In Fantasy Football it is always smart to stay ahead of the moves made by the real football teams. The next man up syndrome of pro football can have a huge impact on the pretend game of Fake Pigskin too.
If you own Denver or Cincinnati receivers the quarterback changes coming soon should concern you. Also players that are traded have an impact on both teams involved. Let’s take a look at how some of the changes announced in real football this week will impact our waiver wire moves.
QB on the Block
Mason Rudolph – 83% Available
If you just lost your quarterback to injury or being benched you could do worse than Mason Rudolph. Interceptions are always a concern with young players at the position but he has lots of good receiving options and a solid rushing game assuming James Conner can play through his injuries.

Mitchell Trubisky – 76% Available
This has been an awful year for the Bears and Trubisky versus expected results. But this is the same quarterback who started last year as a Top 7 fantasy quarterback in the first half of the season last year. He also appears to be firmly entrenched as the starter which we can’t say for a few others.
RB on the Block
Mark Walton – 66% Available
The departure of Kenyan Drake has increased the value of Mark Walton as long as you keep things in perspective that Walton still plays for the woeful Miami Dolphins. But someone has to carry the rock and Walton got 14 touches to only 4 for Kalen Ballage last week in the first game without Drake active.
Tra Carson – 99% Available
The trade rumor gurus had Kenyan Drake going to the Detroit Lions but instead he was dealt to the Arizona Cardinals. Last week it appeared that Ty Johnson would be the chosen one with Kerryon Johnson out but checking the stats from last week I am not sure. Ty received 8 touches to 12 for Tra and 4 for JD McKissic. Maybe Tra is the guy to own?
WR on the Block
Darius Slayton – 96% Available
Slayton is a guy I was grabbing in Dynasty format leagues before the season started because someone needed to emerge as the second option with the Giants with Golden Tate suspended for the first four games. Now Sterling Shepard could be out for a while and Slayton has had 3 solid games in the last 6 efforts.
Mecole Hardman – 67% Available
The speedster from Georgia was an insurance policy just in case Tyreek Hill got suspended. Now the Chiefs have done an excellent job of using both wide receivers to open up the field for each other. Mecole won’t get the high volume you need for sustained value but it only takes one play for him to be an excellent Flex start during Bye weeks.
TE on the Block
Darren Fells – 79% Available
There are quite a few talented young tight ends in the NFL who everyone is eyeing for a streaming tight end play and then there is the revitalized 33-year old Darren Fells. He is not just a touchdown dependent tight end either with 6 or more targets in 2 of the last 3 games.
Ryan Griffin – 99% Available
Griffin is not a sexy pick or even a long term solution at tight end but until Chris Herndon is back to closer to 100% then Griffin might be a temporary fix at the position during Bye weeks.
You never know what players might be available on the waiver wire in your individual league as players have to make a choice of who to cut to pick up a starter at another position during Bye weeks.
It pays to not only go shopping during your league’s waiver wire period but to also go shopping on Wednesday or Thursday after waivers clear. Don’t be afraid to pick up a talented player even if they are on Bye that week!
