Here we are heading into week 6. I’m as surprised as you are the Colts beat the Seahawks and that the Jets won on the road against Atlanta on Monday night. It really grinds my gears to know the Jets are 3-2, tied with my Miami Dolphins… just when you thought the universe had aligned a horrifically disastrous season for Gang Green, we get a curve ball. Surprises all over the place this past week.

What am I rambling about. You all know what happened in week 5, and you no doubt don’t want to hear any of my Phin Fan melodrama. Moving forward.  Let’s delve into some Pigskin Preguntas to start this week off right.

Jesse Kirkwood @Jessekirkwood: “Do you think Peyton would have been worth a #1 overall ff pick? Or would AP still have been better value?”

Jesse, hindsight is always 20/20. Peyton has started hot and hasn’t slowed down yet. While he may very well go on to set historic records in both real life and fantasy, I tend to hold true to the philosophy that the cliff for elite RBs is much steeper than that of QB’s. In most leagues you start 2-3 RBs making it that much more important that you stockpile as many top backs as possible early in your drafts. QB’s tend to be the highest scoring fantasy players annually but we only start 1 each week (with the exception being superflex / 2QB leagues).  I will continue to draft a RB early and often. There is always good QB value late. Even with Manning torching teams each and every week, I would still have picked Adrian Peterson.

Andrew Hernandez @Hi_imAndrew: “I have a dilemma Brees @ Patriots or Culter against the Giants?”

I see how this is a tough decision for you Andrew. I think you can play the smug faced Cutler with confidence this week. He has been playing at a top 10 level so far this season, excelling in Trestman’s offense. With Alshon Jeffrey breaking out last week in a major way, I think it softens the coverage for Brandon Marshall allowing him to run wild on the NYG secondary (if you can call what they put on the field a secondary). Brees has been great… but the Patriots have been sneaky good this year against QB’s, allowing the 7th fewest fantasy points per game as well as the 14th fewest passing yards. Play the sullen Cutler. I think you will reap fantasy gold!

Jordan Miller @JJMiller023:Josh Gordon or Le’Veon Bell in my ppr flex this week?”

Well Jordan, conventional wisdom would say that you play the guy with the greatest chance of receiving touches. If that were the case I’d recommend playing Bell, however he and the once proud Steelers are playing in NY against a run defense that is ranked 1st in scrimmage yards and 5th in overall points allowed to RB’s.  I think the savvy play here is actually Josh Gordon, against a middle of the road secondary in Detroit, I expect Norv and Chud to continue to air it out. Gordon would be my flex between these two.

Peter A @PDiMeZzZz: “Who would you say has more value the rest of the way… Ryan Broyles, Lance Moore or Aaron Dobson?”

I would have to say that Broyles presents the most value going forward in 2013. Lance Moore seems to have been passed up by Kenny Stills on the pecking order and that Saints offense runs through Sproles, Graham, and Colston. Too many mouths to feed in New Orleans. As for Dobson, I see the same thing. Gronkowski and Amendola will be coming back and then there is, Thompkins, Edelman, Boyce and Vereen to compete with for Tom Brady’s affection. Again, it’s like playing Russian roulette.

Broyles has been eased back slowly. Remember he didn’t play in preseason. Burleson is out with a broken arm. I think as the weeks go on and Broyles’ knees return to form he should easily emerge from this pack as the WR to own.

Pigskin Preguntas week 5

Welcome everyone to week 5 of Pigskin Preguntas! TM. (sorry I watched a bit of the Love Guru with Mike Myers this past week.) I will attempt to rein in my strange sense of humor.

I trust you all crushed in week 4! Can you believe 1/4 of the regular season is over? I can’t. Wow that went fast. It’s been a blast. Let’s see what we’ve got for week 5.

Dallas Moye  @Dallasmoye: “Bye week woes… need 2 RB’s. MJD, Ronnie Hillman, Brandon Jacobs, and Law Firm? Peterson on Bye.”

