5 Reasons To Watch UFC Fight Night 37

by Carlos Ortiz On March 9, 2014

Brand New Superstar; Mr. Gustafsson- That’s right, you read correctly, and it’s not an overstatement. I said brand new superstar Alexander “The Mauler” Gustaffson. This will be Alexander’s first appearance since losing a razor thin decision to current Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones this past September. The five round title fight became an instant classic, and was voted “Fight Of The Year” by basically every major MMA website. Despite losing it did prove that the quiet 26 year

What We Learned from UFC 170 Ronda Rousey is as good as advertised- A large contingent of MMA fans out there weren’t really drinking the Ronda Rousey Kool Aid yet. “All she has is an arm bar,” they’d say. “She’s a one trick pony, and it’s only a matter of time before she’s exposed.” Well, Ronda showed us in the main event of UFC 170 she’s got some other tools as well. She’s still getting better at other

UFC 170 Notes: Enough About Cyborg

On Saturday night, “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey attempts her third consecutive 135-pound title defense when she squares off with the quiet, but unquestionably dangerous, Sara McMann in the UFC 170 main event. If you are listening to the media, fighters, and the fan message boards, however, the clamor isn’t revolving around these elite ladies and their prizefight. Instead, everyone seems to be focusing on when Rousey will fight former Strikeforce 145-pound champion, Cris “Cyborg” Justino. It’s as if Justino is

by Carlos Ortiz On February 20, 2014

Since news broke this past Friday that top ranked lightweight contender Gilbert Melendez has agreed to a deal to join Bellator MMA, the mixed martial arts community hasn’t stopped buzzing. Gilbert failed to come to an agreement with the UFC brass, and Bjorn Rebney (Bellator Chairman) swooped in and capitalized, potentially bringing in a world ranked talent to his already interesting lightweight division. While the UFC still has the right to match the deal and keep “El

Maclin Returns to the Eagles

WR Jeremy Maclin, coming off an ACL tear that caused him to miss all of 2013, has signed a prove-it deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for one year at $5.5 million. While this is great for the Philly offense as a whole, it doesn’t bode well for Maclin’s fantasy value in 2014. He will join a crowded receiving corp featuring DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper. Cooper will likely be the WR2, and the offense will still be centered around LeSean McCoy. Maclin will have some great games next year, but will likely struggle to provide consistent production.

Dennis Pitta Resigns With the Baltimore Ravens

TE Dennis Pitta signed a 5-year, $32 million dollar deal, putting an end to what could have been a long negotation. The absence of Pitta due to injury was one of the main reasons why the Ravens’ offense sputtered last year. Entering 2014 he’s got a ton of upside, as he’ll be QB Joe Flacco’s safety blanket. While he has the size of a TE, he plays the majority of his snaps in the slot. This creates matchup problems for smaller DBs who try to cover him. Look for Pitta to be one of the trendier sleeper TEs this offseason.

Break Out Candidate: Tyler Eifert

Tyler Eifert will become a dynamic weapon from the tight end position in his second season in Cincinnati. He has the athletic ability and size to dominate as a pass catcher. The Bengals could utilize him in the slot even with Jermaine Gresham lined up in the typical tight end position. The Bengals need an option to go opposite AJ Green and Eifert will be that guy. Eifert’s improved blocking ability should help be on the field for more snaps and have the chance to make more plays.

Nelson Cruz

As the regular season draws closer, Cruz seemed ready to bring down his asking price. Cruz could be a great fit in the middle of Baltimore’s lineup. If he pans out it could be one of the best lineups in the AL. Cruz is looking at the majority of his at-bats as the DH. Cruz could get an occasional start in the OF, whenever Markakis or David Lough need a day off. Source: Enrique Rojas on Twitter

Eto’o was forced into action today after being set to start the match against Tottenham on the bench. After Fernando Torres left warm ups with an apparent groin injury, Eto’o was called upon for the start in his place and took full advantage. The two sides went scoreless until the 56th minute until Eto’o intercepted an errant pass from Spurs defender Jan Vertenghen to net the first goal of the match.
