Week 6 Two Start Pitchers

Nationals Max Scherzer

With more pitchers hitting the DL this past week it feels like picking the right week 6 two start options has become even more crucial for fantasy rotations. Some rotations will have been devastated by all these injuries and those owners will be scraping the barrel to get enough stats together from their staff this week. Personally I have never owned as many relievers as I currently do on my rosters and I have already started scouring the waiver wire to try and get as many of the two start guys on my roster as I can. There are some rotations still not set this week and so where I can I have guessed but where it is too hard to call I have simply left question marks.

Notes:

  • I have Justin Verlander as the two start man in Detroit but some places have it being Matt Boyd. Either way they are a must start in 12 team leagues even on the road for two starts. In 10 team leagues I am starting Verlander but Boyd is right on the fringe.
  • Hishashi Iwakuma has two really nice starts against offences who aren’t lighting up the scoreboard making him fringey in 10 team leagues but must start in 12 teamers.
  • Matt Andriese gets to face the worst offence in baseball right now in the Royals and with the Red Sox not firing either I think he can be a really useful piece this week.
  • Charlie Morton has been on fire his last couple of outings which has put him into 12 team consideration. I think I would start him in 12 teamers but hes getting close to borderline.
  • Alex Wood is probably my last 12 team for sure starter. The start in Colorado scares me but I think he can do enough good against Pittsburgh at home that he can still give you valuable production.
  • Out of the three young pitchers ranked 18-20 it is Taillon I trust the most to throw the most innings. He is right on the borderline of what I would start in a 12 team league but I think there is a ton of talent and I am trusting it.
  • The Julio Urias and Blake Snell pairing make my head hurt. Both have a ton of upside but both walk too many guys and don’t go deep enough into games. I think they can go 5 innings but maybe not 6 so for that reason I am saying must start in 12 team leagues which count wins but borderline in ones which count QS.
  • Kendall Graveman stumbled last time out but I think he does enough good in the Angels start to make him close to a 12 team starter
  • I know Kevin Gausman get the worst team in baseball right now but he also gets the hottest offense and for that reason I think I am benching him in 12 team leagues if I have 5 or 6 starters I can trust over him.
  • Jerad Eickhoff has to go into Washington and with Seattle being no rollover I think I will have to bench him in 12 teamers but 14+ I will roll with him and hope for one good start at least.
  • AJ Griffin is my last 14 team absolute yes guy this week because I don’t think you get two better starts than facing the Padres and A’s currently in the majors. I am going to roll the dice on this one.
  • Hector Santiago and Ricky Nolasco are the borderline 14 team league starts along with Nick Martinez who similar to Griffin has a starts combo I would love to take advantage of.
  • Two starts at home for the Colorado (Antonio Senzatela & Kyle Freeland) and Milwaukee (Wily Peralta) pitchers mean I am absolutely not using them unless I have no choice (NL only for example).
