Fantasy Baseball: Early roto second base rankings
-
Updated: January 12, 2018

When it comes to second base rankings it feels as though we have had a shift from the last few years. The position tended to be made up of two or three standouts at the top and then some big middling tiers. Now what we have is one player who stands so far above the rest that it’s basically a different world for him compared to the others. Then we enter into some interesting tiers where it’s about trying to balance upside and safety on draft day. As is often the case with a couple of positions every year it will come down to strategy; if you target speed with this position then there will be some clear options but equally second base now has enough guys with serious power that you could easily find a 20+ home run player in your middle infield and look for speed from your SS or OF positions. I can seriously talk myself into a situation where I could start any of the 20 guys listed in this article if I can manage to build other aspects of my team right and that’s what makes this such an interesting position.
Free agent wise we have a handful of players who could have an effect on the rankings. Eduardo Nunez creeps into 20th spot because he has duel threat ability but we also have Brandon Philips, Neil Walker and even Jose Reyes who could play a part for fantasy teams in stretches this season. Realistically it is probably only Nunez you are drafting out of those guys even if they all have jobs on opening day but it wouldn’t shock me to see the others starting for fantasy teams either.
Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game >
