NFL Eliminator Challenge: Week 13

Welcome to Week Thirteen of season seven of our NFL Eliminator Challenge series!  While last week’s games were a little too close for comfort, we went 3-0 once again continuing the strong second half streak we have going for us.  Let’s finish this season off on a high note!  Read on and feel free to comment at the bottom or hit me up on twitter!

Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups

While we didn’t have a ton of division upsets last week, we did have some thrilling games.  Indy came within three points of upsetting Houston.  Cincinnati, similarly, was one score away from upsetting Pittsburgh.  Then in New Orleans, we had one of the best games of the season, with a wild pass interference challenge near the end.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, do yourself a favor and avoid the below division games:

  • Chicago at Detroit
  • New Orleans at Atlanta
  • Tennessee at Indianapolis
  • Oakland at Kansas City
  • Los Angeles Rams at Arizona
  • Los Angeles Chargers at Denver
  • Cleveland at Pittsburgh

Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups

Whelp, so much for thrilling prime time games.  Two of the three matchups last week were absolute blow outs and major disappointments.  Hopefully, the Thanksgiving slate this week can help us rebound.  Unless you want to take a chance, I would avoid the below marquee games:

  • Chicago at Detroit
  • Buffalo at Dallas
  • New Orleans at Atlanta
  • New England at Houston
  • Minnesota at Seattle

Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage

Home teams rebounded a bit last week.  While Cincinnati came up short on their upset bid, the Jets, the Redskins and the Ravens all won upsets in front of their home crowds.  In total, ten of the fourteen games last week were won by the home team.  Be aware and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:

  • Chicago at Detroit
  • New Orleans at Atlanta
  • Philadelphia at Miami
  • New York Jets at Cincinnati
  • Green Bay at New York Giants
  • Los Angeles Rams at Arizona
  • Los Angeles Chargers at Denver
  • New England at Houston

Step 4 – Make your pick!

My pick of the week is:

  • Carolina Panthers over the Washington Redskins

Last week the Redskins pulled off their second victory of the year in a nail bitter, meanwhile, the Panthers lost a heartbreaker to the Saints.  The reality is, this Panthers team is much more talented than this Redskins team, and this should be a blowout in Carolina over the weekend.

Other options I like this week:

  • Philadelphia Eagles over the Miami Dolphins

While this game is in Miami, we have establish each week we should have one pick against the Dolphins or Bengals, and I’d rather place my money on the Eagles over the Jets.

  • Green Bay Packers over the New York Giants

Another away team, but the Packers just got embarrassed and Aaron Rodgers is too good a player to lose after what happened to them last week.  Expect them to beat up on an outmatched Giants squad.

Overall Record = 29-7
