MLB DFS: Targets for 5/5

There’s a 13-game slate for us to look at for MLB DFS tonight. There are weather concerns in the eastern part of the country, so be sure to keep an eye on any delays or cancellations.

Dallas Keuchel (HOU @ LAA)

Moneyline: -130

Over/Under: 8

FanDuel: $10,700/DraftKings: $10,400

Keuchel continues to have a dominant start to the season and this matchup against the Angels shouldn’t slow him down. It’s not a home game, but that’s ok. Angel Stadium is more of a pitcher’s park, and we should take advantage of that when Keuchel’s on the road. The Angels aren’t very good offensively, and they are near the bottom in MLB in walk-rate, ISO, and wOBA. Keuchel should be able to continue on with his winning ways.

Yu Darvish (TEX @ SEA)

Moneyline: -128

Over/Under: 7 1/2

FanDuel: $10,600/DraftKings: $11,200

At these prices, Darvish is more of a GPP play. There are times he doesn’t pitch well into a game, and we heavily rely on his strikeouts to get fantasy points. A good thing is that Darvish has pitched at least into the sixth inning in each of his starts. There are a couple of lefty bats to have a little concern over, like Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager. Like Keuchel, Safeco Field is a pitcher’s park and we should take advantage of it.

Other pitchers to target:

Chris Archer (TB vs. TOR) FanDuel: $9,600/DraftKings: $9,600

Andrew Triggs (OAK vs. DET) FanDuel: $7,800/DraftKings: $6,700

Miguel Gonzalez (CWS @ BAL) FanDuel: $7,200/DraftKings: $5,600

Yasmani Grandal (LAD @ SD)

FanDuel: $2,700 (C)/DraftKings: $3,400 (C)

Grandal’s bat has been a little quiet so far, and he’s due for a monster game. Jhoulys Chacin is on the mound tonight for the Padres. While he’s pitched a couple of pretty good games, there have been some bad ones as well. Grandal isn’t a player who bats for a high average. When you roster him, it’s with the thought that he can bring you upside with the pop in his bat. In his career against RHPs, he has an ISO of .202. If he bats fourth in the lineup, he’s definitely my favorite catcher of the night for his salary.

Edwin Encarnacion (CLE @ KC)

FanDuel: $3,100 (1B)/DraftKings: $4,400 (1B)

It feels like Encarnacion is due for a multi-homerun night. Could tonight be it? That’s my hot take! But for his price on FD, it’s worth some exposure, especially with Jason Hammel on the mound. He’s only pitched three innings in his last two starts, and struggling tonight is foreseeable against the Indians’ offense. There isn’t much difference in terms of splits for Encarnacion, so having the platoon doesn’t matter.

Ryan Schimpf (SD vs. LAD)

FanDuel: $3,100 (2B)/DraftKings: $3,400 (3B)

Schimpf had a nice run over several games recently, and I really like him tonight against Kenta Maeda. He hasn’t been sharp so far, and the Padres’ bats can take advantage of that if it continues tonight. Even with his struggles, Maeda’s strikeouts have been there and Schimpf does strikeout at a rate of 30.2% for the season. Like Grandal, Schimpf’s upside comes with the pop in his bat.

Miguel Sano (MIN vs. BOS)

FanDuel: $4,000 (3B)/DraftKings: $4,200 (3B)

There’s serious power coming off the bat of Sano. He’s in the top seven in MLB in ISO, BABIP, slugging, and wOBA. Southpaw, Eduardo Rodriguez, is on the mound tonight for the Red Sox. Although he’s pitched well this season, if there’s one hitter that can hurt him, it’s Sano. Whether you believe in hot streaks or not, one thing is certain: Sano is on a tear and we need to roster him while we can.

David Peralta (ARI @ COL)

FanDuel: $4,000 (OF)/DraftKings: $4,700 (OF)

Kind of a no-brainer here. Peralta against RHPs is a given. German Marquez is pitching tonight for the Rockies. He struggled in his first start at Coors Field, and we are hoping for more of the same if you’re paying up for D-Backs bats. The splits for Peralta is a pretty wide range and it’s a mistake not to consider him when he has the platoon.
