Week 9 of the fantasy football season is upon us. Whether it’s due to injury, bye-weeks, or a bad match-up many of us are looking for quarterback streaming options this week. This week two options stand out above the rest as clear favorites of the widely available options. If you play in a more shallow league or one where the position is less owned Jimmy Garoppolo and Gardner Minshew are also enticing this week.
Before we head into Week 9, let’s revisit Week 8. Daniel Jones was an absolute stud last week finishing as the QB1. Sam Darnold was so frustrating! *Every Jets fan nods in agreement* He wasn’t a total disaster but left a lot to be desired. Jacoby Brissett fell apart this week in a seemingly golden match-up. I am not running away from him as an option most weeks but these underwhelming performances are in his range of outcomes.
So who do I like if your streaming quarterbacks in Week 9?
Sam Darnold – 25% Owned on Yahoo!
I’m going back to the Sam Darnold well again this week even after a less than stellar performance. Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment but like any good cornerback, I need to focus on the next play.
The Jets are back in Florida this week, this time to take on the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins have been atrocious against the pass all season long and are currently allowing the 4th most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. This is especially awful considering they are getting outscored 238 to 77 on the season.
Now the Dolphins are playing without Xavien Howard, who is likely done for the season. The addition of Aquib Talib should help a bit but this “help” is like Chevy Chase using chewing gum to plug a leak in the Hoover Dam. If you are looking for blow up potential he is absolutely your option. That said, Sam Darnold doing Sam Darnold things is a very real possibility.
I will be using him in multiple leagues this week. In the immortal words of Jerry McGuire, “Who’s coming with me?!!”
Derek Carr – 41% Owned on Yahoo!
I’m as surprised as you are to see Derek Carr as a streaming option this season but here we are. Carr has actually been solid thus far this season and has been improving. He has multiple touchdown passes in four of his last five games. Carr has also gone north of 280 passing yards in 2 straight games. This week, the Raiders are home to face a Lions defense allowing the 7th most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Tyrell Williams also back and looking good after his foot injury.
Matthew Stafford and company shouldn’t have issues moving the ball against a Raiders defense that is allowing the second most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. This should force the Raiders to throw and keep pace. In fact, this game is one of two contests to featured a total over 50.
Typically I like to recommend three options but this week there isn’t a third option I’m willing to back. Mitchell Trubisky has the potential to produce against an awful Eagles secondary, but with the contest on the road I would avoid that situation if I could.
