Fantasy Baseball: Top 50 Hitters Going Forward
-
Updated: May 3, 2016

The Fake Pigskin team got together to rank the top 50 hitters for fantasy baseball. These rankings look at what we expect these hitters to do the rest of the way. Noticeably absent from all of our rankings is Trevor Story who has been impressive to start the season but we all see some regression coming even Ron who is the biggest Story fan among the group. He hits a ton of home runs but strikes out far too often for anyone to rank him in the top 50.
A few players made jumps inside my rankings including Starling Marte who has been nothing short of impressive thus far. He has been a providing a little bit of everything for fantasy owners. He has been a terror on the base paths and has been displaying some power. I expect this to continue as he is inside my top 15 going forward. Dexter Fowler was the other big mover for me. Coming into the season i wondered how many plate appearances he would have with all the talent on their roster. Between the early production and an injury to Kyle Schwarber Fowler should remain a big part of the Cubs lineup which will keep him firmly inside the top 50 hitters.

Damian’s big mover
Eric Hosmer was a player I liked heading into the year and he’s certainly off to a great start. The .341 average isn’t a huge surprise, but it’s nice to see the power and speed this early in the season. While it’s only been a month, Hosmer is currently on pace for a 20-20 campaign with plenty of runs and RBI to boot. Further, his great plate discipline and high contact rate make extended slumps fairly unlikely. It’s pretty rare to find a five category player at first base, but that’s exactly what Hosmer is.
Ben’s big mover
I debated ranking Jose Altuve fourth or fifth in the pre-season but the power surge last year was something I was concerned couldn’t be repeated. I feared that he may not be able to hit five home runs this season but he has proven me wrong. Now I am optimistic for something in the region of 10-15 homers with 30-40 steals whilst hitting 0.300 and score over 100 runs which will put him in the conversation with Trout, Harper and Goldschmidt entering next season.
