IDP/OFF ROOKIE DRAFT MOCK – Part One (Picks 1-36)
-
Updated: March 14, 2017

That sound you hear is the sound of the 2017 Fantasy Football starting; it’s draft season baby! Many of us are already doing rookie drafts, dynasty start-ups and mocking here and there. But, if you’re like a few of us who are patiently waiting for our leagues rookie draft to start a week or two after the NFL Draft ends and have no idea where certain players (IDP’s especially) might just go – this is where I help (sorta).
I’ve gone ahead and done a six round rookie mock draft for a 12-team league; it could potentially help you when it’s your draft or this will be a complete waste because certain owners value certain players a different way – and that’s fine, look at this as potential alternatives IF you miss out on someone you’ve targeted. Also, this is how or who I’d take (right now) if I owned this certain pick in a draft – I value players differently from the masses alas I helped you grab guys like Kwon Alexander & Danielle Hunter.
Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game >
First up I’ll post the first 3 rounds of this rookie mock with some of my thoughts on some picks, I’ll post the IDP scoring system I have used for this mock as well.
IDP scoring system: (solos: 1.50) (assisted: .50) (sacks: 4.0) (TFL: 1.50) (INT: 5) (PD: 3) (FF: 3) (FR: 2)
| 1.01 | COREY DAVIS | WR |
| 1.02 | LEONARD FOURNETTE | RB |
| 1.03 | DALVIN COOK | RB |
| 1.04 | CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY | RB |
| 1.05 | JOE MIXON | RB |
| 1.06 | MIKE WILLIAMS | WR |
| 1.07 | CARLOS HENDERSON | WR |
| 1.08 | TAYWAN TAYLOR | WR |
| 1.09 | JUJU SMITH-SCHUSTER | WR |
| 1.10 | ZAY JONES | WR |
| 1.11 | SAMAJE PERINE | RB |
| 1.12 | CHRIS GODWIN | WR |
Takeaways: If I owned the 1.01 right now, there’s no doubt I’m taking the electrifying WR in Corey Davis. An argument can be made for any of the RB’s as well; so it’ll get interesting once we find out what team these guys are headed too. You could probably shuffle the bottom half of this draft, pretty much personal preference but I’m a solid Henderson fan so I’d be targeting him if I don’t end up with Davis or Williams.
| 2.01 | D’ONTA FOREMAN | RB |
| 2.02 | OJ HOWARD | TE |
| 2.03 | EVAN ENGRAM | TE |
| 2.04 | JOHN ROSS | WR |
| 2.05 | JAMES CONNER | RB |
| 2.06 | CURTIS SAMUEL | WR |
| 2.07 | KD CANNON | WR |
| 2.08 | MALACHI DUPRE | WR |
| 2.09 | DAVID NJOKU | TE |
| 2.10 | JEREMY MCNICHOLS | RB |
| 2.11 | RUEBEN FOSTER | LB |
| 2.12 | RAEKWON MCMILLAN | LB |
Takeaways: The depth at offense continues to dominate here, but here we have the first IDP’s flying off the board at 2.11 and 2.12. If you’ve been in drafts like me; we’re used too seeing at least the top LB in the draft go somewhere in the top of the second – not so much this year as much as I dig Foster & McMillan. It’ll be hard to pass up one of the TE’s in arguably one of the most gifted TE classes we’ve had in a while, especially in TE premium leagues.
Lot of upside with the WR’s here, Cannon is the big game – explosive WR and I wouldn’t be surprised if I see him get taken in the late 1st – early 2nd range. Dupre is underrated, solid physical WR and Foreman reminds me of Jonathan Stewart. Foster may fall in the draft and land in an even better situation but same goes for McMillan on landing spot; but some may say that’s probably high for McMillan – I disagree as he’s going to be productive (esp if he gets a starting spot). If you don’t NEED the LB’s though, as you can see you can wait and grab another solid one later.
| 3.01 | ISAIAH FORD | WR |
| 3.02 | ZACH CUNNINGHAM | LB |
| 3.03 | ALVIN KAMARA | RB |
| 3.04 | MARLON MACK | RB |
| 3.05 | MYLES GARRETT | DE/OLB |
| 3.06 | KAREEM HUNT | RB |
| 3.07 | JOSH MALONE | WR |
| 3.08 | HAASON REDDICK | LB |
| 3.09 | JAMAAL WILLIAMS | RB |
| 3.10 | SOLOMON THOMAS | DL |
| 3.11 | WAYNE GALLAM | RB |
| 3.12 | JAMAL ADAMS | DB |
Takeaways: More IDP’s start coming off the board in the third; rightfully so. This is where you’ll own the draft in stocking up on IDP’s. Even in this scoring setting; you could potentially wait until the 3rd to get Garrett (Bosa was flying off the board in early 2nd last year) and if you value Garrett like Bosa then take that chance of taking him with your 2nd instead. I think even if you bypass Garrett and end up with Solomon in the late 3rd you’ll be in fine shape; Thomas is a beast in his own right and I have no doubts about him being productive out the gate. If you pass on Foster/McMillan – there’s Cunningham and Reddick waiting for you, Reddick could become somewhat version of Jamie Collins and Cunningham could become a Daryl Washington-type LB without the trouble.
I could see Jamal Adams get taken somewhere near the top of the 3rd BUT this is where I feel comfortable taking Jamal regardless how much I’m a fan of him – lot of other value to be had elsewhere. There’s a bunch of RB depth to be had in the 3rd as well, if I can end up with either of these RB’s in the 3rd then I’ll take my IDP in the 2nd – know what I mean.
There we have it folks, as you can see there’s a ton of offensive targets this year but you can definitely squeeze in those IDP’s and get the guy you want. If you missed out on a DL/OLB in the early rounds – don’t you worry there’s a bunch of value to be had coming up in the latter part of the draft. As always feel free to shoot some questions over on my twitter @IDPwithBEE_8o8 or post a comment here and I’ll respond in a timely manner.
Aloha
