury roundup. Here are the notable injuries that you should be aware of for this upcoming week.

Aaron Rodgers has already been ruled out for week 10. Initial reports have him missing from 4-6 weeks. By no means should you drop him, but the earliest he’ll be back is week 13. If you are fighting to get into the playoffs, I’d see what player I could get in return for him. If you’re locked into the playoffs, throw an offer out there for ARod. The Packers find themselves neck and neck in their division for a playoff spot this season, so they’re going to need Rodgers back ASAP. Oh by the way, please don’t pick up Seneca Wallace. I almost didn’t even want to bold his name right there that’s how much I dislike him for fantasy/real football.

It looks as if rookie QB EJ Manuel will return tomorrow. He was terrific before getting hurt against Cleveland that fateful night where both he and Brian Hoyer went down. I have a tough time trusting him this week in any leagues other than deep ones or 2-QB leagues.

After missing a few days of practice this week, Indianapolis RB Trent Richardson is officially listed as Questionable though he did practice Friday. It looks like he’s going to play, but I have a hard time trusting a running back averaging less than 3YPC and losing touches to Donald Brown. I’d keep him on your bench until he shows any signs of life…

Atlanta WR Roddy White is officially questionable but has already told everyone that he’s going to play Sunday. It’s going to be an entertaining re-match of the teams that met in the playoffs last year, especially with what is developing between Roddy and punk DB Richard Sherman. Seattle’s defense hasn’t been anything close to what it was like to start the season, especially on the road. With that said, White’s burned fantasy owners way too many times with flare ups of his injuries, so I’d be disinclined to start him.

Quick hits: Cecil Shorts and MJD are probable. I’d play Shorts, but keep an uninspiring MJD on your bench…Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller will both play…With Darren McFadden out for another week, Rashard Jennings will get the start…Terrelle Pryor practiced in full on Friday and will play…Victor Cruz had a sore neck but practiced both Thursday and Friday so he’ll suit up Sunday…Andre Brown was activated off the IR but he’s going to be eased back into things and will not even start with Peyton Hillis being quite useful for the Giants the last few weeks…Zac Stacy will play Sunday, so he should be in all fantasy lineups…Gio Bernard is questionable, and at this time is looking iffy to play. Check in Sunday morning to see his exact status…Reggie Bush and Jay Cutler will both play Sunday in a pivotal divisional game…Mario Manningham will make his season debut tomorrow for the 49ers...Julius Thomas called himself a game time decision, make sure you have a back-up TE ready…Doug Martin has been placed on the IR, ending his season…

Week 8 Injury Round-Up

Sunday is almost here and that means it’s time to check in those NFL injuries that will impact your fantasy team the most. Last week was a nightmare for fantasy owners everywhere, with players from Jay Cutler to Doug Martin to Reggie Wayne all going down with significant injuries. That being said, let’s dive into the latest injury updates.

Cecil Shorts is set to play Sunday in London against the 49ers, plug him in your lineup if you believe he’s gonna put up some stats during garbage time…Blaine Gabbert is healthy, but it doesn’t matter: Chad Henne will get the start…Dwayne Bowe aggravated his groin injury Thursday, and missed practice again Friday. Even if he does play, a limited Bowe against Joe Haden is bench worthy if he isn’t glued there already…Danny Amendola passed all concussion tests, and while he is listed as Questionable, I fully expect him to play…Jimmy Graham is a true game-time decision, so we won’t know how his foot feels until right before their 1PM EST game, if he plays then I’d be hard pressed benching him even if he’s not 100%…CJ Spiller is doubtful due to a bum ankle, but Fred Jackson will be good to go…DeMarco Murray is expected to play Sunday as well as Calvin Johnson and Dez Bryant. If Murray goes, he’s likely to get the majority of the work…Brandon Jacobs is going to miss Sunday’s game, which gives Peyton Hillis his first start since 2011…Mike Vick will start for the Eagles with Nick Foles out with a concussion…Roddy White is already deemed out but Steven Jackson will play…Rashard Mendenhall is doubtful which means Andre Ellington will get the start for the Cardinals…Percy Harvin will NOT make his 2013 debut for the Seahawks in week 8…

Week 7 Injury Round Up

Welcome back to my weekly Injury Round Up. If you want the absolute latest updates, follow me on Twitter. For now, here’s the latest injury updates for the guys that matter most for Week 7.

