Value Up-Value Down: Week 2

by Ricky Sanders On September 12, 2013

We spent all week preparing for Sunday. Finally the magical day came and went (then so did Monday). In all honesty, it was absolutely worth the wait! The NFL was just as crazy as I remember: the Raiders, Bills and Chargers all almost pulled off huge upsets. The NFL’s week 1 had more touchdown passes than any week ever in league history. In tune, there was a whole boat load of fantasy goodness to go

Da’Rel Scott Injured in Practice

by Richard Janvrin On September 11, 2013

What in the…. According to Art Stapleton, beat writer for the New York Giants, RB Da’Rel Scott has suffered an apparent knee injury at practice today, but the severity is undisclosed. The Giants recently signed Brandon Jacobs back, leaving their stable of backs with the likes of David Wilson, Michael Cox, the injured Scott and now, Brandon Jacobs. Da’Rel Scott is a fairly impressive talent, but if he is unable to go, the Giants might

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Report: Week 1

by Luke Taylor On September 11, 2013

“You see, in this world there’s two types of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.” Oddly enough, this immortal quote from Clint Eastwood, a.k.a “Blondie”, in “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” also applies to fantasy football. You see, in our fake little world there’s two types of people: those that play IDP and those who don’t. If you find yourself getting all warm and tingly inside

I am pleased to present you with the first installment of a new weekly column here on the www.FakePigskin.com. My name is Andy Singleton, and as a NYC Firefighter it is a strange coincidence that my debut just happens to fall on September 11th. As such, I wish to dedicate this article to the memory of all those lost on 9/11, and I hope you take your own moment of silence at some point today to honor them

For the masses(not really) that listened to the new Tinker Time Podcast with Asher Curzon and myself, I say thank you! Every Sunday morning our podcast will give you the Hot-5 starts at each position and the Cold-5 sits.  Now for the kicker; I am not one of the high-and-mighty “experts” who will ignore you when I was wrong about a start/sit. I’m using this article to either pat myself on the back(hopefully more often than not)

Week 1 NFL Spread Picks

by Aaron Marcotte On September 7, 2013

Betting on week 1 in the NFL is exciting. It is the closest you will get to a “competitive edge” over oddsmakers. They have minimal history to go off and the media isn’t dominantly swaying better’s opinions just yet. With that being said there are still some surprises every year. I don’t think many people saw Denver putting up 49 points on the Super Bowl champions, trouncing them by 22. Each week I will take

AFC South Week One Preview

by Pat Donnelly On September 7, 2013

AFC South Week 1 Preview Tennessee at Pittsburgh I’ll start this preview with the fact that Pittsburgh had the best passing defense and the second best rush defense in terms of yardage last year. They were in the bottom third in the league in terms of both giving up passing and rushing TDs to opposing offenses last year as well. That being said, I really don’t think Jake Locker will have a good game this

Kansas City Chiefs @ Jacksonville Jaguars (Sunday 1.00pm EDT) Alex Smith will begin his Chiefs career against the Jaguars, and should have a reasonable outing this week. Smith is rarely going to be a top 5 QB in fantasy any week, but this week he may dip into the top 12 – not bad for a guy drafted in the late rounds. I expect him to throw for around 200-250 yards and a score or

NFC South Week One Preview

by Pat Donnelly On September 7, 2013

NFC South Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints With the exception of their last match-up, the last few meetings between these two teams has been an offensive shootout of sorts. Not only is this an awesome rivalry, it’s a meeting of 2 powerhouse offenses, with defenses that aren’t good. To top it off, both teams have a chip on their shoulder. Atlanta was 10 yards away from the Super Bowl and New Orleans is still mad

AFC North Week One Preview

by Luke O'Neill On September 7, 2013

While the AFC North is traditionally known for its rugged defenses, this week’s matchups provide some juicy matchups. Here, we go through each team in the division, and explore their top players’ chances in this, the most wonderful week of the year – NFL FOOTBALL IS BACK!!!!!!   BALTIMORE RAVENS at Denver Broncos Joe Flacco Normally, Flacco is an undependable fantasy quarterback, playing his best football during the postseason, which is unfortunately no use to

DALLAS COWBOYS at NEW YORK GIANTS: There’s always a little extra incentive when starting the season against a division rival, and with all hands on deck, other than the possibility of Victor Cruz, this game should provide a good start to your fantasy season. Head coach Jason Garrett has relinquished his play calling duties to offensive coordinator Bill Callahan which means we should see a healthy dose of Cowboy running back DeMarco Murray. The

NFC North Week One Preview

by Luke O'Neill On September 7, 2013

The NFC North has plenty of fantasy football difference makers. Let’s look at how they will perform this week.   Cincinnati Bengals at CHICAGO BEARS   Jay Cutler Much has been made of how new coach Marc Trestman’s will revamp the Bears’ offense this season. Cutler has one of the best arms in the league, but has never quite reached his potential due to frequent poor decision making and (supposedly) questionable attitude. This has led

Arizona Cardinals @ St Louis Rams (Sunday 4.25pm EDT)   Carson Palmer will make his Cardinals debut this week against the Rams in a divisional matchup that will likely be low scoring. Both defences are solid, especially against the pass and neither has a great offence. Palmer should be in line for a QB12-15 display this week, so unless you’re in deep leagues you may want to consider benching him. Rashard Mendenhall is looking likely

NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS at BUFFALO BILLS: The “Patriot Way” rests on the shoulders of some very young and inexperienced players. Tom Brady and his offense have looked schizophrenic in the preseason to say the least. Other than four year receiver Danny Amendola, who is already banged up, and injured star tight end Rob Gronkowski, Brady will be throwing passes to rookie wide outs Kenbrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson and undrafted rookie tight end Zac

Twitter is like the mecca of overreaction. Once NFL cuts are made, that means it’s time for the first release of the regular season depth charts. I have to tell you some people take them so damn seriously. It is kind of amazing to me. Somehow we’ve learned to write off “coach speak” during press conferences. We’ve also realized that the injury report early in the week is a whole bunch of misleading gossip. For

The 2013 Fantasy Football Drafting Season Recap

by Aaron Marcotte On September 6, 2013

The 2013 NFL Pre-Season, aka fantasy draft season, is over and the season is about to start. My excitement level cannot be described through words or the internet for that matter. I feel like I’ve waited an eternity for a meaningful game; although, the pre-season is meaningful in a number of ways. I’ll get to that in a minute. Right now I’d like to analyze my drafts, strategies, players and themes that I’ve seen throughout

Super Sleeper Alert: Marlon Brown

by Richard Janvrin On September 4, 2013

What a story this guy has. Once a top recruit out of Memphis, and the winner of Tennessee’s Mr. Football Award in 2008, Marlon Brown had a very injury plagued and inconsistent career at Georgia. He flew off of teams draft boards due to a torn ACL last November, but the defending Super Bowl champs took a chance and may have struck gold after signing the former Bulldog as an undrafted free agent. For my first installment, I’ll be recapping injuries (fantasy relevant) that occurred in the pre-season, and how that should affect your Week 1 strategies. This first edition

Risers at TE through preseason

by Luke O'Neill On September 1, 2013

As we all know, the tight end position is in a state of flux this season (and could very easily be described in much less polite terms). Instead of spending a high or mid round pick on one of the “big 5″ – Graham, Gronkowski, Witten, Gonzalez, Davis – I’ve been looking for late round TEs to target. Obviously, preseason games don’t necessarily dictate how a player will be utilised during games that matter, but

Josh Gordon will be suspended for the entire season

The year long suspension for Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has been upheld per multiple media reports. The potential for a reduced suspension seemed somewhat realistic with a delay in decision on his appeal. The Browns offense will take a huge hit without him. Owners in dynasty leagues may want to make a move for Gordon who has number one wide receiver upside. The price will never be lower than after with this news.

Brian Hoyer named starter over Johnny Manziel

The Cleveland Browns have named Brain Hoyer their starting quarterback for week one. This may or may not be a shock to everyone. Johnny Manziel will likely start at some point this season. When that it happens depends on how well Hoyer and the Browns do to begin the season. Hoyer helped Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron be fantasy stars last season. Manziel taking over shouldn’t hurt the pass catchers in this offense.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Charles Sims will undergo Surgery

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Charles Sims will undergo surgery on the ankle he injured in practice. Sims is expected to be out for 12-14 weeks. This should be good news for Doug Martin owners, as Sims seemed the likely contender to carries in Tampa Bay. Bobby Rainey, Mike James and Jeff Demps are all vying for carries as well. Sims could be a worth add from the waiver wire depending on how the early part of the season goes.

Marcell Ozuna

Ozuna went 2-4 with two RBI, and a home run. His second game in a row with a HR. Ozuna had been struggling, but it may be possible the struggles are over. He is still producing some good HR numbers, if he can cut down on the strikeouts things could turn around for him.

Chris Sale

Sale came off the DL in a big way Thursday night, throwing six shutout innings with ten strikeouts. Sale had a no- hitter going into the sixth, but with two outs Zolio Almonte singled to center to break it up. According to Sale and manager Robin Ventura, they had discussed before the game that even if Sale had been throwing perfect game he was not pitching more than six innings.

Dallas Keuchel

Keuchel dominated again Monday night against the Angels. Throwing almost his second complete game in consecutive outings. Keuchel threw 8.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 2 earned runs, and he stroke out 8. Keuchel has been very tough, not allowing no more than 4 runs in his nin starts. He will look to continue his dominance on Saturday against Seattle.

Sebastian Coates, Sunderland – DEF

The Black Cats made a pair of signings on deadline day for season-long loans. Coates joins from Liverpool and Ricardo Alvarez from Inter Milan. Coates struggled to get any pitch time in his three seasons at Liverpool, making only 24 appearances including just six starts. The defender suffered a major knee injury last summer, but should be set for plenty of pitch time at Sunderland.  Alvarez was part of the 2014 Argentina squad that lost 0-1 to Germany in the final and picked up 14 goals in 90 appearances for Inter. The newly promoted club made a trio of moves on deadline day including Boyd coming over from Hull City on a three year deal. Michael Keane joins the defensive line after making only five appearances for Manchester United, most recently playing in the 1-1 draw between the two clubs last week. Nathaniel Chalobah joins Burnley from Chelsea on a loan deal and despite not having any Premiership time, the midfielder has impressed while on loan at multiple clubs. Source: …
