Updated: April 20, 2017

It’s a smaller schedule of games tonight for MLB DFS, with a nice sized slate with seven games.

James Paxton (SEA @ OAK)
Moneyline: -150
Over/Under: 7 1/2
FanDuel: $9,000/DraftKings: $9,600
With other more notable names pitching tonight, I wanted to make sure to give a mention to a pitcher who is rising in the ranks. Paxton had a promising ending to last season and he’s starting this season strong. He hasn’t allowed any earned runs, let alone any runs in three starts to begin the season against the Astros and Rangers. Paxton is starting in another pitcher’s park tonight in Oakland, and the Mariners didn’t have to travel far for this 4-game series. The only threat that I’m worried about in the A’s lineup is Khris Davis, but even if he gives up a solo homerun, Paxton should still be fine.
Danny Duffy (KC @ TEX)
Moneyline: -120
Over/Under: 9
FanDuel: $9,400/DraftKings: $8,200
I wrote up Duffy on the 14th, and my reasoning for starting him tonight almost mirrors it. His price dropped on both sites, but it’s especially appealing on DK where it’s down $700. Duffy’s been consistent to start the season and has been able to mitigate damage even when he does give up a homerun or walks. The Rangers are striking out 22.6% of the time so there’s some strikeout upside for Duffy. Interesting fact about the Rangers so far this season: they are 5-10 to start the season and for the games they’ve won so far, they scored seven runs or more. Whether it’s their starting pitching or bullpen, their opponents always have a chance to win.
Other pitchers to target:
Noah Syndergaard (NYM vs. PHI) FanDuel: $11,200/DraftKings: $11,800
Stephen Strasburg (WAS vs. ATL) FanDuel: $10,600/DraftKings: $11,100
Hitters:
Eric Thames (MIL vs. STL)
FanDuel: $3,800 (1B)/DraftKings: $3,800 (1B)
Thames has been hot and he’s hard to fade at under $4,000 on both sites. Carlos Martinez is pitching for the Cardinals tonight, and he’s been struggling. Against a Brewers offense who have been scoring a decent amount of runs, CarMar can’t afford to make mistakes. Aside from Thames, the Brewers as a team can be used for a team stack.
Daniel Murphy (WAS @ ATL)
FanDuel: $3,400 (2B)/DraftKings: $4,500 (2B)
Murphy’s improvements from 2015 hasn’t tapered off. He hasn’t faced R.A. Dickey yet in his career, so it’s hard to say how he’ll do against a knuckleballer. It wouldn’t hurt to have some exposure to him in some of your lineups, especially with SunTrust Park looking to be much better for hitters as opposed to Turner Field.
Mike Moustakas (KC @ TEX)
FanDuel: $3,200 (3B)/DraftKings: $3,700 (3B)
Moustakas is quietly having a really good first couple of weeks. In 14 games, he’s only gone hitless in two of them. His K-rate is a little high as compared to previous seasons, but with Andrew Cashner on the mound for the Rangers and in Texas, Moustakas should be able to put the bat on the ball. The Royals are another game I like for a stack.
Eugenio Suarez (CIN vs. BAL)
FanDuel: $3,800 (3B)/DraftKings: $3,700 (3B)
Suarez, like every hitter I’ve mentioned so far, is having a really good start to the season. The Reds are facing southpaw, Wade Miley, and should be another popular stack. We should probably expect regression but also need to roster him while he’s still producing. For his career against LHPs, Suarez has a .473 slugging percentage, .819 OPS, and .200 ISO.
Yasmany Tomas (ARI @ SD)
FanDuel: $3,400 (OF)/DraftKings: $3,900 (OF)
Tomas has extremely favorable splits against LHPs, and the D-backs are facing another tonight in Clayton Richard. Against southpaws for his career, Tomas is slugging .586, .954 OPS, .266 ISO, and .379 BABIP. Richard’s splits between RHHs and LHHs are pretty wide, which bodes well for right-handed D-backs bats. If there’s one outfielder to roster tonight, Tomas is my target.
Other hitters to target:
Freddie Freeman (ATL vs. WAS) FanDuel: $3,500(1B)/DraftKings: $4,400(1B)
Robinson Cano (SEA @ OAK) FanDuel: $3,400(2B)/DraftKings: $4,400(2B)
Travis Shaw (MIL vs. STL) FanDuel: $3,200 (3B)/DraftKings: $3,600 (3B)
Jay Bruce (NYM vs. PHI) FanDuel: $3,500 (OF)/DraftKings: $3,500 (OF)
Adam Eaton (WAS @ ATL) FanDuel: $3,700(OF)/DraftKings: $4,000(OF)
