MLB DFS: Targets for 6/30

There are a lot of great matchups for tonight’s MLB DFS slates, and a few games with low run totals; something we haven’t been seeing much of lately. Also, don’t forget to click the image below to listen to our podcast!
Pitchers:

I’ll preface this section by saying that I’m pretty high on Alex Wood, Robbie Ray, and Lance McCullers tonight. Since I write about them often, I’ll go over other pitchers to target.

Jason Vargas (KC vs. MIN)

Moneyline: -123

Over/Under: 8 1/2

FanDuel: $8,700/DraftKings: $9,000

Vargas is having an exceptional season, to say the least. He’s had one “bad outing” and has strung together six straight wins, with a few of these against offenses like the Astros and Indians (twice). Vargas is starting against the Twins tonight, at home. Sure, they pack some power but they also strikeout a lot too, a stat category that Vargas sometimes lacks in. On a night where there are other solid pitchers to choose from, he may go overlooked.  The Royals aren’t a heavy favorite for the win, but opposing pitcher, Ervin Santana, is prone to shaky starts. Most will want to target Vargas as their second pitcher on two-pitcher sites.

Gerrit Cole (PIT vs. SF)

Moneyline: -130

Over/Under: 8 1/2

FanDuel: $8,900/DraftKings: $9,500

Cole has been pitching well as of late, with wins in his last three starts, and pitching at least six innings in each of them. He’s also only given up one earned run in each of those starts as well. It looks like he’s settling in more as the season goes on and we can rely on him for consistent starts. The Pirates are playing at home against the Giants. They’re coming off of a sweep at home against the Rockies, but there’s no denying their offensive struggles. Going from one pitcher’s park to another is tough enough, but Cole can certainly come out on top if he keeps pitching like he has been.

Ariel Miranda (SEA @ LAA)

Moneyline: -120

Over/Under: 9

FanDuel: $8,100/DraftKings: $5,500

Note: Sam Gaviglio was supposed to start tonight, but he and Miranda switched spots in the rotation.

Miranda has pitched decent as a starter this season for the Mariners. He’s at a price on FD where you’ll probably want to spend up for more upside, but he’s hard to pass up on having some exposure to on DK. Miranda’s only given up two earned runs or less in 11 of 16 starts, and pitched at least fie innings in each of those. Pitchers only have a limited time to take advantage of a Trout-less, Angels lineup. For just $5,500 on DK, we’ll be fine with five innings, two earned runs, and three strikeouts from Miranda. The extra savings in salary will afford paying up for the first pitcher, and/or hitters.
