Week 13 Two-Start Pitcher Rankings

Week 13 Two-Start Pitcher Rankings are once again headlined by some dynamic aces including two Chicago Cubs, Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester. Some may have concern with Arrieta after two 5 inning outings in his last four but I have little. He is still the dominant starter we have seen all season. Both matchups come on the road against strikeout prone teams. The Mets bats have struggled of late and that shouldn’t change this week against Arrieta.

This week also provides opportunities for young guns like Julio Urias, Blake Snell and Jon Gray. There are some real minefields to navigate for Gray and Snell especially. They are worth the risk if you need to use them but proceed with caution.

Royals Danny Duffy

John Sleezer – McClatchy-Tribune

Danny Duffy | Kansas City Royals
(45% Owned in Yahoo)

Danny Duffy enters Week 13 with a ton of potential. He has 37 strikeouts and 9 walks in the month of June. Duffy is averaging 2.2 earned runs per outing which is great to see for streaming pitchers. The danger of a awful outing is seemingly limited. This week he faces two of the poorest teams in OPS against left handed pitching with the St. Louis Cardinals ranking 27th and the Philadelphia Phillies sitting at 29th. The Cardinals are 12th in strikeouts against left handed pitching. The Phillies are near the bottom against lefties but should strike out enough to give Duffy another nice outing. He should have a nice two-start week.

Daniel Mengden | Oakland Athletics
(16% Owned in Yahoo)

Daniel Mengden is a name my podcast partner Damian Dabrowski brought to my attention. He has been really solid since joining the rotation averaging two earned runs in his three outings. His strikeout totals have been nice with seven per outing with only six total walks over the three starts. He stays in the Bay Area for both starts this week which should be helpful for his fly ball lean. He first faces off against the San Francisco Giants and returns home for a matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates are second in the majors with strikeouts against right handed pitching. The Giants ballpark is advantageous for pitchers and will face a depleted Giants lineup without Hunter Pence, Matt Duffy, and potential other key hitters. Mengden’s ownership should rise for this week. Get on board before it is too late.

Robbie Ray | Arizona Diamondbacks
(13% Owned in Yahoo)

Robbie Ray is another lefty that will get to take advantage of a Phillies team that struggles against left handed pitching. He also gets to face a San Francisco Giants squad that doesn’t crush lefties themselves. They are 19th in OPS against lefties and strike out the fifth most of any MLB team.Outside of three poor outings against Tampa Bay, San Diego, and Toronto Ray has been really strong. Those teams are three of the top 15 teams in OPS against lefties. The Padres and Rays are both in the top six. Look for two really strong outings from Ray this week and is absolutely worth an add if you have room.
