It’s another Friday without the Cubs day game, which means there’s 14 games for tonight’s MLB DFS slate.

Max Scherzer (WAS @ ATL)
Moneyline: -235
Over/Under: 7 1/2
FanDuel: $11,000/DraftKings: $13,700
Yes, the Braves bats have come alive since the acquisition of Matt Kemp, but with the birth of Freddie Freeman‘s first child, the lineup may be without him for the next few games. Even if Freeman does make it into the lineup, this matchup is still a heavy favorite for Scherzer to get the win, especially with John Gant on the mound for the Braves.
Luke Weaver (STL @ SF)
Moneyline: +105
Over/Under: 7 1/2
FanDuel: $7,100/DraftKings: $5,200
That price on DraftKings and the Giants’ downhill second-half, makes me really like Weaver. He’ll be pitching in one of the best pitcher’s parks and the Giant’s are in the bottom seven in the league in ISO, batting average, slugging, and wOBA. With this game having one of the lowest run totals, it may be an interesting play to pair Weaver with Matt Moore on two-pitcher sites. The Cardinals haven’t scored many runs in the last several games, and with Moore being a southpaw, he can limit their lefty bats.
Other pitchers to consider: Corey Kluber (CLE vs. DET), Matt Moore (SF vs. STL), and Bartolo Colon (NYM vs. MIN).
Catchers
Yasmani Grandal (LAD @ ARI)
FanDuel: $2,800/DraftKings: $3,700
If you want to pivot off of the Coors Field game, Grandal can be your target for his price. With the Dodgers in a hitter’s park, at Chase Field, and Zack Greinke not being elite anymore, the Dodgers could be in for a high-offensive night again against him. This season, Greinke’s giving up 1.56 HR/9 against left-handed bats, versus 0.95 HR/9 in his career. If there’s a time to roster against Greinke, this is the season.
Other catchers to consider: Tom Murphy (COL vs. SD), Derek Norris (SD @ COL), and Gary Sanchez (NYY @ BOS).
First base
Chris Davis (BAL vs. TB)
FanDuel: $3,200/DraftKings: $4,000
This is the lowest price for Davis on FanDuel for a while, so it’s hard not to consider him in a GPP on the site. Rays are sending Chris Archer to the mound and he’s been pitching better as of late. He’s still giving up the home run ball, and that’s what you’re crossing your fingers for when rostering Davis. As we know, Davis is boom or bust.
Other first basemen to consider: Joey Votto (CIN vs. PIT), Wil Myers (SD @ COL), and Edwin Encarnacion (TOR @ LAA).
Second base
Ryan Schimpf (SD @ COL)
FanDuel: $3,700/DraftKings: $4,900
Who knew Ryan Schimpf would hit all these home runs? Since June 1st, he’s hit 19 home runs! If we like him on days when he’s in neutral or pitcher’s parks, then we would definitely love him tonight at Coors Field. The Padres are going up against right-hander, Tyler Chatwood, who like most Rockies’ pitchers, doesn’t pitch well at home.
Other second basemen to consider: Daniel Murphy (WAS @ ATL), Brian Dozier (MIN @ NYM), and Starlin Castro (NYY @ BOS).
Andy Cross – The Denver Post
Third base
Nolan Arenado (COL vs. SD)
FanDuel: $3,800/DraftKings: $5,500
Arenado’s price makes him as close to a must-play as there is with his price being sub $4k on FanDuel, with southpaw, Christian Friedrich on the mound. It’s hard to imagine rostering anyone else at the position tonight.
Other third basemen to consider: Manny Machado (BAL vs. TB-also SS on DK), Evan Longoria (TB @ BAL), and Justin Turner (LAD @ ARI).
Shortstop
Asdrubal Cabrera (NYM vs. MIN)
FanDuel: $3,400/DraftKings: $3,800
The Mets are at home and facing Jose Berrios, who has been struggling in the big leagues. Berrios has given up three or more earned runs in 10 of 11 games started. Cabrera isn’t a common name to roster, but he’s consistent when it comes to producing offensively. He’s a target if you want to save a little at the position.
Other shortstops to consider: Corey Seager (LAD @ ARI), Brad Miller (TB @ BAL), and Didi Gregorius (NYY @ BOS).
Outfield
Trea Turner (WAS @ ATL)
FanDuel: $4,100/DraftKings: $5,300 (also 2B on DK)
Tuner’s price on DraftKings isn’t something I would worry about too much because of his ability to steal bases. Tonight could be a night for that, as John Gant will be pitching for the Braves. Gant hasn’t pitched deep into his starts and this could quickly turn into a bullpen game. Other Nationals’ bats are also in play tonight.
Mike Trout (LAA vs. TOR)
FanDuel: $4,200/DraftKings: $5,500
For those of you who are BVP believers, here are Trout’s numbers against R.A. Dickey:
- Avg.: .462 (6 for 13)
- Slugging: .769
- OPS: 1.332
- Walks: 3
Other outfielders to consider: Carlos Beltran (TEX vs. OAK), Bryce Harper (WAS @ ATL), Carlos Gonzalez (COL vs. SD), Jose Bautista (TOR @ LAA), Kevin Kiermaier (TB @ BAL), Yoenis Cespedes (NYM vs. MIN), Nelson Cruz (SEA @ LAA), and Scott Schebler (CIN vs. PIT).
