2017 Very Early IDP LB Dynasty Rankings
-
Updated: February 14, 2017

| RANK | PLAYER | TEAM | MY THOUGHTS |
KWON ALEXANDER | TBB | I know im alone here and that’s fine, I will continue to lead the Kwon train.
BOBBY WAGNER | SEA | dominant presence and glad he’s been healthy
VONTAZE BURFICT | CIN | knucklehead (yes) injuries (yes) if you can bypass those and risk for the elite production, Burfict is as legit as they’ll come
ALEC OGLETREE | LAR | you see? believe in the “Tree”
DEION JONES | ATL | spetacular rookie season & performance in the super bowl, will only get better and will maintain LB1 value
JAMIE COLLINS | CLE | new team don’t matter, meshed well with Kirksey will be back to LB1
CJ MOSLEY | BAL | Orr has retired, CJ had a down year – expect a bounce back in a major way
LUKE KUECHLY | CAR | arguably the best on the field, lot of concerns though
TELVIN SMITH | JAC | Poz will be fading out sooner than later, Myles wont eat into production much
LAVONTE DAVID | TBB | not worried about Lavonte, but his elite status is gone (unfortunately) still a serviceable LB1
JATAVIS BROWN | LAC | too bad he got injured, Jatavis was having a standout rookie season and shall be the top Chargers LB next few years as their WLB in Bradley’s scheme ala Telvin
ERIC KENDRICKS | MIN |
CHRISTIAN KIRKSEY | CLE | too bad he got injured, Jatavis was having a standout rookie season and shall be the top Chargers LB next few years as their WLB in Bradley’s scheme ala Telvin
RYAN SHAZIER | PIT | superb talent just the injury history you’ll have to put up with, with Timmons aging – Shazier’s time is NOW
NAVORRO BOWMAN | SF |
SEAN LEE | DAL | a healthy Jaylon Smith will eat into his production and no that’s not #AlternativeFacts
BENARDRICK MCKINNEY | HOU | breakout year and will continue
JORDAN HICKS | PHI | too talented to not play, think Schwartz knows that now and bounce back is in store – buy target
PRESTON BROWN | BUF |
DARRON LEE | NYJ | passed the learning process now it’s time to find his nitch, time to buy is now
DANNY TREVATHAN | CHI | top tier LB2 option, just has problems staying healthy
DEONE BUCANNON | ARI | I toned down a little but still a Deone fan, he’ll bounce back
DENZEL PERRYMAN | LAC | starting MLB job should be his in the “Poz” role
DEVONDRE CAMPBELL | ATL | we got a sneak peek of what’s to come from his performance in the Super Bowl, wouldn’t be surprised if he’s up & up with Deion soon
ZACH BROWN | BUF | pending FA, if he stays in BUF he’ll get a slight bump – low ceiling but solid floor remains
MARK BARRON | LAR | quietly just gets the job done, servicable LB2 potential diff role in new scheme?
JERRELL FREEMAN | CHI | steady vet, not flashy just productive
NIGEL BRADHAM | PHI | succeed expectations last year, should sustain LB2 productivity
KIKO ALONSO | MIA | well, until MIA fixes their LB issues – Kiko is all they got
REGGIE RAGLAND | BUF | coming off a knee injury, may have slow start to 17′ season but high tackling floor & cheap buy right now
MYLES JACK | JAC | Poz is fading, it’s happening – time for the Jags to get more athletic and younger
AVERY WILLIAMSON | TEN | he’s still TEN best LB, should get back to every down role
KJ WRIGHT | SEA |
BRANDON MARSHALL | DEN | don’t let a disappointment in ’16 shy you away, if anything he’ll be super cheap now – servicable floor
LAWRENCE TIMMONS | PIT | old savvy vet won’t go away but it’ll start
ANTONIO MORRISON | IND | decent ceiling to target, if he lands starting gig will be solid LB3 with upside
DERRICK JOHNSON | KCC | think he’ll slow down? Got that injury he’s coming back from
VON MILLER | DEN |
JADEVEON CLOWNEY | HOU | the rise is on, was phenomenal down the stretch – awaiting DE tag so if you can acquire now – do so
MASON FOSTER | WAS | career year by Foster, will it continue? That’s risky but he’s arguably the best ILB they got right now
MELVIN INGRAM | LAC | pending FA – landing spot is key
THOMAS DAVIS | CAR |
TAHIR WHITEHEAD | DET | yeah he put up numbers last year but was “Worrilow-ish” on the field, that gotta be some level of concern – sell
MALCOLM SMITH | OAK | think he stays in OAK, steady LB2 value until they get a solid MLB
JAYLON SMITH | DAL | im enjoying reading about his progress, if he returns anything close to his old self – expect him to rise in ranks BUT be pro-active and see if you can acquire him NOW (esp if it doesn’t cost you much)
STEPHONE ANTHONY | NOS | ah man what the hell happened here Stephone? Cheap target that still has LB2 upside
JELANI JENKINS | MIA | pending FA that could be IDP relevant again on new team
PAUL POSLUSZNY | JAC | thanks for the memories Poz, you’ve done well
WHITNEY MERCILUS | HOU | just keeps putting it all together
JUSTIN HOUSTON | KCC | a healthy Houston is pretty up there
VIC BEASLEY | ATL | many doubted him in ’16 – proved them wrong and if ATL ever gets pass rush help, could be even better
ANTHONY BARR | MIN | ah man what a disappointment
SU’A CRAVENS | WAS | his role should continue to get bigger & better (Foster/Compton) arent long term options
BJ GOODSON | NYG | rising LB will get his shot, NYG needs it
MARKUS GOLDEN | ARI | breakout year is no fluke
RAMIK WILSON | KCC | he prob played himself into a role in ’17 but im expecting KCC to address their ILB issues
SHAQ THOMPSON | CAR | maybe not Shaq’s time (yet)
BLAKE MARTINEZ | GBP | someone in GBP gotta get the tackles, right?
KAMALEI CORRERA | BAL | should be 1st up to take Orr’s spot, poor man’s Jamie Collins
LEONARD FLOYD | CHI |
BRUCE IRVIN | OAK |
NICK PERRY | GBP | pending FA also pending if ’16 wasn’t a fluke or not so draft at your own risk
NICK KWIATKOSKI | CHI | solid down the stretch, earned himself a starting gig but not until Trevathan or Freeman are gone
MYCHAL KENDRICKS | PHI | potentially could be traded/cut – landing spot would be key for him to rise in my rankings, cheap buy/add right now
MATT JUDON | BAL | should continue to be the heir to Dumervil, definitely has double digit sack potential
DEANDRE LEVY | DET | thanks for the memories Levy
BRIAN CUSHING | HOU | you too Cushing
DANNELL ELLERBE | NOS |
RYAN KERRIGAN | WAS |
CHANDLER JONES | ARI | FA to be but expected to stay in ARI
BUD DUPREE | PIT | solid down the stretch, as role continues to expand so shall his stats & his ranking
EDWIN JACKSON | IND | think he’s D’Qwell’s replacement (for now) but DJ is still on team – stash but would take one of the rookies instead
VINCE WILLIAMS | PIT | ah here’s a tough one, could get big uptick on how off-season goes
ZADARIUS SMITH | BAL |
KOREY TOOMER | LAC | played great for the Chargers as they suffered injuries everywhere, can play any LB position and is also a FA
TYLER MATAKEVICH | PIT | cloudy status right now until off-season clears up, cheap stash
JAKE RYAN | GBP |
KEENAN ROBINSON | NYG |
ELANDON ROBERTS | NEP | IF they don’t bring back Hightower, Roberts role could expand
JORDAN JENKINS | NYJ | one lone edge that did decent for NYJ, nice add for big play leagues
JONATHAN CASILLAS | NYG |
DEMARIO DAVIS | CLE |
PRESTON SMITH | WAS | ah man what happened? Slight concern but not doubting the talent that’s still there – stash in big play leagues
ANTWOINE WILLIAMS | DET |
SEAN SPENCE | TEN |
LORENZO ALEXANDER | BUF | can he repeat his career year? I’m not sure
JOSHUA PERRY | LAC | dynasty stash for now
TODD DAVIS | DEN |
KYLE VAN NOY | NEP | keep tabs on KVN this off-season
VINCENT REY | CIN | I just don’t know why CIN prefers others > Rey other than Burfict
KEVIN MINTER | ARI |
KARLOS DANSBY | CIN |
CORY JAMES | OAK |
KENTRELL BROTHERS | MIN | deep league stash but expect a 2-down role in MIN
KEVIN DODD | TEN |
GERALD HODGES | SF | what to do with this guy, definition of hot & cold – pass for me
LORENZO MAULDIN | NYJ | dude, what happened?
NICK VIGIL | CIN |
ANTHONY HITCHENS | DAL | ah he’s probably way too low here BUT a healthy Jaylon with Sean Lee and Hitchens sees the bench *shrug*
ALEX OKAFOR | ARI

