Felix Hernandez (SEA vs. MIN)
Moneyline: -240
Over/Under: 7 1/2
FanDuel: $11,100/DraftKings: $11,900
The Twins have been bad and the Mariners are leading in the AL West. Hernandez has been pitching much better as of late. For the season, Hernandez is only giving up 0.79 HR/9 and pitching at home will help keep that at a low rate. The Twins this season have scored the third least runs in the league and sixth most in strikeout rate at 23.3%.
Julio Urias (LAD @ NYM)
Moneyline: -105
Over/Under: 7
FanDuel: $6,900/DraftKings: $7,600
He’s not old enough to legally drink, but Urias is getting the start tonight for the Dodgers against the Mets. Overnight, the moneyline started at +110 and is currently at -105. This game has the lowest run total of the night at seven, and the dual between Urias and Jacob deGrom should be a good one.
Other pitchers to consider: Max Scherzer (WAS vs. STL), Cole Hamels (TEX vs. PIT), and Michael Fullmer (DET @ OAK).
Catchers
Buster Posey (SF @ COL)
FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $5,300
Posey has been underwhelming this season but a Coors Field game might be the perfect cure. For his career, Posey has accumulated nine home runs, 34 RBIs, with a .618 slugging percentage, and 1.067 OPS at Coors Field.
Derek Norris (SD @ ARI)
FanDuel: $2,200/DraftKings: $3,100
Chase Field is a hitter’s park too, and if you need to punt a position you can do it here with Norris on FanDuel. He’ll have a positive park shift and the platoon against Robbie Ray.
Other catchers: Welington Castillo (ARI vs. SD), and Jonathan Lucroy (MIL vs. CIN).
First base
Paul Goldschmidt (ARI vs. SD)
FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $5,500
Goldschmidt has had a rough go of it this season, and if you want to fade the Coors Field game, you can look to him, especially on FanDuel. Things should start turning around and this weekend series, at home, against the Padres might be it.
Chris Carter (MIL vs. CIN)
FanDuel: $3,200/DraftKings: $3,900
Carter hasn’t had many zeroes on the board in terms of fantasy points lately, and has a positive matchup against southpaw, John Lamb. Right-handed bats give Lamb a lot more trouble and for the season he’s give up a .500 slugging percentage, .371 wOBA, and 1.29 HR/9. Overall, Carter has been hitting better with a .242 batting average, .558 slugging percentage, and .356 wOBA.
Other first basemen to consider: Miguel Cabrera (DET @ OAK), and Justin Smoak (TOR vs. BOS).
Second base
Ian Kinsler (DET @ OAK)
FanDuel: $4,100/DraftKings: $4,900
Kinsler will have the platoon against A’s southpaw, Sean Manaea. He’s been out for a couple of games but he should come back healthy and might not be an obvious target for the position, so Kinsler can be a way to differentiate your lineup.
Joe Panik (SF @ COL)
FanDuel: $3,400/DraftKings: $4,900
Panik may just be my top target at the position because of his price and ball park factor. He’s very rosterable on FanDuel and is a cheaper option to consider if you want exposure to the Coors Field game. Panik will have the platoon against Tyler Chatwood, and should be batting second in the order which is nice for getting one or two extra at-bats in a high scoring game.
Other second basemen to consider: Jason Kipnis (CLE vs. BAL), and Brandon Phillips (CIN @ MIL).
Third base
Adrian Beltre (TEX vs. PIT)
FanDuel: $3,400/DraftKings: $4,600
Beltre seems to be at a friendly price most of the time on FanDuel, and the Rangers matchup against Jonathon Niese is one of my favorites of the night. Niese will have a negative park shift and the Rangers are able to fill their lineup with right-handed bats.
Todd Frazier (CWS @ KC)
FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $4,200
What Frazier is capable of doing with is bat is known, and I like his matchup against Danny Duffy, especially with his price on DraftKings. The game is at Kauffman Stadium, but hitters can hit home runs there and that’s what Frazier does best. For his career against right-handed bats, Duffy is giving up 1.05 HR/9, 10.5 walk percentage, and .420 slugging percentage.
Other third basemen to consider: Justin Turner (LAD @ NYM), Nolan Arenado (COL vs. SF), and Nick Castellanos (DET @ OAK).
Shortstop
Trevor Story (COL vs. SF)
FanDuel: $4,200/DraftKings: $5,400
Story is definitely more affordable on FanDuel tonight. He hasn’t been hitting home runs everyday, but the Rockies are returning to Coors Field and are facing Matt Cain. Cain’s career is on the decline and as expected, his numbers at Coors Field are less than desirable.
Brad Miller (TB vs. NYY)
FanDuel: $2,900/DraftKings: $3,200
If you’re looking for a cheaper option, Miller can be a target if you need the salary relief. He has much better numbers from the right side of the plate and he’ll having the platoon tonight against Masahiro Tanaka. A home run is not what you should expect from Miller, but with the short porch in right field, some pop in his bat, and Tanaka being prone to giving up a few, we may get to see one tonight.
Other shortstops to consider: Brandon Crawford (SF @ COL), and Jonathan Villar (MIL vs. CIN).
Outfield
Nelson Cruz (SEA vs. MIN)
FanDuel: $4,500/DraftKings: $4,800
Cruz and the Mariners are facing southpaw, Pat Dean. This will be just his second start of the season and it’s possible that the Mariners can turn this into a bullpen game early. Cruz is always worth a look when he has the platoon. In his career, Cruz has a .550 slugging percentage, .250 ISO, and .925 OPS against southpaws.
Jayson Werth (WAS vs. STL)
FanDuel: $2,900/DraftKings: $4,000
With the drastic difference in price, Werth can be a lower cost target on FanDuel. The Nationals are going up against Jaime Garcia, who has been a bit shaky this season. Garcia is a much better pitcher against left-handed bats and Werth has the platoon here with nice home run potential.
Ryan Rua (TEX vs. PIT)
FanDuel: $2,400/DraftKings: $3,300
For an even lower cost target, Rua is a nice play for his price. Like Beltre, I like this platoon matchup against Niese and he does have power potential to get you the fantasy points you need even if he bats lower in the order.
Other outfielders to consider: Carlos Gonzalez (COL vs. SF), Ian Desmond (TEX vs. PIT), Franklin Gutierrez (SEA vs. MIN), Gerardo Parra (COL vs. SF), Matt Kemp (SD @ ARI), and Jarrett Parker (SF @ COL).