  • The week that you’ve all been waiting for is finally here ladies and gentlemen: Rob Gronkowski is back. He’s been medically cleared to play this upcoming Sunday against the Jets, and has reportedly looked great in practice. Despite this, I don’t think starting Gronk this week is a complete slam dunk. I tend to take anything I hear out of the Patriot organization with a grain of salt, meaning I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s on a snap count. Would you be that surprised if he played 20-30 snaps? The dude hasn’t played an NFL game in almost a whole year, and while I don’t doubt his ability to play well, if you have another option that’s done well thus far (like a Jordan Cameron, Heath Miller, etc.), I would lean to having a “wait-and-see” approach with Gronk, and start him in full confidence next week.
  • First DMC, and now Demarco Murray. The question to start this season was not if they’d get hurt, but when. Murray hurt his knee last week against the Redskins and is doubtful for at least this week, perhaps more. While Joseph Randle didn’t look great last year, he did punch in a short TD, and will likely lift a heavy load with the other back-up RB Lance Dunbar out this Sunday as well. Randle is a middle to low-end flex play this week.
  • A new week but nothing new from Falcons camp: Steven Jackson is gonna miss Week 7 and Roddy White is still hurt. While White should have sat games out previously to heal up, better late than never. I really did think that this week would be his coming out party, but then he injured his hamstring two Sundays ago. It’s looking like a lot season for Roddy and the Falcons.
  • In case you missed it, Randall Cobb was placed on IR/designated to return. At the earliest, he’ll be back Week 15, but even then he’s not likely to be thrown into the fire as the Packers would like to have him 100% healthy for the playoffs. He’s droppable at this point. James Jones will also probably miss this week’s match up against the Browns, so rookie WR Jarrett Boykin is a name to know. He’s worth at least a stash.

  • Quick hits: Case Keenum is making his NFL debut for the Texans against the NFL’s number 1 defense because of injuries to Schaub and because TJ Yates sucks. That’ll turn out well…Thad Lewis‘s foot is good enough for him to play for the Bills…Mike Vick is sitting out another week due to a sore hamstring. If Foles continues to play well, it won’t matter how healthy Vick is…Chad Henne will start for the Jaguars this week with Blaine Gabbert being limited by his hamstring, Blackmon owners rejoice…Adrian Peterson was a surprise add to the Viking’s injury report Friday, as he took the day off due to a “hamstring” problem. It’s something to keep an eye on, but I wouldn’t be too concerned…Joique Bell (ribs) is very iffy this week, keep him on your bench…Cecil Shorts will be a game time decision Sunday. Even if he plays, I wouldn’t start him, he might not play the whole game…Danny Amendola is out with a concussion…If you still have Eddie Royal on your roster due to his fast start, feel free to drop him. He’ll miss this week’s game against the Jaguars because of a toe injury, but he’s already fallen behind the Chargers’ stand out young WRs…

Week 5 Injury Round Up

Sunday is almost among us, and with a week full of byes, players’ injury statuses are even more important to address. Without further ado, here’s everything you need to know when it comes to Week 5 injuries.

  • NE RB Stevan Ridley has already been ruled OUT for Sunday’s matchup against the Bengals. Ridley was a surprising addition to the injury report earlier in the week, and his thigh injury is enough to force him to miss this week. Add this news to Brandon Bolden being QUESTIONABLE for Sunday’s game, and LeGarratte Blount enters the low RB2/FLEX conversation. While Cincinnatti’s defense is no slouch, the Patriots have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL, and they should make holes that even Blount can rumble through.
  • Personally, I don’t expect Rob Gronkowski to play. He’s almost there, but there’s really no rush for him to come back with the Patriots 4-0. He’s officially listed as QUESITONABLE, but don’t expect him to be active. His teammate Danny Amendola however is tentatively expected to play. I would only start him in the deepest of leagues.
  • It’s been 4 weeks and ATL WR Roddy White has 84 receiving yards on the season. 84. I still don’t understand why White plays: he’s not helping his team and he’s not allowing himself to recover fully. While he showed bursts of being back last week against New England, he still had problems with his cuts. He did look a lot better than he has all season, and there have been reports that he suffered a “set back,” which I don’t believe because 1. he’s been limited in practice all season and 2. he looked the same the entire game. That being said, I wouldn’t play him until after his week 6 bye. “Hot Roddy” should be parked on all benches until then.
  • Miles Austin is not expected to play Sunday, so Terrance Williams will likely need to pick up the slack. While Williams did fumble at a crucial time last week against the Chargers, the Cowboys have no choice but to throw him back out there. I don’t see Williams as having much value though as he goes up against a tough Denver defense.
  • It’s only been 4 weeks and Darren McFadden is already going to miss a game. What seemed like a relatively minor injury has flared up for DMC, so back-up Rashard Jennings is going to carry the load for the Raiders Sunday night. FB  Marcel Reece will also contribute in the run game, but the coaching staff has verbally committed to making Jennings the workhorse, if that gives you any confidence…Jennings struggled as the starter last year in Jacksonville, though he didn’t have a dynamic QB like Terrelle Pryor who can open up running lanes for him. Speaking of Pryor, he practiced all this week (concussion) and should be good to go Sunday night. He’s a borderline QB1.
  • Ravens RB Ray Rice should be 100% this week. He had a strained hip flexor and was barely used in the offense last week (mostly due to the Ravens playing from behind) and the Ravens have already emphasized that they need to utilize their best offensive weapon more. Rice is again an RB1 this week against the Dolphins who just got burned last week by Darren Sproles.

