Another weekend goes by in the English Premier League, and it was one full of intrigue and incident. Arsenal fluffed their lines at Stoke, Alan Pardew threw his weight around in Newcastle’s technical area, and an unlikely hat trick hero helped maintain Chelsea’s grip on the top spot. What does this mean for Fantasy managers though? In the first of a regular column here on the Fake EPL, we’re going to look behind the score

One of the hottest names on the lips of Premier League pundits over the past month or so has without a doubt been Eden Hazard. The Chelsea winger has been in top form of late, and has been a chief reason as to why the Blue’s have surged to the top of the league table. But while his current form has undoubtedly contributed to him being the talk of the town, it’s the comments from his manager José

Don’t look now friends, but there are only 11 games (for most teams) left in the Premier League this season. We’ve seen not only one of the most enthralling title races in recent memory this season, but arguably an even more exciting battle to see who can stay out of the dreaded bottom three places and avoid relegation. We have seen players emerge from nowhere to look like world beaters, we have seen players take

It’s waking up at 5:30 in the morning on a Saturday to catch the first match of the weekend. It’s calling in sick so you can catch a mid week fixture live instead of DVR’ing it. It’s staying off social media so as to not see the outcome of a match (not easy to do). It’s red vs. blue. It’s David vs. Goliath. It’s the bright colors of player’s boots. It’s a 60 yard lofted

| Maclin Returns to the Eagles |
WR Jeremy Maclin, coming off an ACL tear that caused him to miss all of 2013, has signed a prove-it deal with the Philadelphia Eagles for one year at $5.5 million. While this is great for the Philly offense as a whole, it doesn’t bode well for Maclin’s fantasy value in 2014. He will join a crowded receiving corp featuring DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper. Cooper will likely be the WR2, and the offense will still be centered around LeSean McCoy. Maclin will have some great games next year, but will likely struggle to provide consistent production.

| Dennis Pitta Resigns With the Baltimore Ravens |
TE Dennis Pitta signed a 5-year, $32 million dollar deal, putting an end to what could have been a long negotation. The absence of Pitta due to injury was one of the main reasons why the Ravens’ offense sputtered last year. Entering 2014 he’s got a ton of upside, as he’ll be QB Joe Flacco’s safety blanket. While he has the size of a TE, he plays the majority of his snaps in the slot. This creates matchup problems for smaller DBs who try to cover him. Look for Pitta to be one of the trendier sleeper TEs this offseason.

| Break Out Candidate: Tyler Eifert |
Tyler Eifert will become a dynamic weapon from the tight end position in his second season in Cincinnati. He has the athletic ability and size to dominate as a pass catcher. The Bengals could utilize him in the slot even with Jermaine Gresham lined up in the typical tight end position. The Bengals need an option to go opposite AJ Green and Eifert will be that guy. Eifert’s improved blocking ability should help be on the field for more snaps and have the chance to make more plays.

| Nelson Cruz |
As the regular season draws closer, Cruz seemed ready to bring down his asking price. Cruz could be a great fit in the middle of Baltimore’s lineup. If he pans out it could be one of the best lineups in the AL. Cruz is looking at the majority of his at-bats as the DH. Cruz could get an occasional start in the OF, whenever Markakis or David Lough need a day off. Source: Enrique Rojas on Twitter

| Ervin Santana |
There was some speculation that the Rockies “checked in” on Santana, on Monday. This speculation was due to the Rockies shutting down Chacin. However according to Thomas Harding of MLB.com “The hope is Chacin’s right shoulder-biceps issue is not serious enough for the Rockies to need to make a signing. The official said the club reached out to Santana early in the free-agency process, but it backed away and does not have renewed interest for several reasons.” So for now, the Rockies seemed content with their current pitching staff. | Emmanuel Adebayor, Tottenham – Forward |
Adebayor continued to produce with another assist in Tottenham’s match at White Hart Lane against Cardiff City. The assist today gives him a total of eight goals and three assists during the new club manager Tim Sherwood’s tenure. With a limited slate of fixtures in Matchweek 29, Adebayor could make for a nice play given his recent form despite a tough match up at Chelsea who currently hold the top spot in the table. | Christian Benteke, Aston Villa – Forward |
Benteke found himself back on the score sheet at home against Norwich City, converting on two of his three attempts on goal. His two goals, including a remarkable chest to over the head volley, helped his club overcome an early 0-1 deficit to the visitors en-route to a comfortable 4-1 finish. Only two minutes later, Benteke earned his second which would give his club the lead for good, fighting off his marker on a well placed corner service from Ashley Westwood to firmly head the ball into the back of the net.

| Luis Suarez, Liverpool – Forward |
Making his 100th EPL appearance, Suarez ended a so-called goal scoring drought with Liverpool’s first goal of the match at Southampton. Despite being only his first goal in his last five matches, Suarez has steadily contributed with four assists, including one today, on his way to a league leading total of 10. With Liverpool’s participation in the FA cup and a limited slate of league-wide fixtures in Matchweek 29, his production will be hard to replace.
