Hyde started two games for the Jags last year, but is more than clearly the backup going into next season. This will be the fifth team for the sixth-year running back.
Hyde doesn’t threaten Williams’ value much in the high-powered offense. His most productive receiving season saw him catch 59 passes for 350 yards in San Francisco.
The place Hyde will make his biggest impact will be stealing touches at the goal line. If Williams were to miss considerable time, Hyde could step in a as a high-end RB2 as Kansas City running backs have naturally been productive.
The Chiefs could bring someone in late in the draft, but with Williams, Hyde, and Darrell Williams, it would be little more than a camp body.
Williams is currently going in the fourth round of drafts on MFL, the 22nd running back off the board. Williams could fall a few spots in ADP behind the likes of Tarik Cohen, Devontae Freeman and Chris Carson, in mocks. Even with Hyde, Williams could get enough touches to stay in the mid-range RB2 conversation.
The Chiefs and Andy Reid, have largely leaned on one back for some time.
The main concern with Williams is his career numbers. he is a career third-down back who has never had more than 74 touches in a regular season.
The Chiefs’ explosiveness on offense will hide inefficiencies in both runners’ game, but may lead to a timeshare.
If the offseason starts trending in favor of Hyde, he would take over Williams spot in the Top 30 at the position.
