Week 5 College Football Picks Against the Spread

Oklahoma Kyler Murray

It is already time to make Week 5 College Football picks against the spread. A month of the season is the books and things are becoming apparent. The biggest slap in the face besides my awful picks from Week 4, is how fast the season flies by.

Week 4 was an 0-3 stinker on the main slate and 3-2 in my bonus picks. A 3-5 week is far from ideal but it doesn’t totally crater your bank roll.

Fantasy just got a whole lot better thanks to Monkey Knife Fight. With fast-paced games like Rapid Fire and Either/Or, it’s never been easier to play fantasy and win. New to MKF? Get Exclusive $100 Deposit Match + Free $5 Game >

Let’s take advantage of some interesting Week 5 lines and get back to our winning ways!

Oklahoma Sooners -21 vs Baylor Bears

The Oklahoma Sooners are going to be very happy to welcome the Baylor Bears this week and face a traditional offense and minimal defense Big 12 squad. The game a week ago against Army was a strange one. Big 12 and triple option typically do not find themselves in the same sentence.

Speaking of hard to find, congratulations if you saw any of this game. It was on Pay-Per-View. Who knew that even happened? The smart folks who wanted to see this game likely found a random twitch stream or something. Not that I would know anything about that.

Anyway, the Baylor Bears come in to this game with a 3-1 record, getting wins against Abilene Christian, UTSA and Kansas. There only loss was at home to Duke where they lost by 13. This game will be their toughest of the season by a country mile.

The Sooners are going to put it on the Bears this week and cover the 3 TDs with ease. Oklahoma will remind everyone of their ceiling and Baylor will be reminded of where they are in the rebuilding process.

Pick: Oklahoma -21

Kentucky Wildcats PK v South Carolina Gamecocks

This has been an incredible season for Kentucky football. They are undefeated and are ranked 17th in the country. The beat Florida for the first time in 32 years. Benny Snell and Terry Wilson have this offense rolling.

This week the Wildcats welcome Jake Bentley and the South Carolina Gamecocks. They were a team some thought could rise up and make some noise in the SEC East. While they took care of Vandy and Coastal Carolina, they were thumped by Georgia.

This week the Gamecocks are on the road for the second straight week while the Wildcats remain home for the third straight week. Great news if you want to back Kentucky!

This game opened up with South Carolina as a short favorite on the road but has since moved to a pick ‘em. I’m going with the line movement and backing the Cats at home.

Pick: Kentucky PK

Texas Tech Red Raiders +3.5 vs West Virginia Mountaineers

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are on their way to becoming the second best team in the Big 12. This weeks home matchup against West Virginia will further cement that.

Alan Bowman is becoming the next Texas Tech QB to emerge with insane passing stats. He has thrown for over 1,000 yards and 7 TDs in the last two weeks alone! He has this offense humming.

West Virginia comes into this game with a 3-0 record with wins over Tennessee, Youngstown State and Kansas State. This will be by far the toughest test of the season. Will Grier is a good QB and their defense is a marked improvement of previous editions.

That said, I like the home team in this spot. I think they are the second best team in the Big 12 amd Saturday will prove that. An early kick in Lubbock will make things a bit weird. I not only like the Red Raiders to cover but to get the outright win.

Pick: Texas Tech +3.5

Bonus Picks: Clemson -25.5, Louisiana Lafayette +51.5, Northwestern +14.5
