2017 TOP 100 ROOKIE RANKINGS

I have compiled my Top 100 Overall rankings for the rookies (IDP included) and will start off with my 1-50 rankings.  Rookie drafts are heating up; ADP’s are being updated everyday (check DLF for that) but more than likely you’re wondering where do the IDP’s fit with the offense; well that’s what this is for.  It’ll be very league dependent (based on your scoring and how many teams) but I’ll tell you it’s pretty much top heavy for impact this season and the rest you’d want to stash and wait; so hopefully your league has an expanded taxi squad.

Here are my top 50 Rookies; I will follow it up with 51-100 tomorrow.  I have done a couple rookie drafts already and if you’re wondering where certain IDP’s go; feel free to post a comment or send me a mention on twitter and I’ll let you know.

1 COREY DAVIS WR TEN yes, TEN is based around the run but I believe Davis will open things up and even moreso evolve Mariota into that upper echelon
2 LEONARD FOURNETTE RB JAC all signs pointing to Jaguars handing the keys to Leonard; that OL gotta open up some holes tho
3 CHRISTIAN MCCAFFREY RB CAR such a dynamic player that’ll go into an offense in need of a playmaker
4 JOE MIXON RB CIN good riddance Jeremy Hill; CIN gets their upgrade
5 MIKE WILLIAMS WR LAC Rivers loves his tall WR’s, Williams will have no problems fitting in
6 DALVIN COOK RB MIN should be MIN lead back by .. Lets say week 4? Earlier?
7 JOHN ROSS WR CIN brings some much needed juice to a WR unit that needs it
8 OJ HOWARD TE TBB sure TE’s don’t score well in rookie seasons; glad I play in dynasty – all 3 TE’s in this draft are worthy of a 1st round pick
9 DAVID NJOKU TE CLE see above
10 EVAN ENGRAM TE NYG again; see above
11 ZAY JONES WR BUF BUF finally gonna give Watkins some help
12 KAREEM HUNT RB KCC might have to wait a year but will be worth it; Hunt so explosive with his elusiveness
13 MARLON MACK RB IND gonna be what IND thought they had in Ferguson but so much better
14 JUJU SMITH-SCHUSTER WR PIT think he landed on the right team; won’t be asked to do much right away but will be on a potent offense – should easily take Coates snaps (at the very least)
15 CARLOS HENDERSON WR DEN one of my fav WR’s in this class; so good after the catch – DEN just needs a QB to get em the ball
16 CHRIS GODWIN WR TBB another one of those WR’s we may have to wait for; but you’re not passing up his talent in the draft, whether it’s late 1st or early 2nd
17 ALVIN KAMARA RB NOS my Lasco shares are trash now; Kamara should have no problem taking what they’d call the “Reggie Bush” role – servicable in PPR leagues for sure
18 JEREMY MCNICHOLS RB TBB with Martin suspended for the first 4 games; I believe McNichols can take advantage of this opportunity – will be targeting everywhere I can.
19 TAYWAN TAYLOR WR TEN deep threat for Mariota; adds another weapon for a growing offense
20 SAMAJE PERINE RB WAS only has Ryan Kelley to beat out; a determined Perine should have no problem doing that and running all over the NFC East
21 CURTIS SAMUEL WR CAR wild playmaker for the Panthers; what’s his ceiling – Percy Harvin-like?
22 ZACH CUNNINGHAM ILB HOU the future is now; Texans add a near complete LB compliments McKinney
23 RUEBEN FOSTER MLB SF risk/reward concerns with Foster; but if he’s focused he’s going to be a beast on the field
24 D’ONTA FOREMAN RB HOU brings some power to the run game
25 MYLES GARRETT DE CLE in a tier on his own in this DE class; if you need a DE you should plan on targeting Myles early 2nd – maybe you can wait until the mid-part (pending on your league)