QUICK HITS: Packers RB James Starks has already been ruled out for Week 5. Look for the Packers to rely on the two rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin…Chargers WR Malcom Floyd is done for the season…Neither Reggie Bush nor Larry Fitzgerald were on the injury report this week for the first time since Week 1…Fitzgerald’s teammate Rashard Mendenhall is also not on the injury list anymore…Steven Jackson is still targeting a Week 7 return after the Falcons’ bye…Julio Jones is limited in practice every day, but is not in any danger of missing anytime…Brandon Marshall missed Wednesday and Thursday due to a foot injury but is officially listed as PROBABLE…Calvin Johnson showed up as QUESTIONABLE on the Lions’ injury report, but there is nothing that makes me think he’ll be hindered, he will play…Jermichael Finley is PROBABLE for Sunday’s game in a favorable matchup against the Bears…Ahmad Bradshaw hurt his neck after gashing the 49ers two weeks ago, but is now looking at a potential season ending neck surgery…Cecil Shorts is not 100%, but is going to play, keep your expectations in check…The Saints RB Mark Ingram and WR Lance Moore will not play…Ryan Mathews was a late week addition to the injury report, stay tuned as late additions are not a good sign…Vernon Davis is QUESTIONABLE for Sunday night’s game against Houston, but being on 10 days rest, he should play…Jake Locker will miss a few weeks with an injured groin…2013 sensation Brian Hoyer is unfortunately done for the season with a torn ACL, Brandon Weeden has new life…EJ Manuel is also out 6-8 weeks, rookie FA Jeff Tuel will get the starts in Buffalo…Both Marlon Brown and Jacoby Jones are QUESTIONABLE for Sunday’s game, if both play then Jones will be the starter…

49ers @ Rams: Injury Update

Week 4 is about to begin, but before it does, I’m going to update you on the relevant fantasy football injuries for the upcoming Thursday night showdown between divisional rivals. Who is sitting and who is starting tonight? Stay tuned to find out.

49ers

Vernon Davis, TE: As of this moment, Vernon IS ACTIVE. Thigh injuries are tough to deal with however. If he aggravates it, he’ll likely leave the game early (see Larry Fitzgerald Week 2). I do believe that the upside with Vernon is large enough to warrant starting him, even if his thigh acts up on him.

Kyle Williams, WR: Williams was seen warming up prior to the game, and looks set to go tonight. He doesn’t hold very much fantasy value, but for those in super deep leagues starting many WRs, he’s worth a flier.

DEFENSE: Aldon Smith is definitely out while I don’t expect MLB Patrick Willis to play tonight. He hurt his groin on Sunday, and will likely benefit from sitting this week and getting ready for the following week.

Rams:

Daryl Richardson, RB: Richardson practiced in full yesterday and is good to go. It’ll be interesting to see the carry split between Richardson and Isaiah Pead because we haven’t see how they will split the work when both are 100% (healthy/not-suspended). I wouldn’t start Richardson this week.

Chris Givens, WR: Givens will play tonight as well. He had a minor knee issue that has been worked out, and is good to go. Givens is a high upside WR3/4 this week.

Week 2 Injury Round Up

With week one in the books, it’s now time to look forward to the second week of the NFL. There were a slew of injuries that occurred this past week, and I’m here to break down the fantasy-relevant ones, and to give you a prognosis of what they mean to you and your fantasy team.

QB:

Tony Romo, DAL
Romo went down on Sunday night after getting crunched between two Giants (literally) although he did return for the 2nd half of the game. He was able to lead the Cowboys to victory, though at times it did seem like he was wincing when he threw. The Cowboys said that it was nothing more than him getting the wind knocked out of him, and for a few moments, the entire Cowboys nation was holding their breaths as well. He should be good to go this upcoming week, as he practiced Wednesday in full pads. In terms of his fantasy outlook, he goes into Kansas City up against an underrated defense. I don’t like him this week because of his matchup, not because of any lingering injury.

Da’Rel Scott Injured in Practice

What in the….

According to Art Stapleton, beat writer for the New York Giants, RB Da’Rel Scott has suffered an apparent knee injury at practice today, but the severity is undisclosed.

The Giants recently signed Brandon Jacobs back, leaving their stable of backs with the likes of David Wilson, Michael Cox, the injured Scott and now, Brandon Jacobs.

Da’Rel Scott is a fairly impressive talent, but if he is unable to go, the Giants might be forced to slide Wilson back in to the lineup with Jacobs getting potential goal-line work.

If you’re a David Wilson owner, consider this good news.

Brandon Jacobs is worth an add in 12-teamers.
