NFL 2021: WEEK 2 Fantasy Defense Streamers

Week one was crazy, right?  Some defenses surprised us (Seattle Seahawks) and those that just continued being who we thought they were (Pittsburgh Steelers). And if you are someone using defense streamers, there is always something good to pick up.

For reference, rostered percentages are from Fantasy Pros.  So here we go.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS – ROSTERED 12% YAHOO AND 9% ESPN LEAGUES

While everyone was watching Russ Cook, the defense was preparing its own little delicacy.  The defense not only managed to hold running back Jonathan Taylor under 60 yards and out of the endzone, but they also sacked quarterback Carson Wentz twice.  The defensive line was pretty amazing.

This week, they play host to Ryan Tannehill and the Tennessee Titans, who were embarrassed by Chandler Jones and the Arizona Cardinals in Week One. Don’t expect embarrassment, but the Seahawks’ defense should make Tannehill and company uncomfortable.

ARIZONA CARDINALS – ROSTERED 45% YAHOO AND 18% ESPN

Is this an indictment on ESPN fantasy football players? I’m surprised after last week’s showing I’m surprised the Cardinals are available anywhere.

This game does have a high over/under (50.5), but quarterback Kirk Cousins was sacked three times by an undervalued Cincinnati Bengals defense

The Cardinals are more than Chandler Jones (and his five sacks last week).  Isaiah Simmons had seven tackles and an interception, Michael Dogbe added a sack to his three tackles, Corey Peters added a fumble recovery, and we haven’t even mentioned JJ Watt getting into the stat column.

Look for the Cardinals’ front seven to try and stop running back Dalvin Cook, which means pressure on Kirk Cousins.

CINCINNATI BENGALS – ROSTERED 2% YAHOO AND 4% ESPN

This isn’t a ringing endorsement but a “so you’re saying there’s a chance” play.  The Bengals’ defense recorded three sacks and a fumble recovery in their overtime win over Minnesota last week.

The Bears’ offense is in a Nagy-flux right now, and current quarterback Andy Dalton was sacked three times last week, and he also accounted for one interception and a fumble.

The current over/under is 45 with a slight 2.5 edge to the home team Bears.

The Bengals defense should be able to score you some points without hurting you by allowing an offensive juggernaut.

CONCLUSIONS

The New Orleans Saints defense against Carolina is streamable, but with a 53% rostered rate, chances of acquiring them are slim, which doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.

It appears the panic that happened with offensive players last week did not reverberate to the defenses. Its okay streaming is always an option.
