MLB DFS: Targets for 6/3
-
Updated: June 3, 2016

Pitching is plentiful, but targeting hitters may not be so easy. It’s a full MLB DFS slate, just without the day game between the Diamondbacks and Cubs.

Kenta Maeda (LAD vs. ATL)
Moneyline: -200
Over/Under: 7
FanDuel: $8,600/DraftKings: $9,100
The Dodgers are the heaviest favored team to get the win tonight with Maeda on the mound. The Braves will be facing Maeda for the first time, and can find success against the struggling Braves offense.
Noah Syndergaard (NYM @MIA)
Moneyline: -190
Over/Under: 7
FanDuel: $10,600/DraftKings: $12,800
Surprise! Thor isn’t the most expensive pitcher on the slate. He’ll be pitching at Marlins Park against an offense that hasn’t been great this season. Syndergaard has been one of the best pitchers so far this season and he should be able to shut down the Marlins.
Yu Darvish (TEX vs. SEA)
Moneyline: -138
Over/Under: 8 1/2
FanDuel: $9,000/DraftKings: $9,200
This will be just the second start for Darvish after having Tommy John surgery. It was impressive, but it’s hard to predict how the rest of the season will turn out. Darvish should be looked at as a GPP option and/or a second pitcher on two pitcher sites.
Other pitchers to consider: David Price (BOS vs. TOR), Danny Salazar (CLE vs. KC), and Drew Pomeranz (SD vs. COL).
Catchers
Brian McCann (NYY @ BAL)
FanDuel: $2,800/DraftKings: $3,500
The Yankees are at Camden Yards and facing Chris Tillman. McCann has the platoon here and his numbers at Camden Yards are pretty good, with a .303 batting average, .424 slugging percentage, and .310 BABIP, in 19 games played.
Victor Martinez (DET vs. CWS)
FanDuel: $3,200/DraftKings: $4,400 (first base eligible)
Martinez and other right-handed Tigers’ bats might be a popular stack against Carlos Rodon. In his career against right-handed bats, Rodon is allowing a .436 slugging percentage, .350 wOBA, and 1.16 HR/9.
Other catchers to consider: Derek Norris (SD vs. COL), Matt Wieters (BAL vs. NYY), and Stephen Vogt (OAK @ HOU).
First base
David Ortiz (BOS vs. TOR)
FanDuel: $4,600/DraftKings: $5,500
Ortiz and the Red Sox offense has been hot, and they will be another team that should be a popular stack tonight. This is a team that will be rostered even against the best of pitchers, so they will be played against R.A. Dickey.
Chris Davis (BAL vs. NYY)
FanDuel: $3,900/DraftKings: $3,900
At the same price on both sites, Davis is more of a GPP play because of his low floor and high ceiling. The Yankees are sending Nathan Eovaldi to the mound, and you want left-handed bats if you’re rostering against him. For the season against lefties, Eovaldi is allowing a .500 slugging percentage, .353 wOBA, and 1.59 HR/9.
Other first basemen to consider: Edwin Encarnacion (TOR @ BOS), Joey Votto (CIN vs. WAS), and Hanley Ramirez (BOS vs. TOR).
Second base
Neil Walker (NYM @ MIA)
FanDuel: $3,500/DraftKings: $4,300
Walker could be a nice way to different your lineup. He’s picked it up with the bat lately and will be matched up against Tom Koehler. Left-handed bats have more success against Koehler, and Walker batting in the middle of the lineup makes him a fine play at the position.
Ian Kinsler (DET vs. CWS)
FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $4,700
Kinsler is another Detroit bat that I like for tonight. His offense has really come around this season which is especially helpful to the team with Justin Upton having a down year. Kinsler does well at setting the table from the leadoff spot, but the pop in his bat is a nice commodity to have as well.
Other second basemen to consider: Josh Harrison (PIT vs. LAA), Jurickson Profar (TEX vs. SEA), and Devon Travis (TOR @ BOS)
Third base
Jung Ho Kang (PIT vs. LAA)
FanDuel: $3,100/DraftKings: $3,800
Jered Weaver and the Angels are making a cross-country trip to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates in an interleague matchup, and that’s something the Pirates could take advantage of. For the season, Kang is showing extra power that I didn’t expect so soon off the disabled list, but it’s been a nice surprise.
Justin Turner (LAD vs. ATL)
FanDuel: $2,700/DraftKings: $2,900
Turner is a better hitter against pitchers of the same handedness, and we have that tonight as the Dodgers face Julio Teheran. He’s priced similarly on both sites and could be rostered if you’re looking for salary relief. It’s a small sample size on Teheran, does not pitch well on the West Coast and has allowed 32 earned runs in eight game starts.
Other third basemen to consider: Josh Donaldson (TOR @ BOS), Nolan Arenado (COL vs. SD), and Trevor Plouffe (MIN vs. TB).
Shortstop
Manny Machado (BAL vs. NYY)
FanDuel: $3,900/DraftKings: $4,700 (third base eligible)
Machado has better numbers for his career against right-handed pitchers, and he has that tonight in Eovaldi. The Orioles as a team have been scoring a ton of runs in the last couple of games and the momentum can carry over to tonight.
Corey Seager (LAD vs. ATL)
FanDuel: $3,400/DraftKings: $3,800
As mentioned with Turner, Teheran has been prone to giving up runs on the West Coast in his so far in his career. Left-handed bats have had more success against him and Seager is the type of hitter that can give Teheran trouble by working him deep into counts.
Other shortstops to consider: Danny Espinosa (WAS @ CIN), Brad Miller (TB @MIN), and Aledmys Diaz (STL vs. SF).
Outfield
Mookie Betts (BOS vs. TOR)
FanDuel: $4,700/DraftKings: $5,500
Betts went on a home run tear, but that’s not why we should fit him into our lineups. Like Ortiz, he’s playing in a lineup that scores runs like a machine and as their leadoff hitter, he gets more plate appearances than most which gives him more opportunities at scoring fantasy points.
Mike Trout (LAA @ PIT)
FanDuel: $4,800/DraftKings: $5,300
Trout will be hitting in one of the best parks for pitchers, which makes him more of a GPP play. He will be facing Pirates southpaw, Francisco Liriano, who has had a shaky season thus far. All it takes is one bad inning and we know Trout has the ability to make pitchers pay for their mistakes.
Bryce Harper (WAS @ CIN)
FanDuel: $3,900/DraftKings: $4,900
Harper’s price has really fallen, and so has his offense. He doesn’t have the platoon against Brandon Finnegan, but he’s always in consideration for hitting a home run if he gets a pitch to hit. The positive park shift to the Great American definitely helps.
Other outfielders to consider: J.D. Martinez (DET vs. CWS), Jose Bautista (TOR @ BOS), Jayson Werth (WAS @ CIN), George Springer (HOU vs. OAK), Corey Dickerson (TB @ MIN), Ryan Raburn (COL @ SD), Colby Rasmus (HOU vs. OAK).