26 JAMES CONNER RB PIT love the player but not the situation (for now) BUT we all saw what Dwill did when Bell wasn’t playing – could also be PIT’s RB1 if Bell leaves
27 KENNY GOLLADAY WR DET sleeper pick that you can get kinda late in drafts, big redzone target for Stafford and has some speed!
28 JOSH REYNOLDS WR LAR just hope his career didn’t end before it even started
29 HAASON REDDICK ILB ARI love the player; the talent – but he is learning a new position; it’ll take time – still worth an early 3rd because dynasty reasons; right?
30 JARRAD DAVIS MLB DET right out the gate DET has given Davis the keys to the defense; brings some much needed attitude
31 JAMAAL WILLIAMS RB GBP could be a headache in GBP (fantasy wise) but Jamaal could be their early down banger
32 JAMAL ADAMS SS NYJ Adams is leet – will bring the impact they thought Pryor was going to come with
33 JABRILL PEPPERS SS CLE perfect situation/opportunity for Peppers; could make an argument that he’s DB1 in this class – hopefully he’ll up his playmaking; he has too
34 AARON JONES RB GBP or if Jamaal won’t take the job then there’s always this guy – Jones is good and cheaper to get in rookie drafts (for the time being)
35 CHAD WILLIAMS WR ARI ARI searching for WR’s after Fitz it’s a clusterF*** .. Williams can definitely earn a role early on
36 JOE WILLIAMS RB SF he’s getting some hype right now; not fully buying into it BUT worth finding out – esp if Hyde falls out
37 COOPER KUPP WR LAR see: Josh Reynolds
38 JALEN REEVES-MAYBIN WLB DET bring that athleticism to a questionable LB unit in DET (minus Davis); should get the starting WLB job sooner than later – it’ll be tough to keep him off the field
39 WAYNE GALLMAN RB NYG could get the early downs then giving way to Perkins; Gallman take care though – hard runner think he’s going to be one of the underrated RB’s in this class
40 BUDDA BAKER SS ARI will see snaps all over the field; resemblence of Mathieu
41 ISAIAH FORD WR MIA gonna have to fight his way to the top 1/2 of the depth chart but Ford has some talent – might be the highest on him (maybe?)
42 RAEKWON MCMILLAN SLB MIA will be an early down LB to start off his career; let em develop & improve in coverage and skies the limit for Raekwon.
43 DONNELL PUMPHREY RB PHI gonna be a PPR gem; whether he becomes their lead back or lines up at WR – read somewhere he forced 208 missed tackles in college; pretty good eh?
44 JOSH MALONE WR CIN could be one of those WR picks that’ll pan out next year but good to get em now and wait; going to be learning from AJG and may push Boyd for targets
45 DEDE WESTBROOK WR JAC behind Robinson; Lee and Hurns – not much left but with Hurns taking a step back last season – Dede could steal some of his targets; but also Bortles is his QB so yeah
46 SOLOMON THOMAS DE SF Solomon’s a force; his versatility will help SF on the DL & should help out Buckner some as well – should eat up tackles
47 OBI MELIFONWU FS OAK eventually will replace Nelson and form a solid duo with Joseph.  Obi has Top 20 ceiling
48 DUKE RILEY MLB ATL tough situation for Duke; like the player – he may battle Campbell for WLB duties either way he has everydown potential – just a matter of when that opportunity comes
49 BLAIR BROWN MLB JAC future MLB for the Jaguars; Telvin is a FA next season and if he doesn’t resign the Jaguars can move Myles to his natural fit WLB and Blair can handle the middle; he’s so good against the run
50 JAKE BUTT TE DEN still recovering from ACL; possibly ready to go by September – but could see a redshirt rookie season and come back and dominate in ’18 – think Jake has top 12 potential in DEN

