Horny Goat Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter
-
Updated: February 14, 2017

I was instantly attracted to this beer for two reasons… the company is called Horny Goat and I’m a 30-year old man child and Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter sounds like Willy Wonka and his drunk best friend decided to get into the brewing business.
So I cracked open a 12oz can of Horny Goat Chocolate Peanut Butter Porter, took a sniff and thought I was about to engage in a rich Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. You could instantly smell a sweet chocolate aroma, the peanut butter scents would soon follow.

The beer had a dark body with a real thick head. This surprised me, I figured the peanut oil would kill any head retention. I looked into it and it seems most pours from this beer all have a similar large head.
With the sweet chocolate scent urging me to start drinking I take my fist sip and my tongue is instantly surrounded by a crisp, smooth, chocolate flavor, but the peanut butter seems to be missing. It’s not till I get to my third or fourth sip that I’m really starting to taste the peanut butter, but by then we’ve hit a speed bump.
As delicious as the first half of this is, by the time we’ve reach intermission my taste buds are being assaulted with a pretty off putting aftertaste. The bitterness has started to really take over, and a part of me actually questions if I want to even finish the beer. Naturally I do, because who waste beer like that.
I was 100% looking for a liquid peanut butter cup and got a bitter chocolate peanut butter/hazelnut combo. The aroma will definitely trick you, as it might be this beer’s best feature. If you plan to have one of these beers as a dessert drink then I’d give it a shot, but by no means would I sit back with a six pack.
