Week 6 College Football Picks Against the Spread

Its Week 6 College Football time and that means its time to pick some games against the spread. While the slate doesn’t feature the huge contests between the CFB elite, it does have a ton of fun and interesting games.

Obviously the game between Texas and OU is always a blast but the rest of the slate should provide a ton of intrigue. Get your popcorn ready and enjoy the slate.

As for my picks, I went 2-1 in my main slate and 2-1 in my bonus picks for a 4-2 week overall.

Let’s keep it rolling and see where you should look for winners this week!

Texas Longhorns +7 vs Oklahoma Sooners

The Red River Shootout, Red River Rivalry or whatever you call it is one of my favorite games every season and ranks very high on my sports trip bucket list. This nuetral site affair offers up a true 50/50 split between Longhorn and Sooner fans. The smells from the Texas State Fair only add to the ambiance.

But you’re not here for ambiance! You’re here for winners!!!

If you want a winner then stand behind Tom Herman this week. Since becoming a head coach first at Houston and then at Texas, Herman has gone 11-1 ATS when his team is an underdog. Texas has won the game on the field the last three times they have been underdogs including a couple weeks ago against TCU .

As good as Oklahoma has been on the offensive side of the ball, the defense has been just as bad. The Longhorns must take advantage of their defense with Colin Johnson and Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Sam Ehlinger must avoid costly turnovers that can provide huge momentum swings in games like this.

Kyler Murray has been incredible this season and is firmly in the Heisman Trophy race. Texas must be stout defensively. Big plays could see this game turn into a blow out.

That said, give me the Longhorns +7. I expect a cover and don’t hate a little sprinkle, sprinkle on the money line.

Pick: Texas +7

Texas A&M Aggies -5.5 vs Kentucky Wildcats

The Kentucky Wildcats are experience their best start to season in a long, long time. The snapped the 31 year losing streak against Florida. Then they backed it up by beating both South Carolina and Mississippi State. This run has vaulted them up to 13th in the country. I have been enjoying riding the Wildcats on their meteoric rise but unfortunately this is week everything comes back to earth.

This line stinks to high heaven. The idea that an undefeated SEC team that is 13th in the country would be a 5.5 point underdog to a 3-2 Texas A&M makes most people scratch their head. This is a somebody knows something game and i’m rolling with the somebodies.

The Aggies failed to cover for the first time last week. That includes covering against Clemson and Alabama.

The Aggie defense is legit and has real NFL type dudes. They will provide a serious test for a Wildcat offense that relies heavily on Benny Snell and Terry Wilson. I expect Kentucky to not find the same success on the ground this week as they have in their past match ups. Wilson will have to win this game with his arm and I don’t see that happening.

I expect Kellen Mond and the offense to rebound after a poor outing against Arkansas a week ago and win by a TD or more.

Pick: Texas A&M -5.5

Mississippi State Bulldogs +3.5 vs Auburn Tigers

Want to talk about a line that makes absolutely no sense? Mississippi State welcomes the Auburn Tigers who are currently the 8th ranked team in the country. The Bulldogs have scored a combined 13 points the past two weeks against Kentucky and Florida. And here we sit with the Tigers as a 3.5 point favorite.

The Tigers have had issues of their own especially on the offensive side of the ball. They aren’t nearly as effective on the ground this season and Jared Stidham hasn’t taken the leap some thought he might.

Maybe it comes with Mississippi State turning to Keytaon Thompson or Nick Fitzgerald finding his old form or things just get weird in Starkvegas but the I think the Bulldogs find a way to cover the field goal plus and I think they have to win the game outright. Sprinkle sprinkle baby!

Pick: Mississippi State +3.5

Bonus Picks: Arizona +2.5, Pitt +3.5, Utah +5
