MLB DFS: Targets for 4/26
-
Updated: April 26, 2016

Paying up for Noah Syndergaard didn’t work out as we hoped but we have another crack at it tonight. MLB DFS targets for tonight’s slate include more high-priced pitchers and hitters, with some ideas for value plays.

Clayton Kershaw (LAD, vs. MIA)
Moneyline: -300
Over/Under: 6.5
FanDuel: $13,000/DraftKings: $13,800
Not much explanation needed here. Last start, Kershaw did give up 10 hits to the Braves while striking out 10. The Marlins are a team that doesn’t strikeout much but Kershaw can still work his magic on them. Because of his price point, Kershaw might be better suited as a GPP play if you can make it work.
Max Scherzer (WAS vs. PHI)
Moneyline: -195
Over/Under: 7
FanDuel: $10,500/DraftKings: $12,900
There are a lot of low run totals on this slate and this is another one. Easier to roster on FanDuel, Scherzer is a really strong target tonight. His pitching opponent, Vincent Velasquez has reverse spilts, which will allow the Nationals’ righty batters to provide offensive support for Scherzer.
David Price (BOS @ ATL)
Moneyline: -187
Over/Under: 7
FanDuel: $9,400/DraftKings: $11,400
Overnight, the moneyline moved in favor of Red Sox, from -175 to -187. The Braves as a team are not good against southpaws and have been lacking power. Price should be a safe play and if he can get the same results as Kershaw, it’s a good option for saving some salary and spending a little more on hitting instead.
Dallas Keuchel (HOU @ SEA)
Moneyline: -135
Over/Under: 7
FanDuel: $10,100/DraftKings: $10,300
Many are scared off by Keuchel’s last start and he has not been as dominant on the road. He’s pitching at Safeco Field tonight against a lineup with lefty hitters. If you’re not comfortable with rostering Keuchel in cash games, he’s can be in consideration for tournaments.
Other pitchers to consider: Edinson Volquez (KC @ LAA), Rich Hill (OAK @ DET), and Kyle Hendricks (CHI vs. MIL).
Catchers
Yasmani Grandal (LAD vs. MIA)
FanDuel: $3,000/DraftKings: $3,100
With a run total of just 6.5, the Dodgers look to provide most of the offense in the game with Kershaw on the hill. Grandal is much better from the left side of the plate, and we have the platoon here with Tom Koehler pitching for the Marlins, who is has not had a good start to the season.
Nick Hundley (COL vs. PIT)
FanDuel: $3,300/DraftKings: $3,300
I’m not sure if Hundley will play back-to-back games after coming back from the disabled list, but he is a cheaper Coors Field option if you want exposure to that game.
Other catchers to consider: Dioner Navarro (CHW @ TOR), and Wilson Ramos (WAS vs. PHI).
First base
Jose Abreu (CHW @ TOR)
FanDuel: $3,000/DraftKings: $4,000
Abreu is an excellent knuckleball hitter and the White Sox face R.A. Dickey tonight. The start of his season has not been good, but this might be the matchup he needs to get his bat going. Some other White Sox hitters are also interesting in this game at Rogers Centre.
Brandon Moss (STL @ ARI)
Fanduel; $2,800/DraftKings: $3,300
A value play here with Moss, you should consider him with the platoon and park factor at Chase Field against Shelby Miller. Moss has significantly better numbers against right-handed pitchers in the slugging percentage, ISO, and wOBA departments, while Miller struggles more against left-handed hitters.
Other first basemen to consider: Anthony Rizzo (CHC vs. MIL), and Miguel Cabrera (DET vs. OAK).
Second base
Jason Kipnis (CLE @ MIN)
FanDuel: $3,300/DraftKings: $4,100
Nicely priced on both sites, Kipnis is a really good play if you don’t want to spend at the position. We have the platoon here and as you would expect, Kipnis is better from the left side of the plate against right-handed pitchers. Ricky Nolasco gives up a little over one home run to lefties as well as more walks. Kipnis definitely has power to take him deep, or should at least be able to get on base for scoring opportunties.
Kolten Wong (STL @ ARI)
FanDuel: $2,500/DraftKings: $3,800
Wong is priced pretty low on FanDuel and I like him here if he leads off against Shelby Miller. There were lots of runs scored here yesterday, and there’s a chance we see more of the same from the Cardinals offense.
Other second basemen to consider: Scooter Gennett (MIL @ CHC), and Daniel Murphy (WAS vs. PHI).
Third base
Adonis Garcia (ATL vs. BOS)
FanDuel: $2,300/DraftKings: $3,100
Garcia swings hard and has really good numbers against left-handers. He could be the value play you’re looking for and is batting third in the lineup tonight.
Anthony Rendon (WAS vs. PHI)
FanDuel: $2,700/DraftKings: $3,400
With opposing pitcher, Vincent Velasquez, having reverse splits, Rendon is another value target at third base. If he’s hitting second in the batting order, you like his upside with Bryce Harper hitting behind him.
Other third basemen to consider: Nolan Arenado (COL vs. PIT), and Danny Valencia (OAK @ DET).
Shortstop
Jordy Mercer (PIT @ COL)
FanDuel: $3,500/DraftKings: $4,000
Another cheaper Coors Field option, Mercer has the platoon and overall has been performing well this season.
Corey Seager (LAD vs. MIA)
FanDuel: $4,300/DraftKings: $4,100
An option to pay up at the position, Seager is in line to have a fine game against Koehler. If you’re stacking lefties from the Dodgers, be sure to also include Seager.
Other shortstops to consider: Francisco Lindor (CLE @ MIN), and Troy Tulowitzki (TOR vs. CHW).
Outfield
Khris Davis (OAK @ DET)
FanDuel: $2,700/DraftKings: $3,400
Davis has been hitting better within the last week and the A’s will be looking to pour it on against Tigers pitcher, Mike Pelfrey. Pelfrey has three losses on the season and has given up more than one hit per inning in those starts. A’s batters could be a sneaky stack against the Tigers, and Davis can help with salary relief.
Carlos Gonzalez (COL vs. PIT)
FanDuel: $4,000/DraftKings: $5,000
Gonzalez appears to be underpriced today on FanDuel and may be highly owned. Hopefully, there won’t be any weather concerns and the Rockies can pick up offensively against Gerrit Cole.
Jayson Werth (WAS vs. PHI)
FanDuel: $3,100/DraftKings: $3,400
Werth has a chance to display some power here against Velasquez. In the last week, Werth has put together a few nice fantasy days with a couple of home runs as well. Tonight, he has another chance at that in a favorable match up.
Other outfielders to consider: Dexter Fowler (CHC vs. MIL), Giancarlo Stanton (MIA @ LAD), Bryce Harper (WAS vs. PHI), and David Peralta (ARI vs. STL).
Thank you for reading, and good luck with your picks!
