2016 ROOKIE IDP (CB/S) RANKINGS
-
Updated: June 14, 2016

Now is the time to stockpile DB’s (won’t hear that often) but with if your 2016 rookie IDP draft is 6-8 rounds deep, you could be getting solid value with those picks. I believe this DB class will be very productive, a bunch of them sooner than later – you’ll thank me later.
| RANK | PLAYER | TEAM | QUICK HITS |
KARL JOSEPH | OAK | both Neal & Joseph are worth that late 2nd/early 3rd – production right out the gate, lot of upside with Karl in OAK, Woodson left alot of tackles on the field to be taken
KEANU NEAL | ATL | going to be a stud sooner than later unless Neal learned from Matt Elam then ATL is in trouble
SU’A CRAVENS | WAS | Redskins are lining him up at WLB right now, doesnt have a pure position, but will need his playmaking & speed on the field. Gives WAS a hybrid blitzer too, intrigued to see the development on Su’a as we near camp.
DARIAN THOMPSON | NYG | come week 1 he should be the starting FS for the Giants, big boost. Can become the playmaker on defense that they need, Rolle’s IDP profile in NYG is probable for Darian and he’s an insane value right now in drafts – got him in the 7th one time.
SEAN DAVIS | PIT | should have no problem carving out a role for PIT even if he doesnt start (yet), he’ll become what they thought they had in Shamarko
MILES KILLEBREW | DET | box safety that’ll get some role, behind Bush right now but DET rotated Ihendigbo & Quddus late last season, could take same approach with Killebrew & Bush which would give Killebrew some sneaky value
VONN BELL | NOS | Saints need playmakers on defense in a bad way, Vaccaro hasn’t lived up to expectations yet and Jairus just stealing money from the Saints with that contract so i expect Bell to be on the field a good amount. I think Bell can carve out a DB2 role by mid-season and beyond
JUSTIN SIMMONS | DEN | always around the ball, should take Burton’s vacated snaps as he’ll continue development behind Darian but will be tough to keep off field. I dig his upside, think he can hit top 12 as his ceiling and that’s not too shabby now is it but possibly he’ll be closer to top 20 (which isnt bad neither)
JALEN RAMSEY | JAC | should be a high tackle CB, sorta like Breeland-ish, definitely dig him in CB formats more
MACKENSIE ALEXANDER | MIN | future outside CB for MIN opposite Rhodes, can have Darby-type IDP profile once he gets comfortable in scheme. Can carve up nickel role for now and build up for there, definitely a target in CB required leagues
KEVIN BYARD | TEN | solid IQ, ball skills – will compete for a role but is behind Johnson and Searcy, has shot though because Searcy hasn’t done much (yet) another late round value pick to stash
ELI APPLE | NYG | getting positive feedback in the off-season, although dont see him stealing much time from DRC or Janoris, should become the slot CB and be productive, a CB2 in CB formats
JALEN MILLS | PHI | impressing in off-season so far, has shot to maintain momentum as we head into training camp. Should surprise in Schwartz scheme, def a CB to keep eye on if your draft isnt here yet
VERNON HARGREAVES | TBB | has shot to be a slot CB or work his way into becoming the nickel back, another CB to target in CB formats – think Vernon gonna be productive, looking at Verner Titans type IDP Profile
ERIC MURRAY | KCC | keep eye on Murray, won’t be surprised if he lands a starting spot opposite Peters. Murray can ball and will provide immediate impact, it’ll be a fun battle between Gaines & Murray
TJ GREEN | IND | Colts like his talent but will more than likely treat him like they did Geathers, as a project and bring him in slowly as Green could be the replacement for Adams
KJ DILLON | HOU | i like KJ’s future in HOU, physical SS who could eventually start sooner than later too – can become a versatile DB for HOU as well, line up at slot too.
WILLIAM JACKSON | CIN | not surprised he’s impressive so far, arguably one of the better cover corners in the draft. Should compete for nickel duties, future outside
ZACH SANCHEZ | CAR | Panthers found their Norman replacement, Sanchez is a sleeper cover corner and should step right in as their slot CB for now
JUSTIN BURRIS | NYJ | he’ll be competing for dime packages as he’s behind Revis, Williams and Skrine and should have no problem beating out his competition (Wilson)
MARQUI CHRISTIAN | ARI | Cardinals picked up another hybrid-safety – he’ll play in the box, can drop back into coverage and is instinctive & quick, could even fill in for Mathieu short term if Mathieu isn’t up to speed yet. I’m intrigued by Marqui’s upside, wanted to get him a little higher here but there’s also some impressive depth in ARI he’ll have to battle up.
JAYRON KEARSE | MIN | big safety who’ll have his work cut out for him, will compete for some snaps but probably do more work on ST for now, has a bright future in MIN especially if Sendejo & Griffin dont work out.
KAVON FRAZIER | DAL | not going to take Byron Jones spot (FS) as Frazier is more free roam so he’ll be at the very least Church’s backup and future replacement, Frazier flies around the field going to be intrguing watchin him.
CYRUS JONES | NEP | pretty solid against the run, should see some time in nickel/dime packages.
XAVIEN HOWARD | MIA | bright future in MIA, will be a developmental project in ’16
WILL REDMOND | SF | may surprise and take a starting spot, SF needs help in the secondary
