Week 8 Waiver Wire Must Adds

The NFL season is rapidly approaching the midway point whether we are ready for it or not. The Week 8 Waiver Wire has interesting options at all positions if you are looking plug some holes with bye weeks, injuries and ineffectiveness.

If you are looking for QB help this week or beyond, add Derek Carr or Jimmy Garoppolo. Jimmy G has the Seahawks this week who continued to get torched. If you want an option for the stretch run, Carr is a better option with a very appealing schedule down the stretch.

As for the other position? Below are the names I am targeting this week!

Brandon Aiyuk | WR | San Francisco 49ers

Rostered in 49% of Yahoo Leagues

If you are looking for help at WR this week, the 49ers Brandon Aiyuk is worthy of your attention. Against the Patriots he caught 6 of his 7 targets for 115 yards. This was his 4th game in 6 contests where he saw 5 plus targets.

The 49ers face a Seahawks defense that is allowing the most fantasy points to opposing WRs. San Francisco will be without Deebo Samuel, who is dealing with a hamstring injury for this game.

Aiyuk has the ability to do much of what makes Samuel so interesting from a fantasy perspective. Look for Aiyuk to produce this week!

Rashard Higgins | WR | Cleveland Browns

Rostered in 2% of Yahoo Leagues

With Odell Beckham Jr missing the rest of the season with a torn ACL, the door is open for someone to emerge at WR. Rashard Higgins made a great impression to potentially be that player.

On Sunday, he caught all 6 of his targets for 110 yards. Beyond that, per Adam Levitan, Higgins ran the most routes of any WR after Beckham left the game. Before his heavy usage this week, Higgins had scored TDs in back to back games despite seeing 5 total targets.

Higgins is a player that has popped from time to time over the last two seasons. He is absolutely someone who can produce and should see plenty of volume. The Browns schedule also sets up very, very nicely down the stretch for the passing game to be productive.

Add Higgins this week. If you miss out on him, Donovan Peoples-Jones is not a bad pivot. He flashed on Sunday including catching the game winning TD. The rookie has been slow to get going but he may be ready to make impact down the stretch.

Other WRs to Target: Jalen Reagor, Sterling Shepard, Denzel Mims

Tevin Coleman | RB | San Francisco 49ers

Rostered in 27% of Yahoo Leagues

The 49ers RB Tevin Coleman has an outside shot at returning this week per the team. Assuming he doesn’t see the field this week, he is still worth a stash with Raheem Mostert is on the IR for at least 2 more weeks and Jeff Wilson Jr going on IR.

This is not to say that Jerick McKinnon isn’t worth holding onto, especially in any league that rewards catches. Kyle Shanahan said the plan was to rest McKinnon all along. Something that would have been great for fantasy managers to know ahead of time but unfortunately NFL teams own us nothing.

This team has shown the ability to scheme multiple backs into productivity. Add Coleman and hold McKinnon this week.

Carlos Hyde | RB | Seattle Seahawks

Rostered in 12% of Yahoo Leagues

The Seahawks will be without Chris Carson in the short term which opens the door for Carlos Hyde to become fantasy relevant once again. Hyde should see work this week in a pseudo revenge game against the team that drafted him.

While Hyde should see the work this week, I am not sure I love him. The 49ers defense has been solid all season long allowing the fewest fantasy points to opposing RBs. In fact, outside of Darrell Henderson gaining 88 yards in Week 6, no RB has eclipsed 63 yards on the ground. They have also only allowed 1 TD to position.

If you are in a league that gives you points per carry or are desperate then by all means go nuts but I would be looking for other options.

Beyond this week, I am not sure how much volume Hyde may see. We were in this exact same spot a few weeks ago when Carson was supposed to miss time. By Sunday, Carson was active and it was Hyde who missed time. Don’t be shocked if Carson is back as soon as next week.

LaMical Perine | RB | New York Jets

Rostered in 16% of Yahoo Leagues

While you will likely never feel great about using a running back on this anemic offense, LaMical Perine is worth a look especially with the amount of injuries to the running back position.

On Sunday, he saw 11 carries gaining 39 yards and scoring a TD. Perine was an interesting product coming out of Florida. He has 3 down back abilities and can be a usable option assuming he sees any volume. If you have the flexibility to add him and be patient look at Perine this week.

Harrison Bryant | TE | Cleveland Browns

Rostered in 1% of Yahoo Leagues

Looking for a short term option at TE? Look no further than the Browns Harrison Bryant. On 28 Baker Mayfield dropbacks against the Bengals, Bryant ran 18 routes to just 13 from Njoku.

This week the Browns face the Las Vegas Raiders. While on the surface, the Raiders defense seems to hold up well to opposing TEs, their last two games tell a different story. Travis Kelce put up 108 yards and a TD. Rob Gronkowski kept it going this week producing 62 yards and a TD on his 5 catches.

While I am not saying Bryant will do what Kelce did or even Gronk did, it seems reasonable to think a TE that clearly was involved in the offense can have a productive week and have a good shot at scoring a TD.

Richard Rodgers | TE | Philadelphia Eagles

Rostered in 9% of Yahoo Leagues

Carson Wentz and fantasy relevance are synonymous. A lack of both Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert didn’t slow the Eagles QB from pelting his TE. Rodgers had 8 targets catching 6 for 85 yards.

It appears the Eagles will be without the services of both Goedert and Ertz for the short term. Rodgers can be some fantasy managers can turn to. Volume is key especially at a position that has been frustrating to find reliable options.

With the Eagles facing the Dallas Cowboys this week, I am looking to find ways to get Eagles in my lineups this week.

Other TEs to Target: Gerald Everett, Cole Kmet, Trey Burton

Good luck in Week 8 and beyond!
