NFL Eliminator Challenge: Week 12

Welcome to Week Twelve of season seven of our NFL Eliminator Challenge series!  Last week we got back to 3-0 and continued our strong second half season push.  Hopefully this week we can hit the 3-0 mark for the second week in a row!  Read on and feel free to comment at the bottom or hit me up on twitter!

Step 1 – Avoid Division Matchups

While we didn’t have a ton of division upsets last week, we did have an all-out brawl in Cleveland as well as the Arizona Cardinals gave the 49ers a run for their money until late in the game.  For what it’s worth, we did get one upset, as the Falcons completely shut down the Panthers, in Carolina.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, do yourself a favor and avoid the below division games:

  • Indianapolis at Houston
  • Tampa Bay at Atlanta
  • Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
  • Carolina at New Orleans
  • Jacksonville at Tennessee

Step 2 – Avoid Marquee Matchups

Another week in the books, another week of some entertaining prime time games.  While the Cleveland game wasn’t entertaining due to the score, the Rams game was only a three-point difference until late in the fourth quarter and the Chargers only lost by seven, when all was said and done.  Unless you want to take a chance, I would avoid the below marquee games:

  • Indianapolis at Houston
  • Green Bay at San Francisco
  • Baltimore at Los Angeles Rams

Step 3 – Avoid Picking Against Home Field Advantage

After the amazing performance in Week Ten by home teams, Week Eleven shifted back to normal, as we didn’t see any major upsets.  However, don’t let one off-week let you ignore the history behind home field advantage.  Be aware and avoid the below games where the favorite is the away team:

  • Pittsburgh at Cincinnati
  • Oakland at New York Jets
  • Detroit at Washington
  • Baltimore at Los Angeles Rams

Step 4 – Make your pick!

My pick of the week is:

  • Cleveland Browns over the Miami Dolphins

Time to go back to picking against Miami now that their win streak is over.  The Dolphins fell back to Earth against the Bills at home last week, and the Browns got some fire lit under them on Thursday against their rival the Steelers.  I expect a fired-up Browns defense this week to take advantage of a very suspect Dolphins offensive line.  Expect a blowout in this one.

Other options I like this week:

  • Chicago Bears over the New York Giants

This is me putting everything on the Bears’ defense shutting down a rookie QB for the Giants.  This should be a very low scoring game, but I think the Bears can kick a couple field goals and win this one.

  • New Orleans Saints over the Carolina Panthers

Here is our weekly rule breaker.  The Saints are back on top after a wake-up call two weeks ago and the Panthers couldn’t look any worse last week.  With this taking place in New Orleans, I’m expecting another blowout.

Overall Record = 26-7
