Fantasy Baseball: Week 16 Pitching Streamers

Astros Pirates Charlie Morton

The matchups for Week 16 has made it difficult to find pitching streamers early in the week, but there are a few to choose from after sifting through who’s available.  Closing in on the trade deadline will make streaming interesting, and hopefully, give us more options to choose from. Also, don’t forget to click the image below to listen to our podcast!

(7/25 @ PHI)

ESPN: 42%   Yahoo: 41%

Morton’s start for Week 16 comes in Philadelphia. He’ll face a weak lineup and won’t have to face a DH. It’s surprising that he’s available in about 60% of leagues considering how difficult it can be to find decent pitchers. The shift in leagues isn’t too big of a deal for the Astros as it may be for other AL clubs because of their offense, but every little bit helps. Morton does get double-digit strikeouts here and there, and this could be a good time for it, with the Phillies having the 10th highest K-rate in MLB. If Morton’s available for pick up in your league, don’t just use him as a streamer and keep him the rest of the way for those wins and strikeouts.

Ariel Miranda | Oakland Athletics

(7/28 vs. NYM)

ESPN: 36%   Yahoo: 31%

Most will look at game logs and see that Miranda’s struggled in his last two starts, which were against the Astros and Royals. If you’re in a league where every single inning and strikeout counts, you could take a chance. Miranda’s pitching at home against the Mets, who have Rafael Montero lined up to start this game. This game is late enough in the week where you have some time to think about whether is a pick up you really need to make, and Miranda most likely will still be there if you choose to go with him. The Mets are more cold than hot when it comes to producing runs, and with this game being their second series out on the West Coast, I like Miranda’s chances of coming out on top.

Trevor Bauer | Cleveland Indians

(7/26 vs. LAA)

ESPN: 26%   Yahoo: 36%

Bauer got just enough of the job done in Friday night’s start against the Blue Jays, but that’s to be expected. He should do a bit better against the Angels in his Week 16 start. The Angels are still having a rough go of it, even with Mike Trout back in the lineup. Walks are an issue with Bauer at times, but he should be able to mitigate the damage against the Angels. As a team, the Angels have an ISO of .142, which is second to last in MLB. We always see walks hurt pitchers when a homerun is hit, but there’s less of a chance with it happening in this start. Aside from Morton, Bauer is one of the better streaming options this week.

Luis Perdomo | San Diego Padres

(7/27 vs. NYM)

ESPN: 5%   Yahoo: 3%

It wasn’t too long ago when Perdomo was all the rage, but only for a minute. He’s another pitcher that’s facing the Mets this week, but the Padres’ series is before the Mariners’. If you really, really, need to take a chance, I couldn’t blame because he’s capable of having decent starts. Walks are more of an issue than homeruns, but he’ll get you about a handful of strikeouts. Most of the stats in his splits are better in home starts. The Mets have had a couple of road trips where they carried a losing streak of four or more games this season, and (fingers crossed) maybe this trend can continue for our potential streamers.

Thank you for reading, and good luck with your picks!