51 JONATHAN ALLEN DL WAS bout to become a tackle machine
52 MALACHI DUPRE WR GBP like his landing spot; good for the taxi squad in ’17
53 JEHU CHESSON WR KCC deep threat, goes up and gets the ball will prob have to wait for the Mahomes era to start before we get a glimpse of Chesson’s potential
54 AMARA DARBOH WR SEA Kearse replacement; has to be all in all though; rooting for this guy – great story
55 PAT MAHOMES QB KCC ah yes; here come the QB’s – once he takes reign he’ll open up the KCC offense or nah?
56 DESHAUN WATSON QB HOU ready to start now; has the weapons around him – let em rip
57 UKEME ELIGWE ILB KCC dark horse sleeper that you could probably get towards the last 2 rounds of your rookie draft; worth the flier – only has Ramik/March in his way for playing time & is far better (IMO)
58 GERALD EVERETT TE LAR if Higbee doesn’t work out; Rams got Plan B
59 JOSH JONES DB GBP Packers new “Micah Hyde” will be playing all over and potentially down at ILB too – would definitely target him in the 4th round
60 RAYSHAWN JENKINS SS LAC will bring the physicality & tone setting presence – shouldn’t have a problem supplanting Addae
61 MARCUS MAYE FS NYJ rangy safety; if you miss out on Adams – Maye is a solid replacement; gonna be busy on that defese
62 ARDARIUS STEWART WR NYJ what am I missing that others are seeing to take him in the 3rd round of rookie drafts?
63 ADAM SHAHEEN TE CHI good spot for Shaheen; should develop reps with Tribusky early & often
64 TYUS BOWSER LB BAL I can see BAL use Bowser at WILB too (where Orr played) since Bowser has no problem dropping into coverage – if so; could see him rise in ranks
65 MITCHELL TRIBUSKY QB CHI could he pan out? Maybe – needs to beat out Glennon in camp; possible?
66 DESHONE KIZER QB CLE I personally think Kizer will be just fine; has a good OL, some weapons to work with as well
67 TANNER VALLEJO ILB BUF with no WLB on the roster; may get shot early on – could see him at WLB or MLB
68 TAKKARIST MCKINLEY DE ATL banking on him retaining DE tag; would be good for IDP guys – ATL needs pass rushers; instant impact
69 ADOREE JACKSON CB TEN yup; I’m a believer in Adoree putting up numbers in TEN whether it be on returns or in the IDP department
70 BRIAN HILL RB ATL power back for the Falcons; should steal some carries from Freeman/Coleman
71 MARCUS WILLIAMS FS NOS potential Vacarro replacement; has some range & ball skills
72 DEREK RIVERS DE NEP NEP prob found their new Chandler Jones; gonna be lining up at LB and DE – solid against the run & adds another pass rusher
73 BUCKY HODGES TE MIN another receiving option for Bradford
74 JUSTIN EVANS FS TBB hard hitting rangy FS; can cover – an upgrade over Conte ceiling is DB1
75 CHARLES HARRIS DE MIA will probably just play in nickel/sub packages to rush the passer; needs to improve his run defense
76 JAYON BROWN LB TEN potential Woodyard replacement? May get Spence’s snaps
77 TJ WATT OLB PIT still raw; may contribute more on the field than in IDP – pegged em with Kerrigan-like IDP profile though
78 TACO CHARLTON DE DAL well; DAL don’t have much else to rush the passer – Taco may be the near the top of short term options at DE for you; prime opportunity
79 DEREK BARNETT DE PHI fits the scheme perfectly; how much will he play though – Graham, Long, Curry – potential cloudy situation
80 JORDAN WILLIS DE CIN sooner or later will replace Johnson; like his upside
81 ROBERT DAVIS WR WAS another tall target; deep ball threat – targets may be hard to come by his rookie season tho but makes a solid stash
82 MACK HOLLINS WR PHI still a bit raw but will compete for starting job? He’s got the speed and size – if im drafting him; I’ll be stashing him on the taxi squad for 2018
83 MALIK MCDOWELL DT SEA Malik gonna eat in SEA; surrounded by superb talent shouldn’t have any problems with little to none double team attention – solid grab for DT leagues
84 KENDALL BECKWITH OLB TBB will take the Daryl Smith role in TBB; 2-down thumper since he’s solid against the run but he won’t hurt Kwon; I repeat he won’t hurt Kwon
85 CHAD HANSEN WR NYJ with some question marks at WR, could make immediate impact
86 MARQUEL LEE LB OAK has all the tools to be an every down LB; just not yet – draft and stash
87 ELIJAH LEE LB MIN will light a fire under Anthony Barr’s ass; potential there and could fight for snaps at WLB with Greenway’s departure
88 DAVIS WEBB QB NYG Eli won’t be playing much longer; future Webb to Beckham TD passes in the works – or no? haha
89 MATT DAYES RB CLE pretty good pass blocker; can run – maybe he’ll make the team as their RB3 and could even steal some carries
90 TJ LOGAN RB ARI got that wiggle and acceleration; backup to DJ? Line up at WR? 3rd down RB? Options
91 RYAN SWITZER WR DAL slot WR but don’t the Cowboys already have a Cole Beasley?
92 MALIK HOOKER FS IND ah yes, high draft pedigree but will be better on the field than in IDP
93 ALEX ANZALONE LB NOS NOS LB situation is a mess right now; might be a while before the smoke clears – there is opportunity for Anzalone though; esp if he stays healthy
94 XAVIER WOODS FS DAL can light it up, cover – will be a nice compliment to Byron Jones as Cowboys will try and replace Barry Church.  Cowboys need all the playmakers they can get too on the defensive side
95 JORDAN EVANS MLB CIN Minter is just on a 1-year deal; Evans has to work on his missed tackles and become more consistent – redshirt year in ’17 while he learns with Minter/Burfict
96 ELIJAH HOOD RB OAK physical runner; should be Marshawn’s backup while Washington & Richard handle the 3rd down duties
97 TRAVIS RUDOLPH WR NYG long shot here but im rooting for the guy; if he makes the NYG team it’ll be a crowded unit may get cut and go elsewhere?
98 DEMARCUS WALKER DL DEN DEN needs pass rushing help on the DL; Walker will bring that especially from the inside upside of a DE2
99 NOAH BROWN WR DAL Brown gonna replace Terrance Williams? Maybe maybe not – possession WR?
100 ELIJAH MCGUIRE RB NYJ mainly a return specialist; better fit for COP back or receiving option out of the backfield

    Aloha Bee,

    Zach Cunningham at 22 overall & 1st IDP?
    Is this a long term ranking?
    Short term, I suspect he’ll be limited by Cushing.
    Why would he start so early and produce more than R Foster?

      yes all my rankings are dynasty based; long term I’m a big fan of Cunningham’s game and how he fits HOU. With him wanting to add more muscle will only help him shed blocks better, has the skill set to help in coverage or take that pressure off McKinney. I think both Zach and Foster will have starting roles by mid-season and run away with their job, it’ll be hard to keep Zach off the field but early on he’ll prob get in on nickel as the defense is stacked as is – as a Texans fan you should be happy, got a steal in the 2nd round
