Defense Against the Position by Teams Part 3

Defense against the position is abbreviated DAPs. The DAP concept suggests that teams playing these easy teams will score many FP etc. The opposite is the stricter team defenses of NE, SF, PIT, BUF, CHI, LAC, PHI, NO, LAR and DEN. Playing these teams should result in lower FP scoring. To me, DAPs is an excellent way to a tie-break in drafts, and a way to set up your lineups and DFS plays in a season.

Breaking the Analysis Process in Two**

I suggest in fantasy football, the best practices approach is to break the data analysis process into two distinct steps:

1. Exploration – after data has been prepared, you “explore” the data to see what parts of it will help reveal the answers you seek. You can also explore various hypotheses. One could even think of it as a data refinement or narrowing process.

The reason why I present tables and graphs is to optimize my readers is to inspire their exploration! See above

2. Discovery – once you know what data helps you find the answer, you dig deep into the data to identify the specific items that reveal the answers and find ways to show those answers to the business teams.

The reason why I present multiple levels of data landscapes from a top-down approach is to nudge my readers toward more discoveries in fantasy football informatics.

Team Positional DAPs by Week

The defense against the position. Each Table focuses on Team DAP Metrics

  • Week
  • Team
  • Season Segement Early, Late, or Playoffs
  • Opponent with Opponent’s DST Strength Noted by Easy to Hard (green to red)
  • Home vs Away Game
  • Rushing, Passing, and Receiving Opponent DAP Extremes (Easy vs Tough)
  • OFF, RB, QB, WR, TE, K and DST DAPS (green is easy hot spot vs. red tough hot spot)

These are a useful reference for decision making in drafts and in-season. I think these metrics clarify tough choices.

The Defense Against the Position: Season Segments vs. Positional DAPs

The defense against the position.  Firstly, these next 3 tables are a reference for your decisions as they focus us on the Highs and Lows within each position in the seasonal segments. Additionally, I look for passing synergy in the DAPs. I define that as when passing and receiving are easy or hard. Note those situations. For example, in the early weeks,’ DAL QBs, TEs, and RBs are favored for an easy time.

Early Weeks 1 to 7

  • QBs Easy: DAL JAX, GB, CHI, and CAR
  • WRs Easy: GB, CHI, JAX, NO, and LAC
  • TEs Easy: DAL, WAS, SEA, CAR, and NE
  • RBs Easy: IND, JAX, DAL, ATL, BAL, CHI, and ARI

Late Weeks 8 to 13

  • QBs Easy : WAS, MIA, CIN, LAR, CLE, NYJ, DEN,NYG, CAR, PHI, and PIT
  • WRs Easy: CAR, CHI, MIA, NE, LAR, CIN, WAS, NYG, and IND
  • TEs Easy: PHI, LAR, CIN, WAS, NYJ, BAL, BUF, SEA, and MIA
  • RBs Easy: MIN, PIT, DET, PHI, CLE, HOU, CIN, IND, and TB

Playoffs

  • QBs Easy : SF, BAL, KC, PHI, LAC, TB, NYG, TEN, GB, IND, and SEA
  • WRs Easy: TB, GB, CLE, TEN, KC, SEA, CHI, and DET
  • TEs Easy: SF, PHI, NYG, NYJ, MIA, CIN, LAC, CAR, DET, BAL, and IND
  • RBs Easy: BAL, GB, TEN, DEN, SF, CHI