Wow Dallas, talk about a rough start to the bye weeks. Missing out on Peterson will be huge. I hope you have a stacked team around those RB’s as that is a rag tag bunch. I think out of the two, I would play Hillman and MJD this week. Both have moderately favorable match ups. MJD against STL and Hillman against Dallas. Neither of those DST’s are all that great against the run. These two players also have the most chance of getting work on Sunday. BJGE has been ceding time to the minivan driving (Hard Knocks reference) Gio Bernard and the G-men have actually committed to giving the ball to David Wilson… Hey it’s not Wilson’s fault the entire team has been pitifully awful now is it?

Robert Mulligan @RJMulliganJR: Jordan Cameron has passed Sell High and is now a Must Keep right?

Robert, I appreciate the question. Keep them coming all year long. Yeah. If you were wise enough to snag the former USC Trojan late in your draft you have been dancing these past few weeks. Cameron is only 12 points behind Jimmy Graham for the #1 TE spot! So far he’s been Mr. Consistency. If you’ve got him I think you stay on board that train. Unless of course someone makes an offer you can’t refuse!

Karl Safchick @Karlsafchick: “With Malcolm Floyd out, and the Chargers playing a bad Raiders secondary late on Sunday night, could this be Keenan Allen’s coming out party?”

Karl buddy, I think you may be on to something here. I tend to be hesitant of rookie WR’s in redraft, but the last few years and the start of this season have been kind to us. We’ve seen the likes of Julio, AJ Green, Robert Woods, and Deandre Hopkins have moderate success. Allen may be the next in line to join these guys. It wasn’t too long before the NFL draft that some analysts had Allen as the #1 WR on the board. Then his injury lingered and there were character concerns. The result is Allen fell all the way to the 3rd round.

Keenan has the size, skill and all of a sudden fantasy’s #3 QB throwing him the ball. Facing one of the poorest secondaries this week. I see no reason this Cal Bear doesn’t run rampant upon his first return home to the Bay!

Tom Przybylinkski @Tompryzbylinski: “Do I take Rivers vs Oakland or Rodgers vs Det this week? Help a brother out!”

Tom… this is a tough one indeed. Rivers has been lights out so far this year, and as mentioned above is #3 overall in QB scoring. But… can you really bench the discount double check king? I don’t know that I can advise that, especially coming off a bye having that extra week to prepare. The Packers are struggling and they desperately need Rodgers to show up against a division rival.  Even though Rodgers struggled against DET, I expect a huge game from him. Play Arod with confidence Tom!

Well that’s it guys. As always email me your Preguntas Asher@www.fakepigskin.com or tweet at me @realABC

Enjoy this upcoming week!

Welcome to week four’s installment of Pigskin Preguntas. I have truly enjoyed the interaction on twitter with all of you. Hopefully the answers I have shared have contributed to fantasy glory… Now let’s hit those questions.

Jeff Beran @jefeberan: “Who inherits Nate Burleson’s targets for the Lions? Is the Bronco’s RB situation going to be this frustrating all season?”

Thanks for taking the time to shoot a question my way Jeff. In response to your first question, I think the answer is simple. As long as Ryan Broyles is fully healthy and can stay that way for the rest of the year I think Burleson’s role will be ceeded to him.

I believe he is the second most talented receiver in Detroit. We should see this week against Chicago just how healthy Broyles indeed is. The talent and opportunity are there. All that matters is whether or not his knee’s hold up. If he fails to stay healthy, I would surmise that the targets would be doled out to Pettigrew, Scheffler, and to an extent Fuller, as well as increased targets for Bush and Bell.

Regarding the Bronco’s RB conundrum, I think we are looking at a full blown three headed monster here. Last week I wrote that I thought the job was Moreno’s to lose, and while I thought he may get the majority of passing downs due to his superior blocking, it has become apparent in a mere three weeks that John Fox truly hates fantasy owners!

