MLB DFS: Targets for 4/21

Our weekend starts with a 15-game slate for MLB DFS. Although there’s a full schedule of games, the matchups make it difficult to pinpoint plays at first so I’ll be summarizing a few games to think about.

St. Louis Cardinals @ Milwaukee Brewers

Moneyline: -115 (STL)

Over/Under: 8 1/2

Eric Thames [FanDuel: $3,800 (1B)/DraftKings: $3,900 (1B)] has been crushing, so it’s hard to fade him. His price is STILL under $4,000 on each site and that feels criminal. There are Thames believers and non-believers, but one thing’s for sure – play him while he’s hot! Adam Wainwright [FanDuel: $7,900/DraftKings: $6,000] is on the hill tonight for the Cardinals, and he’s having another dismal start to the season. Many of Wainwright’s splits are pretty extreme, in favor of LHHs. One thing he hadn’t done much of is give up homeruns, but he’s doing it now and more to LHHs. That puts Travis Shaw [FanDuel: $3,400 (3B)/DraftKings: $3,600 (3B)] in play, and Ryan Braun [FanDuel: $4,500 (OF)/DraftKings: $5,000 (OF)] as well. Don’t get stuck on needing the platoon for every hitting slot. A hitter like Braun capitalize on Wainwright’s mistakes, just as a much as a hot-hitting lefty can.

Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox

Moneyline: -152 (CLE)

Over/Under: 7

This game is interesting because Corey Kluber [FanDuel: $9,900/DraftKings: $10,800] hasn’t been off to the best start, but neither has his pitching opponent, Jose Quintana [FanDuel: $8,200/DraftKings: $7,700]. This game has one of the lowest game totals of the night and it wouldn’t be the worst idea to have exposure to them in GPPs. Jason Kipnis [FanDuel: $3,400 (2B)/DraftKings: $4,000 (2B)]  could be activated today, and I like Quintana better if he does start. Like most LHPs, he has better numbers against LHBs and could be rusty in his first game back. I don’t like hitters from either of these teams so their pitchers are ones to possibly target.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

Moneyline: -144 (LAA)

Over/Under: 7 1/2

This is my hot take game of the night. In a game where Mat Latos [FanDuel: $5,900/DraftKings: $5,500] and Alex Meyer [FanDuel: $6,000/DraftKings: $4,700] are taking the mound for their respective teams, I would’ve expected the game total to be higher. I don’t know anything about Meyer, except that he’s 6’9″ and 225 lbs. according to his profile. It looks like this is his first major league start, but he did have two appearances with the Twins back in 2015. As we’ve seen already, pitchers making their major league debuts do shine. We’ve seen Latos have less than promising moments, but you could throw either of them in a lineup just in case they defy the odds. If I’m choosing hitters in this game, I’m leaning towards the Angels. As usual, Mike Trout [FanDuel: $4,900 (OF)/DraftKings: $5,300 (OF)] can be slotted in, along with Kole Calhoun [(FanDuel: $2,600 (OF)/DraftKings: $3,700 (OF)], and Yunel Escobar [FanDuel: $2,900 (3B)/DraftKings: $3,200 (3B)].

Thank you for reading, and good luck with your picks!
