Fantasy Baseball: Early points relief pitcher rankings
-
Updated: February 16, 2018

Putting together the points relief pitcher rankings has some interesting twists to roto leagues. Exactly how you approach the position depends a lot on your league settings. In leagues where saves are well rewarded you still want the closers but the more saves are marginalised the more other relievers (Andrew Miller) and starting pitchers come into the equation here. In roto leagues you aren’t really looking to draft anyone relief eligible who doesn’t offer saves and the starting pitcher eligible players do not really have any effect in that format.

The only free agent of note currently is Greg Holland and it’s looking less and less likely he will come in and be a closer from the outset. Points leagues are his most draftable format right now but if he does find a job where he can close then he will gain roto ranking positions as well.
Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game >
As always these rankings and tiers are based on ESPN eligibility and should be adjusted based on your leagues scoring and the nuances that brings to how each league values different guys. The scoring I have used here is 3 points per innings pitched, 4 points per win, -1 for a loss, 1 for a strikeout, -1 for a walk or a hit, -2 for an earned run and 5 for a save.