He rotates his RB’s at whim, whether in the redzone, or goal line, “in a train or on a plane”, leaving us as owners at his mercy. All we can do is hope that we pick the right RB on any given week. It’s not a place I would want to be. If you can get value for any of them now, I would pull the trigger.

EDWARD @Edward_732: “Do I start Dan Bailey vs Chargers or Matt Prater vs Eagles?”

Edward… I don’t usually answer kicker questions, but when I do, I prefer that kicker to be playing in Denver. Ha, see what I did there. I used a beer reference. I just may be the most clever man in the world (okay I should really have stopped with the first one) I digress… Point is, the air is clear at Mile High and the Broncos score a ton of points. Prater is currently the #1 ranked kicker, and Bailey is not far behind tied for #2. You’ve got a good problem on your hands. If it was me, I’d roll with the guy who has kicked 16 extra points already this short year. At least you know his floor is probably 5 points. No goose eggs here.

Dave @Davefangs: “Good idea to buy low on Ridley for my Joique Bell (sell high?) Been using Joique as my RB2 since Sjax injury PPR Dynasty.”

We don’t usually answer dynasty questions here at Fakepigskin. There are a slew of guys over at Dynastyleaguefootball.com who would be more than happy to assist you. Try @karlsafchick is usually spot on! But since you asked so politely, I will ablidge just this once.

Dave my friend, I think this is a matter of the heart. On one side you have a highly drafted RB from a huge university, one year of fantasy greatness behind him, who plays for a NFL playoff juggernaut in the New England Patriots. On the other you have a small school, no name RB in Bell who worked his way to a prominent role on a pass first team that throws more balls than a [insert your own dirty noun] to RB’s.

Would it make your decision any easier if I told you that one of these RB’s was ranked 55th overall and the other was 6th in PPR leagues? Would you be surprised at who is who? I know I am. I was aware Bell was having a good start to the season, but hot damn.. top 6.

There’s just no way he can sustain that pace right? I mean he’d have to play for a team that is always throwing and have a major role in the offense… oh wait he does?

He’s supplanted lead foot Leshoure as the goal line back and has done just fine when Bush is healthy or dinged up (which will happen all year long). For me, and you can call me crazy or nuts or wack or whatever new adjective is floating around these days. I would take the back with the opportunity and the drive to succeed. Right now that’s Bell. But do what you love and what your gut tells you.

Darnell A Bright @DBSPORTSMANIC: “Who would you start? TY Hilton in an away game, or Roddy White at home?”

Darnell, first off I want to thank you for being such an ardent supporter of what we do here at FP. You are so vocal in your support of our site and we truly appreciate you!

Now to the question. If Roddy was fully healthy, I don’t think you have this question at all. You roll with White. But he is still dealing with his high ankle sprain and as we all know those can be tough injuries to shake.

Hilton has been an enigma to me so far this season. He is the ultimate boom or bust and it is all the coaches fault. TY is a fantastic player. He has a great quarterback throwing him the ball, and he really performs well when he is targeted. This season the problem has been that the Colts brass has prefered to target DHB. I think that has to change as Hilton is obviously the better overall talent. I would play Hilton this week against the Jags. I think White is too risky at this point.

Ultimately it comes down to what kind of risk you are comfortable with. White offers the higher floor at this point. Hilton has the higher ceiling this week.

WildByNature @AZWBN: “Who for my RB4: Darren Sproles or Bilal Powell? Already have JC, DMC and Gio. (non ppr)”

Wild, if that is your real name ( and I hope that is) I think this is actually a bit closer than it may seem. Sproles has name value, while Powell is a bit of an unknown, who has produced well and seems to be the starting RB for the Jets.

I think ultimately for me it comes down to opponents. NO is at home against a decent MIA defense who I believe will be doing their best to limit Jimmy Graham (good luck).

