MLB DFS: Targets for 5/1

It’s a pretty full slate for MLB DFS tonight with 11 games. A new episode of the 60 Feet 6 Inches Fantasy Baseball Podcast dropped last night, so give it a listen!

Lance McCullers (HOU vs. TEX)

Moneyline: -200

Over/Under: 8 1/2

FanDuel: $9,000/DraftKings: $10,700

McCullers has a home matchup against the Rangers, and should always be considered when pitching at home. He gets more strikeouts at home, with a K-rate of 29.9%, versus on the road at 24.2%. The Rangers as a team are in the top half of the majors when it comes to strikeouts, and if McCullers can get a few more than his average, it’ll really help support his salary, especially on DK. Another important note, McCullers has left 87.8% of runners on base, at home, for his career. Even if he does get into some trouble, we should be confident that he can mitigate the damage.

Luis Severino (NYY vs. TOR)

Moneyline: -175

Over/Under: 7.5

FanDuel: $8,500/DraftKings: $8,000

There is an obvious choice for a starting pitcher, but I ‘d like to go over some of the others that are in good spots. Severino’s put together a nice string of starts after a rocky first one. The Blue Jays still haven’t turned things around offensively as a team, so it’s not far fetched to think that Severino can keep them tame. He’s capable of getting double-digit strikeouts, and the Blue Jays have a K-rate of 23.1% (top seven in the majors). The Blue Jays’ left-handed bats aren’t threatening, so I’m not afraid of them taking advantage of the short right porch in Yankee Stadium.

Other pitchers to target:

Clayton Kershaw (LAD vs. SF) FanDuel: $12,600/DraftKings: $13,900

Michael Wacha (STL vs. MIL) FanDuel: $8,000/DraftKings: $7,200

Freddie Freeman (ATL vs. NYM)

FanDuel: $4,600 (1B)/DraftKings: $4,600 (1B)

Freeman’s starting the season looking like he’s having a career year. The Braves offense came alive over the weekend, but even when they aren’t, Freeman has still been consistent. They face the Mets at home for this series, and Robert Gsellman gets the start. Gsellman has not been what we seen last season, and it doesn’t look like it’ll turn around soon. He got tagged for six runs, while only striking out two in four innings in his last start, which just so happened to be against the Braves. The Braves could make for a sneaky stack, with Freeman leading the way.

Josh Harrison (PIT @ CIN)

FanDuel: $2,900 (2B)/DraftKings: $3,900 (2B/3B)

Harrison looks to have secured the leadoff spot without Starling Marte in the lineup. He’s affordable on both sites, and gets a nice park boost with the Pirates playing this series at the Great American Ball Park. For those reasons, he should be strongly considered for the second base position on your roster. He doesn’t take a lot of walks, so we’re hoping Harrison can put the bat on the ball against Scott Feldman. Feldman has slight reverse splits, with RHHs having a slugging percentage of .430 against him, as opposed to LHHs at .402.

Francisco Lindor (CLE @ DET)

FanDuel: $4,000 (SS)/DraftKings: $4,300 (SS)

Lindor has been easy to rely on, and rarely puts up a zero on the board. The Tigers are sending LHP, Daniel Norris to the mound in Detroit. Lindor hits both handedness of pitcher very well, so him batting from the right side isn’t a problem. There are other big right-handed bats in the Indians’ lineup, so Norris could be in for a tough night.

Kris Bryant (CHC vs. PHI)

FanDuel: $4,300 (3B)/DraftKings: $5,000 (3B)

The Cubs offense could be in for a huge game tonight, so don’t forget to make room for Bryant. The run total for this game is currently at 10 1/2, which looks like a Coors Field total. Bryant currently has a 10-game hitting streak. He has only hit two homeruns during this span, but that could change tonight. He’s certainly on a roll, and can keep it up with the help of mother nature. The wind and weather are playing a factor, so a game stack is definitely in play.

Thank you for reading, and good luck with your picks!
