Switching to Benny and the Jet Gear for the Playoffs

Congratulations for making the Fantasy Football playoffs again this year! Now that you are in the Big Dance in your league you need to start transitioning your roster if you haven’t already. Bye weeks are gone and instead of investing in that marginal starter on a team with a lousy offense it’s time to make sure your strong offensive players are backed up for the playoffs.

I would rather have a player from a top offense in a lousy match up than a player from a lousy team in a good match up. This doesn’t mean buying backups for your streaming or match up starters just your regular starters. It even makes sense to double handcuff your studs in some situations.

QB to Add

Ryan Tannehill (61% Available)

If you have an extra roster spot you seldom use as a starter it might make sense to play keep a way with Tannehill against your playoff opponent who might be down a quarterback. Since taking over as the starter he has posted 15 or more Fantasy Points in 5 of his 6 starts.

Jacoby Brissett (62% Available)

There is no doubt that the Colts are a run first offense and that Brissett is a low volume matchup type quarterback in Fantasy Football. He scored 15 or more points in only 6 of his 10 starts this season. His playoff starts are indoors or down south and in the month of December I like to have a good weather quarterback on my bench just in case.

Gardner Minshew (91% Available)

This is a must add if your league as a “Best Mustache” point bonus but even in a standard league Minshew is a solid match up play going forward. Six of his nine starts resulted in 15 or more fantasy points. He faces the Chargers, Raiders and Falcons in the fantasy playoff weeks.

RB to Add

Benny Snell Jr (66% Available)

While they call the Holiday season the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year” in Fantasy Football it is the most terrifying time of the year for running backs. Snell has back to back 10 plus fantasy point games while playing less than 50% of the snaps. The trust in the youngster will increase and the guys ahead of him on the depth chart are hurting.

Alexander Mattison (68% Available)

This pick was made BEFORE Dalvin Cook went down with an injury during Monday Night Football. Even if Cook doesn’t miss a start, Mattison is a must own for Cook owners and a great keep a way grab for non Cook owners who have to face him in the playoffs. Six of his twelve games resulted in 5 fantasy points or more in PPR formats while coming off the bench.

Raheem Mostert (85% Available)

The backfield of the San Francisco 49ers is chaos but IF injuries start whittling down the possible choices on any given day that will make Mostert a must own and a must start. Tevin Coleman seemed to lose the confidence of the coaches in recent weeks making Mostert a player you need to own for the fantasy playoffs.

Darwin Thompson (95% Available)

Since the Kansas City Chiefs seem to be running out of healthy D-Wills that opens the door for one of the sleeper rookie picks to finally pay off. The Chiefs’ offense produces great numbers for their running backs especially in the PPR format and the only healthy back other than Darwin is Shady McCoy.

WR to Add

James Washington (77% Available)

Sure it is risky business having a Duck at quarterback for your fantasy wide receivers but right now Washington is the only healthy starter available who knows how to get open. Four of his last five starts have produced 10 or more fantasy points in the PPR format with 3 of those games over 15 points.

Anthony Miller (86% Available)

This is a boom/bust type pick but with Taylor Gabriel out of the lineup the production of Anthony Miller has gotten more predictable. Miller has seen 33 targets over the past 3 weeks cashing in with 10 or more Fantasy points in each game. This is despite not reaching the end zone and last year on 21% of his catches.

Darius Slayton (73% Available)

Injuries have opened the door for more playing time for Slayton and he has performed well enough to keep his opportunities coming. He has played 65% or more of the offensive snaps in eight games this year and has produced 10 or more fantasy points 5 times including the last 3 as injuries have hit the Giants receivers even harder.

TE to Add

Mike Gesicki (81% Available)

Since Ryan Fitzpatrick took over as the starter with the Dolphins Gesicki has scored 5 or more 6 times in 8 starts. Three of those games yielded 10 or more points. His match ups during the fantasy playoffs are very good too.

Conclusion

Shop your waiver wire just in case a few other possible starters are available in your league as always a player has to be available in 60% or more of the leagues to make my lists. Guys like Derius Guice and Rashad Penny are still available in about 40% of leagues and are solid plays the rest of the season. During the playoffs it makes more sense to backup your regular starters at running back with their backup to keep that strong offense you love on the field. Good luck in your Fantasy Playoffs!
