NBA DFS: Targets for 1/18

With the NFL season winding down, why not try NBA DFS? Do you need something to hold you over until baseball season starts? Basketball has a similar daily grind to get you ready for Opening Day! Or maybe you’re already in the thick of it with NBA DFS and are looking for an article with a slightly different look and perspective? This is a good place to start.

Last night was a mad scramble with the news of Kyle Lowry being out. That leads to the possibility of DeMar DeRozan and/or DeMarre Carroll sitting out tonight against the 76ers. If so, are you ready for your pivots? With such high scores last night, we could see more of the same again, especially if value opens up for tonight’s 9-game slate.

Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game >

The Plays

Kyle Lowry (TOR @ PHI)

  • FanDuel: $8,800 (PG)
  • DraftKings: $8,500 (PG)

It’s a homecoming narrative with Lowry tonight, but that’s not where my interest lies. As mentioned earlier, the Raptors sitting a player or two could be a possibility. I would prefer Lowry more in that situation. He has a usage rate of 26% on the road this season, as opposed to 22.5% at home. With a handful of other PG options at higher salaries on both sites, Lowry can still be a fine play with the Raptors’ starting lineup in tact since the 76ers are a team that can keep games competitive.

Elfrid Payton (ORL @ NO)

  • FanDuel: $6,200 (PG)
  • DraftKings: $6,200 (PG)

We’re still waiting on injury news on Evan Fournier, but I really like Payton either way. The game total is currently at 210, which is not as high as several other games on tonight’s slate and players in this matchup could go overlooked. I really like the Magic tonight, probably a little too much so I’m narrowing down who I like best, and we’ll get to another one in a bit.

Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL @ HOU)

  • FanDuel: $10,600 (SG)
  • DraftKings: $10,400 (PG/SF)

On both sites, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Anthony Davis, and DeMarcus Cousins, all have higher salaries than ABC (Giannis’ nickname for those who don’t know, because let’s be honest, who wants to spell out that last name?). My feeling right now is that you don’t have to roster those four, when ABC should be perfectly adequate in a game with a total of 226. ABC has over 1.4 points per minute in the last two games, with game totals of 209 and 217. His price has slowly crept up and many will look at his game log and think that he won’t be a good play with the other options available to spend up on, although, I beg to differ.

Kevin Durant (GSW vs. OKC)

  • FanDuel: $10,400 (SF)
  • DraftKings: $9,900 (SF)

If you’re not paying for the five mentioned just above, then Durant has to be in discussion. There’s the rivalry between his former team and teammate to consider but all that aside, he does make for a fine play. At $500 less on DK, I prefer rostering him there with the double-double, and triple-double bonus. Durant had seen a little more than five minutes in the fourth quarter in their last meeting at home even though it was a blowout.

Mindaugas Kuzminskas (NYK @ BOS)

  • FanDuel: $3,900 (SF)
  • DraftKings: $4,300 (SF)

Kuzminskas has be a beneficiary of Kristaps Porzingis being out, and for his price, I really like him as a value option tonight. This is another game with a high projected total of 221.5, and as long as he sees the minutes, Kuzminskas should be able to reach value and then some. Most of his fantasy points come from raw points, but we’re seeing more rebounds from him. The Knicks as a team are third in the NBA in rebounds per game, which is encouraging for Kuzsminskas’ rebound opportunities.

Ersan Ilyasova (PHI vs. TOR)

  • FanDuel: $5,800 (PF)
  • DraftKings: $5,400 (PF)

Ilyasova, with or without Joel Embiid is a lower salary target of mine against a Raptors team that could be without Lucas Nogueira. Jonas Valanciunas had an extremely underwhelming performance last night and Ilyasova should be able to reach value as long as he plays at least 28 minutes. With a projected game total of 215, this is a great game to target as long as we get the news we need before lock.

Nikola Vucevic (ORL @ NO)

  • FanDuel: $7,200 (C)
  • DraftKings: $6,600 (C)

We just got word that Bismack Biyombo will play tonight, but that shouldn’t scare you off of Vucevic. Dating back to December 16th, Vucevic didn’t start in 12 straight games, yet had played at least 25 minutes in all of them, with five double-doubles in that span.
