NHL DFS: Wednesday Rivalry Night

Happy Pi Day everyone.  NHL DFS is back with another installment of Wednesday rivalry night.  We look ahead at a five game slate for this evening with a few players you can plug into your lineups.  Let’s dive right in!

B2B Dallas Stars (38-26-6) @ Toronto Maple Leafs (40-22-7)

Pittsburgh Penguins (40-26-4) @ New York Rangers (31-32-7)

San Jose Sharks (37-23-9) @ B2B Edmonton Oilers (30-35-4)

Vancouver Canucks (25-36-9) @ Anaheim Ducks (34-24-12)

New Jersey Devils (35-26-8) @ Vegas Knights (45-19-5)

C Evgeni Malkin (DK $7,900/FD $9,200)

Malkin has been excellent recently.  In his previous 15 games, he’s produced 1.67 points/g with 25 points on 9 goals and 16 assists and a +13 on the ice.  The Rangers are not a strong team this season and sold away some of their top players at the trade deadline, including their top defenseman Ryan McDonagh.  He is currently on a pace that could exceed 100 points on the season, with 87 through 66 games.  Malkin’s CF% and FF% both exceed 52.0, and he starts shifts in the offensive zone a ridiculous 64.5% of the time.

W Rickard Rakell (DK $7,400/FD $7,100)

Rickard Rakell has been hot as of late, producing 8 goals and 5 assists in his last 10 games played.  It must be easy to play with top-line veteran superstars, Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf.  The all-star winger has also been called upon this season to contribute on the power-play with 7 pp goals and 8 pp assists.  Rakell was great last year, and has still improved this season upping his point total from 51 last year to 59 this year with 12 games remaining.  His shot totals are up as well, sitting with 189 on goal and 335 attempted.

C William Nylander (DK $4,900/FD $5,800) and W Mitch Marner (DK $6,100/FD $6,400)

I like the potential of pairing Nylander and Marner tonight as they go against a Dallas Stars team on the second night of a back-to-back.  It has also been confirmed that backup goalie Kari Lehtonen will be in night again for the second straight night with Ben Bishop still out.  It feels like this young duo could feast against a tired Stars group.  Marner is having a great season possession-wise with a CF% and FF% above 50.0 and starting most of his shifts in the offensive zone (oZS% 56.8) which has led to his team leading 56 points through 69 games played.  Line mate William Nylander is tied for second in points on the Leafs with 50 (14 goals and 36 assists). The line may look a little different with Auston Matthews still out due to injury, but it should not slow them down too much, if at all.

D Dylan DeMelo (DK $2,900/FD $3,600)

A cheaper option tonight, DeMelo has produced well in the last five games as a +4 with 7 assists.  His numbers on the season do not jump off the chart as he has yet to score a goal this season. However, the 24 year old has improved in most categories since joining the NHL in 2015.  I like the matchup in this game as he likely won’t face the 1st line of Edmonton, featuring Connor McDavid, Milan Lucic, and Leon Draisaitl, but could defend against their other, weaker lines.  He has almost increased his blocked shots (48) and nearly doubled his hit totals (64) and has a CF% of 50.9 and a FF% of 52.9.  Look for him to play well against the lowly Edmonton Oilers.
