Sometimes in Fantasy Football it pays to zag when the rest of the world is zigging. Saquon Barkley is out 4-8 weeks with a high ankle sprain and everyone will be stampeding to the waiver wire to pick up Wayne Gallman.
If you are in a league where you bid every week someone is going to put in a huge bid for Gallman. There is a reason other than Barkley’s immense talent that Gallman never sees the field when Saquon is healthy…Wayne Gallman is a weak replacement.
Follow along for some better picks off the waiver wire this week.

Quarterbacks on the Block
Daniel Jones – 84% Available
One game does not a star make but you had to be impressed with “Danny Dimes” bringing the Giants back without his stud running back and with his only star wide receiver playing hurt. That was the first time since 1949 that the Giants came back to win when down by 18 or more at halftime.
Jacoby Brissett – 81% Available
Don’t be worried about the lower volume from the passing game with Brissett versus Andrew Luck at times last year. The Colts have relied on the running game but as the competition gets tougher their volume of passes will increase and Brissett is already a decent option at quarterback.
Mason Rudolph – 87% Available
If you liked the Steelers offense with Big Ben at the helm there is still lots to like with the new kid at quarterback. Rudolph’s size and pocket presence mean the team doesn’t have to adjust their offense for the new quarterback.
Running Backs on the Block
Darrel Williams – 94% Available
Last week I told you the other D-Will was a good running back to speculate on and in part time duty he performed well. This explosive Chiefs offense will produce a top running back any given week and some of those weeks it will be Darrel.
Alexander Mattison – 80% Available
Unlike Wayne Gallman in New York, if anything happens to Dalvin Cook in Minnesota then Alexander Mattison will be the running back to own. Even without an injury Mattison should get more work to keep Cook fresh and in mop up duty when they win games going away.
Rex Burkhead – 76% Available
Trying to figure out decisions by Belichick at running back have given more than one fantasy football player a trip to the loonie bin! Sony Michel is underwhelming with a putrid yards after contact. Rex Burkhead might be the other running back to get action along with James White if Sony struggles.
Wide Receivers on the Block
Deebo Samuel – 61% Available
Why this young wide receiver is still available in so many leagues is a mystery to me. Dante Pettis is a very good player but has been relegated to the bench by Deebo. This is the 49ers wide receiver to own long term.
Diontae Johnson – 96% Available
When I am drafting I often target a position on a team rather than an individual player. This season the 2nd wide receiver with the Steelers was an unknown. James Washington was the sexy pick but I didn’t believe in him so I took shares of Moncrief and Dionte Johnson and with Moncrief failing it is Dionte time in Pittsburgh.
Golden Tate (63% Available)
Currently on suspension it won’t be long now until Golden Tate is active and now he has a quarterback with a strong arm. Tate will compete with Sterling Shephard for the top receiver of Danny Dimes and it’s the right time to grab him before someone else beats you to him.
Phillip Dorsett – 68% Available
The departure of Antonio Brown has opened up the opportunity for Dorsett again. The Patriots passing game can support more than one or two receivers without a solid tight end and both Josh Gordon and Julian Edelman are likely to miss some time moving forward.
Tight Ends on the Block
Noah Fant – 89% Available
Rookie tight ends have a very real boom and bust cycle to them but if you missed out on my Will Dissly pick last week then you have to take chances. Instead of just an ordinary touchdown dependent tight end why not take a shot at a talented youngster instead?
Vernon Davis – 80% Available
The old man has been filling in for Jordan Reed who is in the concussion protocol. It is not looking great for Reed which means that the old man Vernon Davis will continue five targets a week.
If you can’t get guys like DJ Chark and Will Dissly then the guys above are worth a shot. Check previous weeks waiver wire articles for more players that might still be available in your league.
Each week it pays to take a look at the waiver wire before and after waivers clear for the week. Fantasy players often have to drop a talented player during the Bye weeks since they are too stubborn to let a solid Team Defense or Kicker go. While the smart players will only keep one defense and one kicker you would be shocked on some of the “Slow Start” types that get dropped in some leagues. Good luck with your waiver wire picks this week.