NYJ are on the road against a stout TEN defense that hasn’t allowed many RB’s to score via the ground. I think if it’s my team I play Sproles and know that at least he should be racking up the yards as he is heavily involved in the pass game.

That’s all folks! Thanks again for writing. Keep those Preguntas coming!!  As always you can find me @realABC on Twitter or email your questions to me at

Pigskin Preguntas Week 3

http://www.fakepigskin.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/P.I.-Pig-finish-sm-1.jpg

Pigskin Preguntas- courtesy of Greg Newbold’s book The Barnyard Night Before Christmas

http://gregnewbold.blogspot.com/2010/11/sneaky.html?m=1

Welcome back to Pigskin Preguntas. Here we are heading into week tres (that’s Espanol for three, in case you didn’t know that). I hope you are all sitting at 2-0 in every league you play in! Now on to the Preguntas!

Erik Miller @ericj2280: “How much of a downgrade is there for Gordon and Cameron if Jason Campbell starts? And… do I play Knowshon over Cameron at the flex with the nice matchup vs. Oakland?

Erik buddy, the news is even worse than JC starting at QB for the Browns this week. Not only did they trade Trich to start off week three, but also announced that third string QB Brian Hoyer will be starting this week at Minnesota. The Metrodome is never friendly to opposing QB’s and I think this time will be no different. I believe Hoyer will struggle.

I too own Josh Gordon in multiple leagues and for me this week I have him as a sit and watch. Cleveland has clearly entered the “Falter for Bridgewater” sweepstakes and I want no part of their WR’s this week. I would much rather have Gordon explode on my bench than drop 3 points on my active roster.

Cameron on the other hand seems to have entrenched himself as the integral cog of Norv Turner’s standard TE friendly offense. He should benefit from lots of checkdowns from Hoyer, has proven himself so far in this young season, and is ranked in the top 5 at his position. I think if you own him, you are playing him in week 3.

In regard to your second question I would start Moreno. He firmly established himself as the RB1 in Denver, pass protects very well (an attribute that should only become more valuable with the loss of Ryan Clady), and as you so poignantly mentioned his team is playing Oakland in Denver for the Monday night game.

Andrew Nordmeier @AndrewNordmeier: “How do you play the Saints offense that isn’t scoring many points this year?”

I understand where your coming  from. What happened to the offensive juggernaut we usually see in NO year after year? How is it that Drew Brees is outside of the top 5 after two weeks? Why is Darren Sproles outside of the top 10 at RB? Marques Colston not in the top 20 WR’s… IMPOSSIBLE. But you know what? The Saints are 2-0… and you know what? It’s only been two weeks. I believe if you have any of these guys, you keep playing them. Maybe Sean Peyton is dusting off the rust, or perhaps NO has played two tough divisional games already this year. Whatever the reason is, I am confident the ship will be righted. The offensive storm is coming.

James Garner @lostmymarbles28: “Is Bobby Rainey worth stashing? Why or why not?”

Thanks for the question James. Rainey was a very productive college RB  at Western Kentucky University. He has a chance to make a name for himself in Cleveland this week. I would say he is definitely as stash if you have the roster space. I wouldn’t go about dropping players who may start for you in order to pick up Rainey. Cleveland went out and signed Willis McGahee in addition to rostering Rainey and Ogbonaya. I think Rainey could have value this week as he should receive a few carries. I also like what he brings to the table with his 4.42 speed. However, in the end, I wouldn’t roster him on my teams and I see this as Willis’ job for the majority of the year.

DSEmpire_Chris @FantasyChillpony: “Moreno over Ridley this week?

I think at this time you have to ride the hot horse (pun intended) Chris until it either crashes and burns, or carries you to the promised land of fantasy trophies and purse monies! You have to stick with Moreno. Ridley has been terrible the first two games. First his fumblitis struck and then he faced a tough Jets run defense and posted horrible stats in week 2. This week he gets an underrated Buc’s defense.

