Khalil Mack is your numero uno and are you really surprised? JPP is definitely a name to keep tabs on this off-season as he’s a FA and there’s a shot he’ll end up elsewhere; regardless I’m not doubting his talent and neither should you. Watt will be back with a vengeance in 2017 as he makes his way back after a lost season; time to buy is now! Are we surprised by the ranking of Danielle Hunter and Joey Bosa? You shouldn’t be, I’ve been a big Hunter fan and Bosa just proved me wrong; didn’t expect him to be that dominant out the gate. Their prices may be steep but if you got the ammo & depth to make the move; I’d advise to do so. In his last six games Bosa produced 26 tackles, 11 TFL and 6.5 sacks. Calais is a pending FA and could very well change jerseys in 2017 and if so I’m not worried about production, no sign of decline and will continue to pile up tackles in bunches; he ended 2016 as the DL2 behind Khalil Mack; FYI.
There’s been some scared news when Rams hired Wade Phillips; Donald owners were freaking out but why? He’s an absolute stud and if you’re freaking out about him means you don’t trust Wade and Wade KNOWS when he has an elite defensive player. He’s going to put Donald in situations where he can succeed; so if someone is selling – go ahead and buy him.
Frank Clark, Carl Nassib, Trey Flowers – believe! Told y’all about Clark last two seasons; you’d still may be able to get him a affordable price being Seattle likes to rotate but it’s hard to ignore what Clark did this season (47 tackles, 10 sacks). Nassib is sort of an after thought after a miserable rookie season plagued by injuries and spotty snaps but he has a solid ceiling; especially after his stellar pre-season that got a lot of folks attention. Don’t worry about the scheme change, he fits just fine as a 4-3 DE. Buy/Add Flowers where you can; his performance in the Super Bowl wasn’t a fluke (like Ealy’s) and shall be an even bigger part of the Patriots pass rush attack in ’17.
IF Jerry Hughes gets the DE tag again, it’s time to put him back on the IDP map; he’ll be a bit more useful there. A healthy Mario Edwards is what Oakland has missed and will be welcomed going forward; he has a solid tackle floor & potential to rack up 8-10 sacks.
DeMarcus Lawrence is set to have off-season surgery (i know, again!) and it is concerning but i still like his potential once he gets on the field. He has dropped though; a healthy Lawrence will be a suitable DL2 option. Mario Addison is a name to keep tabs on, he’s not “young” (29) but he’s solid and has been productive in rotational snaps (8 sacks last 7 games of the season). If he stays in Carolina, solid value and should get the potential to start as I don’t think Johnson is returning.
David Irving hype is real BUT temper expectations; he’s similar to Devin Taylor in which he was excellent in rotational snaps but how will he hold up if given full-time role? Lack of DE depth in DAL and oozing upside is hard to pass up right now; be a buyer where you can afford too. Unfortunately it is time to sell Robert Quinn for whatever you can get; he’s already peaked and always seems to be injured – if you can get him in exchange for like a 4th or 5th round rookie pick or even another IDP player I’d do that in a heartbeat. Noah Spence has double digit sack upside, he put up 5.5 sacks on spare snaps and if Gholston is gone; expect Spence to earn a starting job. Has a little Cliff Avril IDP Profile to him; 9-12 sacks with 40-50 tackle floor. Robert Nkemdiche, don’t forget about him especially IF Calais leaves via Free Agency, Cardinals have nobody else on that line and although I’m expecting them to address it – a year of learning and developing should help Nkemdiche into gaining a role next season. Too much of a talent to let sit, would be pro-active and get him now while he’s free.

i got asked the same question, I use MFL for my positional rankings and he’s still listed as a LB there BUT I should have included him here as I’ve included Jerry Hughes so it’s and early mistake on my part. In that case, IF and when Clowney gets DE eligibility he would have and will be in my top 10 (DL1)