Thoughts on a guy like Sio Moore?

gotta be a deep league with big rosters to consider him, he’s been moved around & wouldnt be surprised he ends up on another team this off-season – if you’re looking to cut bait, he’s droppable and easily replaceable

Must really hate Shane Ray, even as a starter going into 2017, wow.

i think of Ray as a deep league LB, not one of my big play targets he’s still going to split snaps with Barrett but as FA clears up & all you might find Ray on here in the next update

Just want to say that I love your work and the insight that you always add to why you make the decisions that you do. I made a lot of smart pickups for IDP that I would have never made or been aware of without your notes and rankings. So glad you are back!

Well said, Jay and I will second that. I have K. Alexander and J. Hicks thanks to Bee and they helped me rebuild my Dynasty team, The Mean Machine(http://www56.myfantasyleague.com/2017/home/41408#0), in just two years. Thank you, Bee, you’re site/advice is my secret weapon!
p.s. Hoping A. Morrison will start in 2017 too!

Any thoughts on A.J. Klein? He’s on the wire and I have Wagner, K. Alexander, Hicks, Foster, Morrison, Goodson and Whitehead. I’m thinking maybe Klein for Whitehead given Tahir’s limited ceiling but are they basically the same solid yet unspectacular type player.

he becomes an intriguing add right now, could have a nice opportunity in NOS – i’d def drop Tahir for Klein, Klein got some upside to him and now Tahir will have to be looking over his shoulder with the signing of Worrilow but another one to consider is Foster, unless you’re a believer he’ll put together another solid season – either or is worth flipping for Klein tho, he’s been productive starting for Luke when asked, still improving – your starters are in place to allow you to take flier on Klein

Thanks a lot, yeah, I dropped Whitehead. I have a little soft spot for Foster since I drafted him as a rookie. I’ve since traded him away for a 4th a couple years ago and then recently gabbed him back off the wire. He finished 13th in LBs over the last 7 games with an 8.36 avg and with Cravens moving to safety full time I think he could be a solid LB3 and a good depth option should he get full time work.
