Alex Wood (LAD vs. MIA)
Moneyline: -250
Over/Under: 8
FanDuel: $8,900/DraftKings: $9,400
If you didn’t know Wood before, you probably do now. He’s been lighting it up for the Dodgers and looks to be in a great position for another dominating performance tonight against the Marlins. Wood’s velocity is up this season, which is probably helping to set up his pitches much better, resulting in outs and strikeouts. So far for the season, Wood has excellent splits against both handedness of hitter, and Marlins’ bats should be an easy.
Chris Sale (BOS @ OAK)
Moneyline: -200
Over/Under: 7
FanDuel: $12,000/DraftKings: $13,000
It’s a hefty price tag for Sale, but his numbers justify it. To top it off, he gets to pitch in Oakland. Sale’s K/9 is currently at 13.04, which is more of what we want to see from him. Last season, it was 9.25, as a result of trying to pitch to contact more. As a team, the A’s have a swinging strike rate of 10.5%, strikeout at a rate of 23.4%, which is sixth highest in the MLB. Although the A’s bats can be scrappy, it’s hard not to side with Sale tonight.
Nate Karns (KC @ MIN)
Moneyline: -114
Over/Under: 8
FanDuel: $8,200/DraftKings: $8,000
Karns has been doing things in his last couple of starts, with doubt-digit strikeouts in each. Hard to believe, right? Against a Twins team who have Miguel Sano and Byron Buxton, with K-rates over 33%, Karns should have a nice shot at reaching another high strikeout night. He’s still prone to giving up homeruns, but it shouldn’t hurt if it’s only solo shots.