Meanwhile, Moreno has played exceptionally well and should be on the field even more (as noted in the first pregunta) as Denver continues to have it’s oline decimated.

The only caveat is if Gronk is a go for this week. His very presence on the field should be enough to scare defenses and in turn open up running lanes for Ridley.  But if it were me? I’d ride the Bronco!

Thanks as always for writing! Please send your week 4 questions to me or any other @FakePigskin writer on Twitter using the #PigskinPreguntas or #PP. You can also write to me at

Pigskin Preguntas Week 2

http://www.fakepigskin.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/P.I.-Pig-finish-sm-1.jpgWelcome to Pigskin Preguntas- courtesy of Greg Newbold’s book The Barnyard Night Before Christmas

http://gregnewbold.blogspot.com/2010/11/sneaky.html?m=1

Welcome back to Pigskin Preguntas! I hope you enjoyed last weeks edition as well as all the other fantastic week 1 content here at www.Fakepigskin.com

And now to the questions!

Michael Valverde @RFLRedZone: Julius Thomas had 1 reception in the second half, and will be fighting for receptions with the list of receivers in Denver. Was he just lucky game 1 or will he produce all season?”

Thanks for writing Michael. To answer your question we will look at the past. Peyton Manning has made much less athletic TE’s fantasy relevant in Dallas Clark, Jacob Tamme, and to an extent Joel Dreessen. Thomas is a former basketball player turned TE and he looked great in his first game as the starter. He should produce all year. Manning has always shown an affinity to get his tight end’s involved. I see no reason why that changes with Julius Thomas.

Jonathan Purvis @JonDPurvis: “With Russell Wilson playing against the 49ers I have to start Pryor against the awful Jags correct?”

Jon, can I call you Jon? I hope I can.  While conventional wisdom may say sit Wilson against a stout San Francisco defense, I would advise against this. Ultimately, the decision is yours.  However, the last time Wilson faced the 9er’s he scored 23.74 points and threw for 4 TD’s. Seattle won that game 42-13. Seattle plays hard at home, it’s a divisional game against a hated rival, I think Wilson has a big game.

Pryor on the other hand has what appears to be a cake  match up with Jacksonville. Yet JAX had the 11th ranked DST vs the pass last week. If it was my team, I would sit Pryor this week.

Erin from AZ: Brian Hartline vs INDY or Tavon Austin vs ATL in non ppr?”

Great question Erin! To me it comes down to which player to I think will be more heavily involved this week. For me in non ppr it’s Hartline. He was heavily targeted last week, and scored on a beautiful double move. He has great rapport with Tannehill, and should consistently line up against teams second best corner. Last week he abused Cleveland’s Buster Skrine, this week Greg Toler. Once again Hartline is 3-4 inches taller and out weighs Toler by about 12-15lbs. Austin on the other hand relies on reception totals to get his points and there are far more mouths to feed in STL than in MIA. Start Hartline with confidence this week!

Duncan @wonderfunk99: “TD heavy scoring- pick 2 WR’s: Garcon, Edelman, Bowe, Dez, Desean Jackson?”

Duncan, that is one impressive stable of wide receivers. I know Dez and Bowe probably both had rough games for you last week, but that really shouldn’t last all year. Hang in there buddy, it will only get better. That being said, If I am picking the two players from this group I think are most likely to find the end zone once or twice, I am going to have to go with  (mind you I am writing this after the Thursday night game so I am excluding Edelman from my answer) Bowe and Garcon. Both those receivers face more favorable defenses and should be heavily targeted by their respective QB’s. RGIII should have no rust left on him in week 2, and I expect Alex Smith to find Bowe early and often against Dallas this week.

Dez Bryant is dinged up, will face Brandon Flowers, and a strong Chiefs defense this week.  Desean Jackson has always been boom or bust and the Chargers had the NFL’s best rated defense against WR TD’s in week 1.
