Need A Plan B For Shane Vereen?

Gotta love it.

New England Patriots RB Shane Vereen did not practice Friday, making people run to waiver wires in hope of a replacement. If you’re league is like mine, there is not much.

But the good news for you is I have THREE RBs who are less than THREE PERCENT owned in leagues in case of a Vereen scratch.

Roy Helu Jr., RB, Washington Redskins (2.6% owned)

I’m a HUGE Roy Helu Jr. fan. In fact, I even own him now! Not only would he replace Alfred Morris if he got hurt, he’d be a stud RB1. But, right now he’s still behind Alfred Morris and is used in mostly passing situations.

This week will likely feature Colt McCoy. Sure he had a fluke 70-yard TD to Pierre Garcon, but I expect a plethora of dump offs to help get Colt back in the game. Remember, it has been a while since the guy has started an NFL game.

Over the course of this season, Roy Helu is averaging 3.2 targets per game, 2.8 receptions, 35.5 receiving yards and 19 rushing yards per game. He’s only found pay dirt once this season and it came in Week 3 at Philadelphia on a 1 yard scamper.

He should see some action this week.

Projections: 20 rushing yards, 5 receptions, 55 receiving yards, 1 TD. 13.5 fantasy points in standard scoring.

Travaris Cadet, RB, New Orleans Saints (0.4% owned)

0.4%? You guys sleepin’? Pick up Cadet!

With Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson sidelined, that leaves Mark Ingram, Travaris Cadet and potentially a call-up of Edwin Baker from the practice squad.

Now, Mark Ingram is a between-the-tackles runner. He is not a pass catcher. That would be Cadet.

Last week he was featured a good amount getting nine targets, hauling in six of them for 51 yards. That’s good for 8.1 fantasy points (if you do .5 PPR).

Now, I’d only recommend Cadet if you are in PPR. His value is very limited as he doesn’t carry the ball often. In fact, he had zero carries last week.

Any game for the Saints is like the over/under is like a college game, start Cadet with confidence if Vereen is hurt and you are in a PPR league.

Projections: 7 receptions, 80 yards, 10 rushing yards. 12.5 fantasy points in PPR.

Brandon Bolden, RB, New England Patriots (0.7% owned)

What better option to replace a New England RB with another New England RB?!

With Ridley done for a while, a potential Vereen scratch, that leaves Bolden and Jonas Gray.

Now, who knows. Belichick could sign Shaun Alexander Sunday morning and he could suit up. But this a complete dart pick.

I have no idea who the Patriots will run, but I’m more confident in Bolden as he has a bit more experience and is a little more familiar with the playbook than Gray, presumably.

I’d definitely start Helu or Cadet over Bolden, but if you are REALLY, REALLY desperate or in a league with me where I own both Cadet and Helu (and am a Vereen owner), give Bolden a shot.

Projections: 75 rushing yards
