Following on from our 90 feet shift up the first base line we will follow the diamond round another 90 feet to the hot corner position of third base. In comparison to the guys directly across the diamond this position is relatively shallow in potential top end talent but is rife with mid-level talent. As with the previous two articles I will be outlining the categories people excel in compared to those players I’ve tiered

No matter how prepared you are for a snake draft, curveballs are going to come your way. Your buddy is going to take your big sleeper two picks before you. When you skip over a player thinking “he’ll be there next round”, POOF, he’s gone. But every now and then the fantasy gods throw you a bone. You become torn between two players, and the decision often feels like it will make or break your

For the second tiers article I make the walk 90 feet back to home plate from first to look at the catchers you will be drafting to anchor your fantasy teams this year. Now catcher is a tricky position in fantasy because so many of the players have significantly less AB’s than players of other position and so weighing up how much of a contribution a catcher will make to your team is always that

Ahh. The sun shining, the clean cut grass, the Big League chew, sunflower seeds and chewing tobacco… Oh baseball, how we’ve missed you. 2014 is among us and some big headlines have entered the fold. For one, Derek Jeter, “The Captain”, retiring and rookie sensation Masahiro Tanaka. Who will be the surprise accolade winners? Let’s start with the American League. American League MVP Evan Longoria, 3B, Tampa Bay Rays - In 2012, he had an injury

Fantasy Baseball: How to Survive an Auction In fantasy sports, players can be categorized into three generic manager profiles: The guy who prepares for the draft then coasts through the regular season The guy who wings the draft then scours the free agents like a lion looking for lunch (this guy also tends to send ridiculous trade offers that a 4 year old would decline) The guy who does both In an ideal world we

This is the first in a new Fantasy Baseball series called “Mocking The Offseason” where I will be doing a realistic mock draft based on having pick 7 of 12. I am not strictly using ADP to determine what players are available, as much as drafting a team as I would in reality. I will break down each of the players I would hope to select in each round with the 7th pick. So come

You’re probably wondering, “What the heck?! FakePIGSKIN and there is fantasy baseball on here?!” I know you’re surprised (and to be honest I was too), but here at FakePigskin we plan to become your household go-to fantasy site, and with fantasy baseball around the corner, we don’t have a lot of time, so let’s get started.

Spring Training has begun and the optimism among baseball fans is high for both their real and fantasy seasons. While there is nothing you can do to make a difference to your real teams you can control the fate of your fantasy teams by picking the right players at the right time in the draft and not reaching for players when you can take a similar but more underrated talent three rounds later. That is

One of the lesser discussed reasons that certain top players are worth passing on is because there’s someone almost identical to them much later. Why take a guy who’s going to hit .285/35/100 in the first round when you can take a guy who can hit .260/35/100 in the fifth (will cover this in my first example)? It doesn’t make sense. When drafting early, you want guys you can rely on that have unique skill

| Maclin Returns to the Eagles |
|
WR Jeremy Maclin, coming off an ACL tear that caused him to miss all of 2013, has signed a prove-it deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for one year at $5.5 million. While this is great for the Philly offense as a whole, it doesn’t bode well for Maclin’s fantasy value in 2014. He will join a crowded receiving corp featuring DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper. Cooper will likely be the WR2, and the offense will still be centered around LeSean McCoy. Maclin will have some great games next year, but will likely struggle to provide consistent production.

| Dennis Pitta Resigns With the Baltimore Ravens |
|
TE Dennis Pitta signed a 5-year, $32 million dollar deal, putting an end to what could have been a long negotation. The absence of Pitta due to injury was one of the main reasons why the Ravens’ offense sputtered last year. Entering 2014 he’s got a ton of upside, as he’ll be QB Joe Flacco’s safety blanket. While he has the size of a TE, he plays the majority of his snaps in the slot. This creates matchup problems for smaller DBs who try to cover him. Look for Pitta to be one of the trendier sleeper TEs this offseason.

| Break Out Candidate: Tyler Eifert |
|
Tyler Eifert will become a dynamic weapon from the tight end position in his second season in Cincinnati. He has the athletic ability and size to dominate as a pass catcher. The Bengals could utilize him in the slot even with Jermaine Gresham lined up in the typical tight end position. The Bengals need an option to go opposite AJ Green and Eifert will be that guy. Eifert’s improved blocking ability should help be on the field for more snaps and have the chance to make more plays.

Jon Niese confirms he’s set to make his 2014 Grapefruit League debut as the starter for Tuesday’s game. Niese felt some discomfort in his throwing shoulder, back in late February. He threw two innings in a scrimmage on Thursday, and he left the outing with no discomfort. If Niese leaves Tuesday’s start with no setbacks, he should be ready for the Mets opening series. | Nelson Cruz |

As the regular season draws closer, Cruz seemed ready to bring down his asking price. Cruz could be a great fit in the middle of Baltimore’s lineup. If he pans out it could be one of the best lineups in the AL. Cruz is looking at the majority of his at-bats as the DH. Cruz could get an occasional start in the OF, whenever Markakis or David Lough need a day off. Source: Enrique Rojas on Twitter

| Samuel Eto’o, Chelsea – Forward |
|
Eto’o was forced into action today after being set to start the match against Tottenham on the bench. After Fernando Torres left warm ups with an apparent groin injury, Eto’o was called upon for the start in his place and took full advantage. The two sides went scoreless until the 56th minute until Eto’o intercepted an errant pass from Spurs defender Jan Vertenghen to net the first goal of the match. The goal essentially opened up the scoring for the home side who took a 4-0 result to push their lead at the top of the table to seven points.

| Steven Caulker, Cardiff City – Defender |
|
Caulker all but locked up the EPL fantasy player of Matchweek 29 with a two goal performance at home against Fulham. Caulker found himself unmarked for a tap in off a deflection in the 45th minute and then again free on a delivery from the corner by Jordon Mutch in the 67th minute to win a very important three points for his club. Cardiff City is not out of trouble just yet as they move up just one spot to 18th in the table.
