Cameron Brate | TE | Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Whether you need to replace O.J. Howard or need a bye week fill in for Travis Kelce or have just been streaming all season long, Cameron Brate makes an excellent target. Howard was placed on IR and will the rest of the season.
In steps Brate who couldn’t be re-entering the lineup at a better time as Jameis Winston is also starting once again. With Winston under center, Brate sees twice as many targets and three times as many catches, yards and TDs.
You can see his production with and without Winston below thanks to Rotoviz.
This week he faces the 49ers who on the surface look to be fine against opposing TEs ranking 20th, a deeper dive shows a less that stellar group of opponents. Travis Kelce and Jimmy Graham torched this defense. Don’t get me wrong, Brate isn’t at nearly the same level as those players, I wouldn’t be scared off the by the match-up.
San Francisco had allowed 4 straight weeks with a TE TD and they have yet to allow one since. I expect that to change this week against Tampa Bay.
Brate is available in 78% of Yahoo fantasy leagues. If you need a TE this week he would be my top option. He also becomes a weekly top 7-10 option the rest of the way, especially in Jameis stays under center.
Jeff Heuerman | TE | Denver Broncos
Beyond Brate, Jeff Heuerman makes a ton of sense. The Denver TE has 21 targets in his last three games. This week he faces a Steelers defense allowing the 8th most fantasy points to opposing TEs. Volume plus a good match-up is a recipe for a strong performance. Add him this week!
Michael Roberts | TE | Detroit Lions
Are you seriously considering Michael Roberts? In some leagues it may come to this especially if you are just looking for a player to fill in for Travis Kelce. Michael Roberts is not the worst option.
I will preface this by saying he missed the game against Carolina and was limited in practice on Tuesday. That said, when getting desperate at TE, you are really only looking for a potential TD. Roberts has a shot to do that. In the 5 games he has played this year, Roberts has caught 3. He has 9 more yards receiving despite catching nearly half as many balls as teammate Luke Willson.
With Kerryon Johnson out and Marvin Jones likely out QB Matthew Stafford will have to throw the ball somewhere especially when they get in close.
I’m not saying it will happen, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
