Last week saw multiple “almosts” on the list as Chargers receiver, Mike Williams, still hasn’t found the end zone and D.K. Metcalf, caught 2 touchdowns but nothing else. The sits were a hit, as the Patriot’s defense continues to dominate whoever they play and Melvin Gordon should have stayed at home. Will this be the week I finally go 5 for 5 on recommendations? Check em out!
Players who will shine
Robby Anderson ([email protected] 1pm est)
I know the Jets have flamed out over the last two weeks, but a trip to South Beach should refuel them. The Dolphins surrendered 2 long tds against Pittsburgh on Monday night and are now without all-pro corner, Xavien Howard. Anderson is primed to explode in a “get right” game for the Jets and Sam Darnold, especially after expressing relief about not being traded. He has seen 6 or more targets while playing over 90% of the offensive snaps over the last three games and will be featured this week against the tanking Dolphins.
Prediction: 5 rec 78 yards 1 td: 16.3 pts
James White ([email protected] SNF 8:20pm est)
He is averaging 6 receptions for just over 50 yards on the season, as Tom Brady’s favorite short yardage target. This week, Mr. White will be plenty busy against a Baltimore defense, fresh off a bye week and who has surrendered the 2nd least rushing yards so far in 2019. White will be featured near the goal line for New England, as they spread Baltimore out instead of trying to move a brick wall. Expect him to find the end zone on top of accumulating his normal ridiculously efficient stat line.
Prediction: 4 car 18 yards, 6 rec 62 yards 1 td: 17 pts
Michael Gallup ([email protected] MNF 8:15pm est)
The second year wide-out had his worst game of the season last week as the Cowboys leaned on Amari Cooper and Ezekiel Elliot, to demolish the Eagles 37-10. He still played 86% of the snaps, and once again posted over 11 yards per reception. This week, the Boyz face a Giants team who just got torched by Detroit and who Michael owned in week 1 with 7 receptions for 158 yards. Another aerial attack against a subpar New York pass defense is on tap for the Cowboys. Ride Michael and Gallup to victory in week 9.
Prediction: 6 rec 83 yards 1 td: 14.3 pts
Ride the Pine
Arizona RB’s ([email protected] TNF 8:20pm est)
What a mess this backfield has become. David Johnson was a preseason favorite of many, including myself to finish close to the top at the position only to see him succumb to injury before Week 7. Chase Edmonds had been seeing increased opportunities prior to Johnson being injured and destroyed the Giants for 126 yards and 3 tds prior to suffering an injury himself. Now, the Cardinals will be turning to a combination of Alfred Morris, Zach Zenner, and newly acquired Kenyan Drake, against the NFC’s most ferocious defense. Drake offers the most upside of the three, but with only 3 days to learn Arizona’s system, he will probably be limited at best. The backfield in the dessert is barren this week and should be avoided.
Prediction: Stay away!
David Montgomery ([email protected] 1pm est)
We were finally treated to the full Monty against LA and we weren’t disappointed. He ran for 135 yards with a score while adding 4 receptions, in what was easily his best performance thus far. The Bears and Montgomery travel to Philadelphia in Week 9, where the Eagles are in must-win mode, while trying to keep pace with Dallas in the NFC East. Philly has excelled against the run this season, only allowing Dallas and Minnesota to rush for more than 100 yards against them. The Eagles will force Chicago to put the game in their QB’s hands by stacking the box and keeping Montgomery bottled up all game.
