Carolina Panthers – 7 round mock draft

Carolina Panthers

2018 record: 7-9 (3rd NFC South)

Biggest needs: DE, OL, S

R1: JAWAAN TAYLOR, OT (Florida)

Taylor could immediately fill a void on the Panthers O-line. The 6’5″, 328 lbs Tackle made the SEC All-Academic roll in 2018 and plays with a nasty streak. Don’t be surprised if he’s the first OT taken off the board.

R2: JOE JACKSON, DE (MIAMI)

6’5″, 258lbs, Jr out of Miami. Finished the season finished 2018 with nine sacks, 47 tackles, 14.5 TFL, nine, two forced fumbles and one interception.

R3: JUAN THORNHILL, S (VIRGINIA)

6’1″, 195lbs. With Mike Adams and Eric Reid possibly out the door it is time to inject some youth at safety. I’m not sure Thornhill will still be on the board at this spot but if he is, the Panthers would be crazy to let him slip by. Thornhill can do it all. He saw action at cornerback, deep safety, and lining up in the box.

R4: MICHAEL DEITER, OL (WISCONSIN)

6’4″, 230lbs, guard. He shuffled around the O-line but will likely stick at guard in the NFL.

R5: ELIJAH HOLYFIELD, RB (GEORGIA)

Holyfield is a throwback to an era where running backs lowered their shoulder and finished runs with authority. At 5’10” 215lbs Holyfield isn’t afraid of contact and would make a great compliment to Christian McCaffrey who was rarely used between the tackles. Holyfield may fall to the 5th or 6th round as I don’t expect him to show impressive speed at the combine and for a possible red flag with his arrest in 2017 (marijuana).

R6: ZACH GENTRY, TE (MICHIGAN)

Gentry has the size (6’8″, 250lbs) and catch radius to be a NFL tight end. I don’t think he was ever fully utilized in Michigan’s offense but with some grooming it is *possible* that we may be looking at Greg Olsen’s replacement. Needs to improve: blocking, drops, route running.

R7: (no picks)
