Welcome to the third week of Eliminator Breakdown. This week’s article comes to you from the beautiful Playa Mujeres in lovely Mexico as I celebrate my honeymoon with my beautiful new wife. Due to this exciting time in my life, this week’s article will be a bit brief, but don’t fret I still have some great recommendations for you below. Read on and good luck!
Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups
Division games just keep on surprising us. My Dolphins looked great against the Patriots in Week One, and then fell apart this past weekend playing against their other rival, the Buffalo Bills. These games just keep you guessing. Do yourself a favor and avoid the below division games:
- Tampa Bay at Atlanta
- San Francisco at Arizona
- Baltimore at Cleveland
- Green Bay at Detroit
- Indianapolis at Jacksonville
- Washington at Philadelphia
Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups
Let’s be honest, the marquee matchups this week aren’t the most exciting. I don’t know what to think about Pittsburgh, Carolina, Chicago or the Jets. If I were picking I would think home field advantage would be a huge decider in both of these games, but can Geno Smith really perform in front of a national audience? Can Cutler? I don’t know about you but I’m not gambling on either this week. Unless you want to take a chance, I would avoid the below games:
- Pittsburgh at Carolina
- Chicago at NY Jets
- Denver at Seattle **this may not be on in prime time, but it should be!
Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage
How about them Brownies! Beating the Saints in front of their home crowd, a team that many picked to be a Super Bowl participant in the pre-season, was very surprising and impressive. Some teams just don’t travel well and others are a different team when the home crowd gets loud. Be aware and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:
- Dallas at St. Louis
- Kansas City at Miami
- Houston at NY Giants
Step 4 – Make your pick!
I might be going crazy picking an 0-2 team for an eliminator challenge, but with a healthy Sean Payton and Drew Brees can New Orleans continue to lose? How about when they are playing a Vikings team most likely missing their best (and possibly only) playmaker. It’s time for the Saints to get their first victory of the season and I’m taking them as my pick of the week:
- New Orleans over Minnesota
Other options I like this week:

- Cincinnati over Tennessee
I really like my second pick of the week in the Cincinnati Bengals. Even without AJ Green they looked very dominant last week and this week they play a Titans offense that struggled against a shaky Dallas defense. I expect Cincinnati to run away with this one.
- New England over Oakland
I also expect the Patriot to improve to 2-1 this week when hosting the Oakland Raiders.
