RB Attempts and Touches Week 7

RB Attempts and Touches Week 7 report gives a view of the RBs activity to this point in the season. The raw numbers by week are present as well as the speed based metric of Attempts and Touches per minute. I also include a ranking system based on an RBs rush vs pass ratio as annotated by a Player’s Bias. This metric allows a view of a players’ balance level and their fantasy production.

TEAM Level Average Rushing Attempts, Weekly Metrics, and DIFFs

The table below starts this report out with rushing attempts per week average as well as the DIFF metric. The DIFF metric calculates the difference of a team’s last two games. I look for trends of increases or decreases. Using RBs on teams that are using the RB more has to be a positive move in fantasy football.

These teams’ metrics were sorted by high to low Average of Rushing Attempts. The top rushing attempts teams were colorized by green while the bottom teams were stained by red coloring.

The top teams in blue are high rushing teams vs the low rushing teams in red colorization.

I have included a recent 2 games DIFF. Recent improve or declines vs a broad seasonal view of early 4 games vs recent 3 games

The green starred teams are those that have recently increased (green line DIFF). These team may continue to improve in rushing. Note KC has been low in Rushing Attempts but has improved. DEN, NO, and TB are lower rushing teams that have seen recent improvements.

This graph shows the teams that have nice recent rushing attempts. Trends? NO and BUF are the top 2. DET, HOU, NYJ, and LAR are also teams coming on in rushing. STD leagues pay attention.

TEAM Level Average Rushing Attempts Per Minute (Rushing Speed), Weekly Metrics, and DIFFs

Combine rushing attempts with a time of possession yields Rushing per Minutes. This is a speed base metric that gives a view of rushing speed. RBs on teams that rush faster has to be good unless an RBBC exists.

These are metric for fast vs slow teams in rushing. Slow rushing teams vs fast rushing teams might decide your STD leagues. 

I calculated the recent DIFFs, and Seasonal rushing speed changes (First 4 vs Last 3). Use to spot new trends and focus on handcuffs and next player up if injuries occur!

This graph gives a landscape view of the league in terms of rushing speed. The green starred teams have recent improvements in rushing speed! 

The seasonal metric shows those teams that have definitely improved in rushing speed in the last 3 games vs early int he season. New trends and players? Focus on the why.

TEAM Level Average Touches Per Minute (Rushing and Reception Speed), Weekly Metrics, and DIFFs

Touches are a combo metric of rushing and receptions. A measure of total RB activity. It is clear that RBs can be rushers, pass catchers or both. The touch speed of a teams RB catches the complete story and a focus on the top teams will be positive for DFS or fantasy team.

The touches per minute measure the entire RB range of activity including rushing and pass receptions. This may be the best metric. 

The flow goes from left to right in terms of Touches_Min. Green Stars as teams with very recent improvements. Watch for further trends. 

A more across the season view of low to high increases in touches_min.

HOU. BUF, NO, CHI, NYG, SEA, NYJ, and NE are all teams that have increased their touches per min speed. Focus on the key players. Caution on the other end of this spectrum! TEN, WAS, CLE, PHI, OAK, CIN, and BAL.

This now moves us into the player level and fine tunes our view of the player in team level context.

A fast player on a fast team vs a slow player on a slow team.

The Touches vs Atts number highlights the passing or rushing biased players 

These metrics lead to use in DFS and seasonal teams.

Run/Pass Bias Tables Players Weeks 1 to 7

These tables extend the metrics to assign bias to players based on touches and attempts. Rushing is measure by attempts per minute and pass receptions by a comparison of Att via Touches. I use the DIFF metric name here to represent the pass reception of each player analyzed.

I have then assigned each player a pass and rush level followed by an overall characterization of their Bias. Elite (Best at Both), Run (Run only), and Pass (pass catcher). 

These tables are from the sortable table above but sorted and color-coded for easy viewing. Consider the balanced of your team. In PPR pass catchers have value vs in Non-PPR. Rushers are better than pass-catchers on average in Non-PPR.
