Don't Miss

Week 13 Waiver Wire and Playoff Planning

Chargers Austin Ekeler

Welcome to the Week 13 Waiver Wire options where it gets real ugly, real fast. I have a few names to keep an eye on as potential options to add but more importantly its time to plan for the playoffs.

Now is the time to stash an extra QB, RB, or Defense you know has a great schedule down the stretch or tasty match up. Who should you add? What do you need to know? Let’s break it all down!

Austin Ekeler | RB | LA Chargers

Yahoo – 71%
ESPN – 55%

While I don’t typically feature anyone who is owned above 50ish%, Austin Ekeler needs to be mentioned. It is unclear if Melvin Gordon will actually miss anytime with a MCL sprain, it was clear that his owners need to run to the wire to add Ekeler where available this week. He had 5 carries for 35 yards and a TD on Sunday in a blowout win against the Cardinals. He also caught 10 of his 11 targets for 68 yards.

If you are digging deeper, Justin Jackson is an interesting name to pay attention to and is available in almost all leagues. If Gordon ends up missing anything significant timewise, Jackson would be a factor. He carried the ball 7 times on Sunday for 57 yards. He would assume at least some split with Ekeler.

T.J. Yeldon | RB | Jacksonville Jaguars

Yahoo – 60%
ESPN – 60%

Like Ekeler, T.J. Yeldon doesn’t typically warrant a mention but with Leonard Fournette suspended this week, he deserves to be added by RB needy teams. Yeldon has shown the ability to be effective on the ground and via the pass. Cody Kessler will be under center this week for Jacksonville. I’m honestly not sure if that helps or hurts the Jaguars. Either way I expect plenty of work including a multitude of checkdowns.

Carlos Hyde is also in play. He is available in over 60% of Yahoo leagues. He saw 4 carries after Fournette was kicked out of the game. Yeldon only saw one carry but got 3 targets. Both players are worth of your attention this week if you need RB help. Yeldon is definitely the safer option.

Handcuffs

I also highly recommend looking at those all important handcuffs for your stud RBs so you don’t end up like a Fournette or Gordon owner without a back-up to play.

Malcolm Brown, Spencer Ware, Latavius Murray, Jamaal Williams and more make a ton of sense. All of these guys can be found on the wire and stashed now if you own any of the RBs they are currently behind.

Also, if you have some flexibility on the back of your roster, you could look to add one or two of these guys even if you don’t think you need them now. You can potentially leave a leaguemate in a tough spot and it may mean the difference in advancing or going home in the fantasy playoffs.

Other RBs to add: Gus Edwards and Josh Adams need to be owned everywhere. They’re the bell cows in their respective offenses. If you need long term options and their available add them now!

Bucs Adam Humphries

Kim Klement – USA TODAY Sports

Adam Humphries | WR | Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Yahoo – 30%
ESPN – 28%

It seemed like Chris Godwin was going to overtake Adam Humphries after the game against Washington. In that game Godwin caught 7 balls for 103 yards while Humphries only saw three targets. He quickly reminded us he wasn’t going anywhere. Humphries has 11 target over the past two weeks and has found the end zone in each game. Both of those games saw Jameis Winston under center. If you need a WR who is seeing volume and can find the end zone, add him this week!

Curtis Samuel | WR | Carolina Panthers

Yahoo – 9%
ESPN – 6%

Curtis Samuel has been producing over the past few weeks despite the wavering targets. He has found the end zone in three of the past four weeks. Cam Newton uses him around the goal line despite his size.

He has 17 targets over the past 4 weeks and 3 red zone targets. Devin Funchess may miss more time opening up even more work for Samuel.

While I’m not rushing to wire to add him in all leagues, if you are going deeper this week then Samuel makes a ton of sense.

Other WRs:

If they are still available Josh Reynolds, DJ Moore, Courtland Sutton or John Ross make a ton of sense.

Other names if your are really digging deep include Marcell Ateman, Dontrelle Inman, or Dante Pettis.

Players I am not chasing

LeGarrette Blount and Mike Williams. Both players found the end zone twice in their games this week but avoid that temptation. Blount has been incredibly ineffective with his work and in a Lions offense that is a complete mess. Williams is not seeing anywhere near the volume to be a reliable option down the stretch.
